  Chapter I: Memories of Mist

The doors to Alexandria Castle opened before Erlein as he was escorted inside. Guards were lined on both sides of the entrance, their spears and armor shimmering in the sunlight that had entered with him. He found himself in the company of many others, all seemingly being expected by Queen Garnet for individual audiences. The entry way of the castle was grand, much more so than he had expected, the lavish red carpets covering what could only be described as beautiful stonework floors. Ahead a staircase could be seen that spiraled upward, standing on the bottom step was a rigid man waiting for the others to arrive.
” The Queen will see you all shortly in the main hall, if you'll all accomon— ” The man began to speak, addressing the entire group of visitors before a raucous crash sounded from above bringing his speech to an instant halt as he turned and leered upwards where the movement of another caught his instant attention.
” Captain Steiner! Captain Steiner!! It's the Queen… She's… SHE'S GONE! ” The knight bellowed out from the top of the stairs, his voice growing in volume and surprise as he went on. In his hand the knight held a piece of paper like it was the most important object in the world.
” What do you meant she's GONE?! What is that you have in your HAND?! ” Steiner began to respond as he started up the stairs, the high pitched squeaks of his armor plates rubbing together cutting through the silence as he hurried upwards, snatching the letter from the knights hands and looking over it with a look of bewilderment and confusion on his face. ” This.. this is her handwriting. ” Steiner was talking to himself at this point, oblivious to the group of people below. ” I'm sorry everyone, a matter of utmost importance has occurred, you'll have to return another day. ” Steiner said as he realized the delegation was watching from the foot of the stairs.
” What's happened to the Queen?! We deserve to know! ” A tall man in front shouted out, the worry in his voice palpable, the unease spreading through out the small group of people.
” Yes, the news I bring must be heard by the Queen at once! ” Erlain suddenly spoke up, stepping to the front of the small group. ” We deserve to know! ” Erlain continued, feeling out the group of delegates, sensing the unrest and desire to understand what had happened.

OOC Talk:
And so it begins! I will assume that Griff's character is part of this delegation and that Vivi is somewhere nearby in the castle, close enough to have heard most of what happened, bringing everyone into the scene.

Only a little bit of time had passed since Vivi and his companions saved all of Gaia from Garland and Kuja. Yet while others worked towards finding normalcy and moving on with their lives, Vivi recalled the conversation he had with the Black Mage in the Black Mage Village Cemetary. It was then, that Vivi learned that they were all created as weapons of war, with finite lifespans, all passing away after about a year. While the Black Mage attempted to comfort Vivi and inform him that he may live a little longer due to his unique status as the original prototype, Vivi knew his time would still come, yet he was not ready to give up.
That is why, today, Vivi finds himself in the royal library of Alexandria, dutifully studying the annals of history and looking for any possibility of extending his lifespan. Alone, Vivi sat at a table, a stack of books piled up high upon the wood and the musty smell of old books permeating around him. As he flipped through the pages, a commotion could be heard from the banquet hall and the sound of a familiar voice echoed through the halls.
As the words echoed throughout the castle, Vivi heard that someone was missing. It could only be one person that would set Steiner off like this, Queen Garnet. Perhaps she finally left to search out for Zidane, Vivi knew it was only a matter of time, as they often shared stories with each other and talked about how much they missed him.
Regardless, Vivi decided to leave the library and find out from Steiner himself, to see just what was going on. Leaving the books sprawled out, Vivi picked up his staff and hurried out into the banquet hall. Below him, the crowd was becoming raucous and obviously upset about the situation. Vivi made his way towards the stairs and called out to Steiner, “Mister Steiner, what is happening?”

