Here are the enemies that can be found at Midgar No. 1 Reactor. Just hoping to help out with this little project, I'd be happy to make adjustments based on feedback. If it works for everyone, then I'd be down to do the rest of the bestiary and locations as well. Just need to figure out how to fix the tables that keep showing through the gradient backgrounds. Also, my mobile will display the blue backgrounds, but my laptop will not, is anyone else having a similar issue?

Posting this here as a comparison. These bios are all pictures. Managed to get lucky and wake up to the bio backgrounds showing on my laptop. Snagged screenshots, needed minimal editing, and here we are: bios that can easily be inserted into other threads. It should be noted that while the quality of these matches the coded bios on my computer, my mobile device shows much sharper text in the coded bios than the pictures. Might look into making these pictures using my phone instead, if it makes the bio look that much sharper.

There are still a couple of pieces of information missing, but I put the most important information that I could find in there. It is possible to add these other bits of info, but it could cause the bios to look too cluttered. If I get the okay to go ahead and make more of these, I'll begin on the next set of monsters from the Midgar lower sector 4 plate. Since we're not a linear RPG, we could make these locations more generic by putting all of the reactor enemies into a single reactor set, instead of having a set for each individual reactor. For now I'll do basic sets, since it keeps to the original feel of the game. But I don't feel this is my call to make, and would like to know what everyone else wants to do with the bestiary in general. I believe this is also a different set up, as from what I recall the previous bestiary was an A – Z type list. This is a bit more immersive, and makes it easier to find enemies based on location without having to use other sources. It also feels just a little bit more like an adventure, but then again, if everyone else wants to stick with an A – Z type list then I'll adapt to that and make it happen.


ENEMY STATS MISSING – ( these could still be added if we want them )
[ this difference can be seen between the first and second post bios ]

1. Df%
2. Evasion
3. Basic attack elements (hit, shoot, cut, etc.)
4. PAt% for each attack
5. Affiliation (shinra, hostile, neutral, etc)

And that's it.
I personally like the look that these stats add to the bios, and it makes them feel like all the info is there.

Lemme know if I should change anything and I'll do it as soon as I can!

Once these are approved to go, I'll start on the rest of the bestiary.

These looks really good, I see the backgrounds just fine though if you're having issues it's probably these forums and how they handle HTML. They strip some code, and require you to do certain things certain ways. They're kinda dated but there aren't really any forums out there that support full HTML integration into posts, most have very limited (as well as the updated version of these) I personally modified them a good deal as well to work with my setup here years and years ago and added more HTML capibility then they originally had. The extended stats probably wouldn't be needed, if we are even going to do stats as anything more than a guide at all. As for continuation, I'm not sure where and when in the timeline I wanna start the RP yet. I have some ideas, I finished the remake today so that's also big on influencing how I'm going to do it, since it opens up some pretty cool possibities. 

I'm open for suggestions on where and when you'd like to start.

Thanks, the look changes slightly between my phone and computer, with the background sometimes giving out completely and just shows a black background, but then other times it works. Very random. Turning these into pictures will eliminate that problem though.

I still have yet to get passed Chapter 9, so once I get home I'll take a break from this and get back to finishing the Remake. Is this a story we want to continue from the ending of the remake, or is that part of what your trying to decide?

If we start at the start where both FF7s do then I feel like we would have more room to do stuff and it wouldn't spoil the ending for people, but then again you'd have to take Cloud through pretty much the whole game again in RP style.

I'm running my character through a similar path to the one in the game, so it'd be nice if we could start with Midgar for a little bit. I'd say we could do some anti-shinra stuff, but that'll depend again on if we continue from the end of the Remake, the Classic, or start at the beginning of both.

Well, without spoiling anything, the ending just opens up some overall timeline things that give me a lot of room to work with. Umm, as far as our starting point, in the previous story RP we were doing here for a long time we started in Nibelheim when Zack and Cloud escape and altered the timeline from there, on the original Fortress story it kinda picked up at the point that the game started and altered from there. Any of these timeline points, including post Midgar are possible starting points. I will tell an alternate story, just figuring out where it starts and what has happened in the timeline up to that point is key. I'm open for starting around the same point as the game does if that's what everyone whats to do.

