avy Ultramodern

Ultramodern is sort of alone in a sense, at least how it relates to the other work in my portfolio. When I created this wallpaper I was really experimenting with a lot of different styles and a lot of different programs, Ultramodern is the result of one of those experimentation session. This wallpaper was created in Bryce 5, a lesser known and less powerful 3D modeling software. The reason I liked Bryce is because it had some really nice textures and tools to apply said textures. This is basically a bunch of oval rings with glass like textures bunched and then a zoom out in perspective. The result was something that reminding me of the tubes you see in sci-fi movies, so that’s where the name comes from.

avy Recollection

The story for Recollection goes something like this… One day I was looking through my wallpapers and realized that many times I liked to use the same form, as in many of my wallpapers share a similar placement of items. Upon noticing this I just on a whim opened up Adobe Photoshop and started messing around, taking fully completed wallpapers and layering them on top of one another with various layer effects to create some sort of merging. I ended up going through three versions of this before I came to what I felt was probably the best. From there I added a little more in the way of enhancing effects and some hue adjustments and ended up with this. This wallpaper is a re-collection of Lifeless + The Depths + Blood Splatters Pink. I have two earlier versions of this I will upload at a later date.

avy Turpentine Kisses

Turpentine Kisses is kind of a intermediate submission for me. When I created it I didn’t spend a lot of time working on it, because the vision itself is pretty simple and is suppose to be. The render was from an older set I had created in Cinema4d, from the same batch as Blood Splatters Pink among others (I used this exact render in two separate wallpapers as well which I will upload later). The name comes from a Smashing Pumpkins demo tape which I’m fond of and sorta shares the same serene mood that I wanted to present here. Aside from the render all the work was done in Adobe Photoshop 7, the little work that there was that is. Mainly I applied several different blurring and smudging techniques along with an adjustment to the levels so that I could get those dark areas. Then there were several layer overlays with different adjustment effects to create the brighter sharper feel. There was also some light brushing on top of all that for a cloud like effect. In the end I’m very fond of this one just because it captures how I was feeling the day I made it, memories and such.

avy Angel Wings

This is a really early submission of mine, at least early in terms of when I started to really form my own style and started experiment with techniques that I would use even to this day. Angel Wings came out of the same time period and development sessions as the wallpaper Lifeless and is pretty much the same exact style, just on a smaller canvas. In fact this was the first thing I did in this style, it would actually lead to me making Lifeless. Angel Wings was created entirely in Photoshop 7, I used a technique where I would use the pen tool to draw out the basic forms I wanted to have then I’d apply varying wave and blur effects to the layers (which I would usually duplicate several times and then vary the opacity of each layer creating an overlaying/flow effect). The brushwork was also a new thing for me here, I had done a good deal of brushing before, but here I finally got the ‘grunge’ feel down.

avy Beauty Inside

Beauty Inside is kind of a special piece for me, and it’s one that I’ve pulled from and used for different things on several occasions. I think the real showcase here is with the brushwork, up until this point (I had done several wallpapers with heavy brushwork, but I was still learning the ropes and figuring out what my style was going to be) I hadn’t really stuck a brushwork portion of a submission, this was the first one I felt like I really got exactly right, just the way I had envisioned it. I really put in a lot of work on the color palette as well, I wanted this one to really convey it’s point. Beauty Inside would go on to have a wallpaper form (I’ll try to find this and upload it later), It was the basis for the Synthetic Art layout and theme (Again, I’ll find this and upload it later), and finally a edited form ended up becoming a wallpaper I titled sanitarium which is in stark contrast the look and feel of the original design (I’ll upload this one as well). The work was done in Cinema4D and mostly in Adobe Photoshop 7.

avy The Depths

The Depths is one of my earlier wallpapers, created about the same time as cybernetic and lifeless. The render was created in Cinema4d and came out of the same rendering set that I used to create Blood Splatters Pink and a couple other submissions, most of the work here however was done in Adobe Photoshop. The render itself has no texturing done to it, it was exported and then I did some heavy brushwork to highlight some of the characteristics I wanted to show. Honestly I just kinda like the way it was balled up, I’m not sure where the name came from, probably because when I started coloring I went with blue. The main feature of this wallpaper I think is probably the tech work, which I still think is some of my best, at the time I was doing a lot of tech work, I felt I was very good at it and wanted to use it as a major part of my wallpapers.

I really don’t have a lot of back story to go with this one, even though on DeviantART it’s actually one of my most +fav’d submissions. Pretty much I had this render, which I did in Cinema4D, it’s from a set I did which I used for a lot of my wallpapers of this period. I really liked how it flowed and I didn’t want to put any kind of texture on it or do any heavy brushing to it. I decided a splatter backing it would work (something I had experimented with before on an earlier wallpaper and liked) but didn’t want to do something dark so I played around with the colors for awhile and decided on pink. After that I threw in a motion blur behind that and a nice glossy finish on top of everything. It’s really a pretty simple wallpaper,. not much involved with it at all but I guess it captures my favoritism of minimalism.

avy Lifeless

Lifeless is a pretty significant wallpaper to me, it was the first really serious piece of artwork I ever did. Not to say it was my first wallpaper as I had been dabbling in the medium for awhile before Lifeless but up until that point I was really just learning the ropes. As a statement though Lifeless also means a lot to me personally, as it represents a pretty tough period in my life and was a major help getting though it. Lifeless was created completely in photoshop, and still to this day probably is the wallpaper I spent the most time working on, 10s of hours went into the brushwork (probably because at the time I didn’t really know what I was doing and there was a lot of trial and error) and I think it shows!

avy BioPUNK

BioPUNK is an interesting piece of my portfolio for a few reasons. As of now it stands as one of the last serious art things I’ve done (meaning it’s been awhile since I’ve done anything) and because of the time in which it was made. When I started working on the render in 3D Studio Max I didn’t really know what I was going for, I didn’t have any direction that is. However, like much of my artwork at the time it skewed towards this organic style and coloration at which time I began the brushwork. Before I knew it I realized I was looking at a more organic representation of what my older Dream of Change wallpaper had originally set out to be, and a darker one as well. I still regard it as my best work, and my favorite.

avy Dream of Change
›› Posted On: 07.06.12 at 1:46 am ~ ( No Comments )

This is an old one, I think I originally created this wallpaper in 2005 and if I remember correctly it was for a GFX Battle which I won, on create I believe. Dream of Change as I called it was meant to reflect my vision of a neuron firing off during a dream, but clearly there is more to it than just that core concept. The render was created in 3D Studio Max 7, and honestly is pretty poor but I liked the shape of it. It had no texture to it and all the post work was done in Photoshop, displaying some of my early brushwork. I’m still pretty fond of this one, it takes me back, though clearly I was just starting out doing bigger pieces like this one.