Frantz stood with the others gathered to meet with the Queen. He was on a mission from Burmecia to seek assistance in the rebuilding process. Though here on an official mission, Frantz was unable to think about the story of the battle between Bahamut and Alexander. To think that others had learned to summon, and even had found a way to control the great Alexander. Frantz wished he could have witnessed the battle between two great power, but alas he was still sealed within Mount Gulug. When Kuja unsealed Mount Gulug, Frantz was released by the seal Garland placed on the place, but it seemed he was the only one to remain sealed, all of his people apparently dead. He felt alone in the world until he had made his way to Mist Continent when he met the Burmecians. Though it seemed no one remembered his people at Mount Gulug, the Burmecians were certainly related to his people and that was why he wished to help with the rebuilding Burmecia. It was a home if not his original. Frantz was lost in his own thoughts when he was brought to by screaming, “Burmecia needs Alexandria's help. Where has the Queen gone?”

  Chapter I: Memories of Mist

Erlein stood in front of the others, hearing the voices of many behind him call for their time with the Queen, a feeling seemingly passing between all of them that their promised audiences would not be occurring. For a few moments silence took hold, everyone waiting for Steiner to respond, when from their right another entered the hall, a black mage much like those Kuja had used to wage war on the entire world. The mage however was known to most all in the group as Vivi, a hero who fought along side Steiner, Zidane and the others in their efforts to bring peace to Gaia.
” That's Vivi! ” A voice from the back of the group bellowed in awe, after all Vivi was quite famous now.
” Master Vivi, it's happened, she's left looking for that rascal Zidane. Without any of us to protect her none the less! ” Steiner was wearing his emotions on his sleeve, clearly troubled.
Erlein's gaze had shifted from Steiner to Vivi, he had seen the mage once before in Treno though he had not approached him at the time, being fearful of the mages as he was at the time. Knowing that his audience with Queen Garnet was now impossible he would have to pass on the information he had come to speak with her about to them, they would know what to do and he did not have time to waste.
” Excuse me, Mr. Steiner, Mr. Vivi, I came here to speak with Queen Garnet on behalf of Dr. Tot, to inform her that the Mist has returned in the Treno area, just two days past! It's been seeping up from underground passages and though so far it's not managed to take hold we fear it will once more, something is amiss! ” Erlein had let his own emotions take hold, spilling out all he could quickly, making sure the information was passed on, hoping to at least gain an audience with Steiner or Vivi.

It was as Vivi has expected, Queen Garnet had indeed left to search for Zidane, who had not been seen since he went to look for Kuja.  While Vivi was not surprised, he had always hoped she would at least include others in her plans or at least not leave without notice.  There would be the issue of who would rule in her absence and handle the affairs of the people of Alexandria. As these thoughts lingered, a warrior, who had somehow managed his way partly up the steps informed them of the terrible news of mist returning to the Treno area.
Mixed emotions clouded Vivi’s initial judgement, it was well known the negative effects of Mist, such as increased aggression for mankind and animals alike.  However, Mist was also the key ingredient to Vivi’s creation, and perhaps this was an opportunity for him to extend his own life.  Vivi turned towards the Soldier and simply nodded, but did not answer at this time.  More information was needed about the Queen’s situation first, before a priority could be decided.
Mr. Steiner, what about Ms. Beatrix?” Vivi asked Steiner.  Other than Steiner himself, Beatrix was the other personal body guard of Queen Garnet herself.  Had she perhaps gone with the Queen or did the Queen manage to escape from her as well, was the question on Vivi’s mind.

Frantz listened intently as all parties spoke, trying to keep up with what was going on. While still new to the Mist Continent, Frantz had heard about the hero Zidane who fought alongside Freya and the others. The mist was a foreign topic to Frantz though. He knew that the continent had been mostly convered in the mist, hence the name, but not many actual spoke about it. Most likely because it was apart of everyone's lives since birth, but from the context the mist must not be a good thing. Frantz knew that Freya greatly admired Queen Garnet and as long as she is gone, Burmecia would get no assistance from Alexandria. “Sir Steiner, is there any sign of where the Queen went to look for Zidane?” Frantz hoped that there was some kind of trail to follow.