Alternate storyline is definitely the way to go. I think it should start before the Reactor No. 1 gets blown up, so that we can still do stuff with it. Put the initial bombing mission off for awhile, or say that Cloud didn't get hired for it and Avalanche couldn't pull the job off yet.

Some Wutai activity could stir things up. I suppose it wouldn't end up being much different than the stuff with Avalanche and blowing up the reactors though. Unless their goal isn't to blow up the reactors, but to get deeper inside Shinra and to affect them in a whole different way. It could at least be a little hook that gets characters from Wutai involved anyway.


For the bestiary I'm going to remove the Df%, cause we really don't need it at this point, and I'm going to change PAt% to something more useable like Acc 85%, at least that way it gives an idea of how accurate the attack is in RP. Going to leave evasion cause it helps give a little idea how much something should be evading in RP. Also going to leave the affiliation tag, because it will be important for people on Shinra's side to know not to attack their own people, etc.

That should take out the clutter and make it look less like a database and more like a handful of useful information for sizing up an RP battle



edit: ended up removing evasion, accuracy, and physical damage types, and also trimmed some of the attack rules.

Nope, lol. Turning the bios into pictures did not solve this problem, they still turned to black even after turned to photos. I finally managed to find out what's been happening when I got home from work and saw the backgrounds shift from blue to black right before my very eyes. Should've noticed the pattern sooner. It turns out the night light settings on this computer block the blue backgrounds, causing them to become transparent. I ended up coding a black background into the bios due to this without even realizing it when I initially copied them from the webpage late at night. Didn't even stop to check the webpage again to find out that the colors have been disappearing there all along too, because of the night light.

So if anyone starts having the blue gradient backgrounds fade out from any of the content here, be sure to check not only the computer's night light settings, but also for any apps such as f.lux that also block the blue light.

That's good information to know, I've had some backgound issues on the forum before my solution was to just make sure the background color was set for every table cell or div individually instead of using a container tag. I've cleaned up some of the issues over the years though. I've also been fixing the site's pages the last few days, getting the images off photobucket to the ones hosted here. I've been doing some work to the overall site too, since I have time currently.

Nice, the pages look way better without photobucket all over the place. At the moment I'm hosting all the images I'm using for the bestiary on my own imgur account. Is there a local picture database on the site that I can upload them to, or should I keep putting them on imgur?

Been thinking about making materia and equipment sets that match the new profile look too, and so there would also be all of those pictures as well. Materia wouldn't be as bad, because I'm planning on just using the colored materia image, but for the weapons and armor at least I can get the images for all of those. I just don't want to bog the site down with images if that creates a problem, but if it has a place I can upload them to and you think it'll be fine then I'll go ahead and do that. Seems like it would be best for all the images to be here rather than my own imgur, so that everyone has access to the images too.

Still focusing on beating the Remake though, so won't have too much done for a couple days.

I can set you up to upload images via the sites internal image system sometime today. As for like equipment, the pages here aside from like red xiii's weapons already have images for almost every weapon. As for like bogging the site down, that's not an issue I have unlimited storage and bandwidth. Back when I started moving content and archiving stuff here photobucket was still free, since that's what I mainly used for MSN groups I generally just copy/pasted pages over. Last year or whenever when photobucket added more hosting restrictions a lot of that content went to shit. Slowly but surely I can get all the stuff across all my archives here changed over.

Excellent, unlimited data is a wonderful thing. That whole photobucket issue is the reason I want to move the images over to here too. Just in case imgur does something similar or something happens to my account on there, at least the images here will be fine.

Also I do like the current images of the weapons, but I was thinking about using the ones from the other FF7 remake that came out, not the actual Remake, but the little HD rerelease that came out. There are some nice new images for the classic weapons and armor. But also I noticed some errors in the boomerangs, like the slots in the 4-point shuriken and the damage of the wind slash for example. Thought it would be a good opportunity to touch up on that stuff as well. I'll tinker around with an example what I'm thinking while I'm at work today. Don't want them to have as much info as the bestiary, just want to see how they look in the blue box.

Yeah, you never know about images and hosting. As far as uploading images now if you go to the site homepage (dystopiapro.com) and click on dashboard button at the top of the page you should now be able to go to the media tab and upload images. For some reason it's not working on some of the individual sub-sites right now, something I thought I had fixed awhile back, but anyways. Feel free to upload whatever images you need there for now.

Managed to upload the green materia picture to the dashboard media, but I can't seem to get the code to work for img src. I've tried using the address it has, but the image doesn't show on the post. Is there a certain path we need to use, like /images/green-materia.png or something like that? Also wondering if we can make folders to organize the pictures into separate albums. 

If we don't end up getting that to work then I was thinking we could always make an imgur account for FF7 Fortress and just put everything there for now if we need to.


Bestiary:
Added Total stat values. Now everything can be sized up at a glance. I thought the Dex stats would mess things up, but it actually puts everything at a perfect balance for where a character's level and equipment should be at.

The only exception to this would be the boss, Guard Scorpion, but this is fine if multiple people combine their stats to fight it (or a higher level and better geared person who should be able to solo it at that point anyway).

The only problem I see with this is the 100 word and 1 post rule we have set, and the fact that item drops and the steal materia are pretty much out because we're likely not going to be having stat battles. I'm sure the boss battles run differently, but at the moment it seems like it only takes 100 words and 1 post for a group to take on the boss. Not sure if this is the plan, but thought I'd point it out so we can figure that out. We could easily implement an increased word/post count for each level an enemy or boss is ahead of someone, or even for like every 10 stats that something else is ahead of a person or party then it adds another 100 words or something like that. Would be pretty easy to figure out with the stat Totals already being calculated the way they are now. I only mention this so it feels like a couple more turns of combat take place for stronger enemies than just walking in and dropping everything in one shot. Though everyone could reasonably still do that with anything equal to or less than their level/stat total.

Perhaps there could also be optional posts that don't really apply towards the word and post count, but are required to do certain actions such as steal? Like if someone has steal and wants to use it then maybe that could be a post that requires its own word count of trying to steal based on the circumstances, but it doesn't go toward the word/post total to defeat enemy.

You have to be on the overall dystopiapro.com homepage or one of the pages of the main site, not here on fortress. The upload on the sub-sites aren't working right now for some reason. As for stuff like word counts, that's all really dated content (circa 2007) if we're going to use counts we'll probably have to come up with something more user friendly, like a word to xp formula or something. All the content here is very old, we can pick and choose what we actually want to use for what we end up doing.

Ah, now I see the other pictures. Cool, and I'll just use a “FF7F-Set Name” type of filename for the pictures I upload so that we can keep it organized as we go.


I'm pretty familiar with words to XP formulas, Tanaka-San and I used them on a couple projects back in the MSN Groups days. They worked really well. Would this just be for RP quests and such, or would this also replace the exp rewards from each enemy in RP battles?


edit: actually now that i think about it, tana and i used a word to point system, since we didn't use exp. it was something like every 10 or 100 words was 1 point to divide into stats. we could still do it with exp though, like every 100 words is 1 exp x lvl or something like that.

I've used words to xp systems for several RPs so it won't be an issue to calibrate it for what we end up doing here. I actually ended up hearing back From Sanarian yeterday as well and seems he is interested in joining us though we haven't had a chance to actually discuss details about that yet. Hopefully we'll be set to go pretty soon.

Very cool, I'm glad you've been able to reconnect with San and to get him to join again.


I just got to Chapter 13 on the Remake, so I'm that much closer to getting back to finishing the bestiary. It'd be good to have at least Midgar done by the time we begin.


Any other things you'd like to revamp for the system before we begin? Such as using Limit Breaks in RP battles and quests? Like 100 words extra to the total and can only be used after a certain amount of posts where you've taken damage or something like that?