  Chapter I: Memories of Mist

Many voices filled the stone arched entry to Alexandria Castle, enough that things were beginning to get out of hand, at least that's how it appeared to Erlein. Steiner seemed stunned, almost unable to act now that he had heard about the mist on top of the fact that the Queen was gone, but Vivi's words seemed to snap him back to reality.
” Someone find out if Beatrix is in the castle!!! ” Steiner found himself shouting louder than he had expected, causing instant action from one of the Knight's of Pluto standing nearby. ” Master Vivi, please escort these people to a more comfortable area while I try to find out what's going on here, find out more about these claims of this mist returning, I'll be back soon! ” Steiner was speaking fast, already climbing the stairs towards the Queens chambers, knowing of the secret exit that she surely used to escape, he would need to see more evidence to know for sure she hadn't been kidnapped… again.

.Erlein remained quiet as Steiner addressed Vivi, sensing that the Mage would be the more suitable person to receive his information between the two now that the Queen was missing, and simply waited for Vivi to instruct him and the others where to go.
” This is all kind of crazy, right? ” Erlein said as he leaned in towards a nearby Bermecian, who seemed quite inquisitive in his own right. Erlein wondered what business he had here with Queen Garnet, he was not dressed like a typical Bermician soldier but carried himself like Dragoon Knight none the less, odd.

Feet shuffled all throughout the castle, a panic was clearly overcoming all throughout at the disappearance of Queen Garnet. Ever the one to panic the most, Steiner gave Vivi some brief instructions while finding himself shuffling up the stairs and towards the Queen’s Chambers. Vivi knew that when any information was found that it would be shared with him in time.
Vivi turned towards the crowd, “Everyone, Sir Steiner has everything under control. For those with knowledge of the mist returning, please follow me towards the Royal Library.” With that, Vivi turned around and ascended the stairs, making his way back towards the library, where he had earlier been studying.

Frantz nodded as Erlein spoke with him and responded in a hushed tone, “Hopefully Ms. Beatrix is nearby.” While Sir Steiner was spoken of highly for his part in saving Gaia alongside Lady Freya, Frantz had gotten the impression that he may not be well suited for a situation such as this. This recent interaction only affirmed Frantz's belief. Ms. Beatrix on the other hand was described as someone to handle difficult situations such as this, “I am interested in hearing about the reappearance of the mist.” Frantz spoke much louder this time towards Erlein as he followed behind Vivi into the library. The mist was still much of a mystery for Frantz, but he knew that to everyone else of this continent that it was not.

  Chapter I: Memories of Mist

A few moments passed before Vivi, ever the respectful and calm, instructed himself and a handful of others to follow him. Falling in step behind the famed mage, Erlein followed closely behind down the red carpeted hallway until the entered a massive library. Erlein was in awe as he followed down the wide stairway the flared out on either side into the castle library. The room was quite large, two stories, and almost entirely covered in incredible marble. Along the upper level the entire walls were cases filled with tomes while the lower level where they had been led had towering oaken cases—double sided—filled with even more dusty old tomes. Ahead of them a large wooden table with many stools awaited, a towering globe of Gaia resting nearby.
” This place is incredible. ” Erlein managed to say as he looked up at the chandelier that hung from the towering ceiling, then over towards the row of desks, each stacked with books and papers. ” I never knew such a place existed, the knowledge which must be contained in all of the books. ” he continued, almost forgetting why he had come and the events of his arrival before his vision had settled back on Vivi and the true nature of his visit of Alexandria returned to the forefront of his mind. ” The mist, I almost forgot! ” Erlein started, the tone and timbre of his voice shifting. ” In the hills near Treno it's begun to once again seep from the ground, some of the valleys have already begun to fill and with them the beasts are returning, what could this mean?! ” Erlein was serious now, his eyes looking into the darkness under Vivi's cap, then turning towards the others, the Bermecian who was next to him and seemed deeply interested.

The beauty of the library was one that was often lost to Vivi, for it has been almost like a second home to him since Necron’s defeat. The study of mist and ways to potentially prevent Vivi’s internal clocking from expiring had taken so much of his time; the simple pleasures of the castle escaped him. It was when he saw the young knights expressions upon entering and the very audible statement, that Vivi was reminded.

However, they did not come to marvel at the beauty of the library; something the young knight realized as well. Vivi listened as the knight told him of the reappearance of mist in Treno. The mist had been gone since the Iifa Tree’s unfortunate destruction, yet with it’s disappearance came a calm over the continent, allowing the beasts and monsters that inhabitated the land to slowly transform back to their normal selves.

Vivi nodded as the knight finished his statement and took some time to think about what all of this could mean. One thing that the knight mentioned was that the mist was coming from the ground, and the fact that it was happening in Treno was curious as well. Then Vivi put it together, underneath Treno, the Gargan Roo tunnels ran; these tunnels attached Treno and many other places of the continent to the Iifa Tree. Could the Tree of Life be repairing itself?

“Thank you sir knight, this is definitely something we should investigate.” Vivi finally answered after he had finished processing the information. Vivi then turned towards the Burmecian that had followed them in as well.

“Sir? What brings you to the castle today? Do you have further information about the mist or something otherwise urgent for the Queen?”

The library was massive and Frantz wished he had time to spend here and learn all he could. One of the biggest difficulities for Frantz since being set free from Mount Gulug was learning about things that should be obvious to anyone who had been raised on this continent. These books would be a great way for him to learn without bringing suspicions upon him. There may be time later, but there seems to be forcing moving in the world that needed to be handled first. Monsters were returning? Frantz puzzled in his own head. Was that why people so feared and hated this mist? If it was linked to monsters, Frantz could understand why it would be important as to why it was returning. “My apologies. I forgot to introduce myself. I am Frantz. Lady Freya sent me to ask for assistance with the rebuilding of Burmecia. We have recently begun to rebuild, but with the loss of so many people at both Burmecia and Cleyra, we could use all the help possible. Though the reappearance of Mist and the disappearance of Queen Garnet is deeply concerning.”

OOC: My bad, didn't know the post was up. Also, would Puck be King of Burmecia now?

  Chapter I: Memories of Mist

” You don't understand, the Mist it's returning fast. At first those who traveled through the forests came with the tales and they were dismissed, but I've see it myself and that was just a week ago, who knows how much it had expanded since then, it could completely envelope the continent again within a few weeks time! Perhaps less! ” Erlein found himself interrupting the famed mage and the Bermecian, the emotion in his voice seeming to flow over, taking control and selling the seriousness of the matter completely.
A silence seemed to fill the library after Erlein had spoke, breaking the normal conversations around him with an emotional barrage that was wholly unprepared. Erlein remained silent, hoping that the Mage Vivi would understand fully the impact of the return of the Mist and that something would have to be done quickly. It dawned on him in that moment that perhaps even that the Queen could have already received such news before his arrival which could have made her search for Zidane even more pressing, he knew they needed to move fast now, he hoped that Vivi would see things the same way.

The Burmecian, Frantz spoke about the rebuilding of Burmecia and with his words, Vivi recalled the image of Burmecia, bodies of fallen Soldiers and Burmercians littered throughout the streets and homes.  The party had arrived too late to be of any help and although they were able to make it to Cleyra in time, they still failed as many more died in that battle as well.
With these memories fresh in his mind, Vivi uttered out a sentence, “I know Queen Garnet would love to provide assistance..”. Yet, it was during this sentence that the young knight butted in about the urgency of the mist, a threat Vivi knew was a serious concern. “Mr. Knight,” Vivi stated, realizing he still didn’t know his name, “You are correct, the Mist is of the utmost concern, and I believe in our investigation we may just stumble upon Queen Garnet and Zidane.  There’s nothing more he can avoid than wanting to be a hero.  I will leave a letter for Mr. Steiner and inform him that I have left the castle.
Vivi turned towards the table and pulled out a quill and parchment.  As he wrote the letter, he spoke aloud to the group, “My plan is to head towards Treno and then the Iifa Tree.  You both may join me if you wish.”  With that, Vivi completed his note and left it upon the table, he knew Steiner would look for him here.

Frantz felt that he should be more worried about assisting with the rebuilding of Burmecian, they were his people to some degree, but this Mist seemed far more dangerous and pressing of a matter. Frantz moved to the table with Vivi and grabbed another piece of parchment and quill and began writing a message to Lady Freya. He described how Queen Garnet had gone to search for Zidane and that Frantz would not be on his way to Treno and the Iifa Tree to investigate the Mist reappearance. Frantz was unsure what or were the Iifa Tree is, but by the way that Vivi spoke about it he hopes Freya knew about it. Frantz folded the piece of parchment, dripped wax on the fold from a nearby candle, and took out a small metal seal to place his mark on the missive. “Vivi, I would like to accompany you on this investigation, but could you leave word for this letter to be sent with haste to Lady Freya in Burmecia? They need to know of the reappearance of the Mist should they not have seen it already.”

  Chapter I: Memories of Mist

Vivi had made his mind up quickly, taking to the pen to leave a note to Captain Steiner without any perturbation, while explaining to the others his plan to head towards Terno and then onward to the Iifa Tree. It all made sense in Erlein's mind, and for a moment he wondered if being pushed upon the Mage Vivi had indeed been more fortuitous than having met in delegation with the Queen after all.
” I of course will also be accompanying you master Vivi. ” Erlein spoke directly after the Bermecian who had also set his mind into investigating the Mist. ” If we are to leave at once I would be honored if you both would accompany me back to Treno on my Airship The Pyrefly. ” Erlein continued, knowing that it would be the fastest way for them to return to his home.

As Vivi expected, both of them had agreed to the journey.  While Vivi understood how important it must be to help rebuild Burmecia, the Mist was something that took the utmost priority for who knows what else or who else could return with it.  Vivi nodded towards Frantz and scribbled a small note at the bottom of his original letter for have the Burmecians letter sent to Lady Freya.  As they had all agreed to leave, the other knight offered the use of his airship, a much welcome surprise as Vivi dreaded the land route through the Dark Forest.
“Let's move towards your ship at once, Mr…” Vivi trailed off, realizing he still hadn't learned the name of this knight.

Airship?! The word caught Frantz attention, but he did his best to show nothing outwardly. He had seen this mode of transportation before, but he had never ridden on one prior to now. Travelling by foot or boat had served Frantz fine up until now, he even preferred it as he felt he had some control. The idea of travelling in a boat through the sky was not something he considered safe, but apparently the residents of this continent didn't think twice of them. The Mist was a danger that needed to be addressed as quickly as possible so Frantz thought this would be the best time to get over his worries, “Let's make haste.”

  Chapter I: Memories of Mist

Erlein felt a rush of adrenaline as both the legendary mage Vivi and the Bermecian agreed almost at the same time that they should make haste towards his airship and head straight for Treno.
” I'm sorry, I guess I never introduced myself formally to either of you. ” Erlein started to speak as he turned back towards the staircase the had descended just moments before and began to climb. ” My name is Erlein Ralwint, I was sent here by Queen Stella of Treno but I'm not officially connected with the royal family, just someone they trust. ” Erlein continued, as he had climbed the stairs and started back through the castle, past the staircase and out into a brightly lite court yard which faced a wide river, where a boat awaited them. ” I left my ship just outside of the main gates, we'll pass through the market so if there is anything either of you needs we can pick it up on the way. Erlein continued as he boarded the small craft and awaited the others, his heart still beating fast, longing for the adventure that was about to begin.

It did not take long before the old tomes and musty books and ancient scrolls disappeared from sight as the group began to hurriedly make their way towards the airship.  There were so many questions in regards to the appearance of the mist and Vivi knew that there was no way they would not also run into Zidane and perhaps Queen Garnet as well.  Zidane was a hero and Vivi knew that if he knew about the Mist, he would do whatever he could to help.  At the same time, the Mist was a key ingredient into the development of Vivi and perhaps it could prolong his life as well.
In what seemed like only minutes, the group of them were outside the castle and boarding a boat to head towards the market.  However, supplies were not something Vivi would need as he always ensured that he carried along with him the proper items at all times.  Being here, you never knew when an adventure would begin.
OOC: I have no need of the market, feel free to jump us to the airship if you have nothing else Griff.
