Hated 13 with a passion.

But this new XV footage gives me an erection.

Gives me a big FF7 vibe. Scuse me while I go fap.

I don't get the FF7 vibe you get, stylistcally I'm not to keen on the look of the characters or feel of the trailer. Visually it's very nice and the combat looks like it could be interesting. I really don't much care for the cruising around in a car parts. Mostly, just like FFXI, FFXII, and FFXIII it doesn't 'FEEL' like Final Fantasy to me.

I kind of agree with the FF7 vibe, but more like they tried to get it like FF7, but didn't quite succeed. One thing I noticed playing the newest FF music game is that since IX the music has really been going downhill. None of that music really stuck out at me as Final Fantasy. The battle system reminds me of the Last Story, but I like the Last Story's better from what I've seen of XV. The car riding stuff looks stupid too, just as much as you seem to do it. Reminds me of the elevator rides from ME1. It's a cool way to see the scenery and stuff, just seems like it can get old quick.

The vehicle is how you travel fast in the open world. It's not a loading screen and it's maneuverable by the player if you want to do it (there's an auto mode and a free roam).

Agree about the music, though. I mean the fucking main combat theme of 13 sounded like Careless Whisper by George Michael at certain points. I really disliked the music in 13… it just didn't feel Final Fantasy-ish at all, and I blame that on a completely new composer. From the limited music we've heard for this game, I do think it'll be better this time around.

Final Fantasy music without Uematsu is just plain wrong any way you package it.

XVI + Itou, I can only hope.

Trailer was unimpressive with the exception of Shimomura's composition. I find the Versus (2011) and XV (2013) trailer to be far more interesting. I hate how Stella looks younger and has a more rounded facial structure now. I agree with John on the party's appearance too. I'm sure they want the Royal Family/Mafia all black clothing, but I'm positive there are exceptions in real life mafia. The whole FF7 vibes probably only lies in its modern setting (which is just the Lucis [Noctis'] Kingdom being more technologically advanced) and the boy band having a uniform dress style like the Turks. Otherwise, I don't see the connection, 'vibes', or tone.

But you guys should read up on the interviews folowing its TGS reveal:
4GAMER XV INTERVIEW

You will mostly camp out during the actual game, he told 4Gamer. And camping out is important. Since time is a real factor, characters who don’t sleep will do worse in battle.

When a day is over, accrued experience will be calculated in an effort to give players an idea of how much they’ve accomplished over that stretch of time.
Only gain experience after resting/camping at night.

The combat is no longer similar to the 2011 or 2013 trailer where it was more like KH. By how it reads, it's more along the lines of XII except more action. And the combat system mostly revoles around the holding one-button for chained actions and abilities:
There are no menu commands in combat. It controls like an action game where players switch between offense and defense. You can only control Noctis, but you can give orders to other party members. And you can call up the menu screen to give commands to everyone, swap out weapons, etc.

If you watch the TGS tech demo, there's a log showing what actions are being taken against the monsters on the left corresponding to the party status table on the right. In that regard, it does seem closer to XII with the addition of possible directives through a menu.

That said, Nomura's no longer directing either as he's been replaced atogether by Tabata (who directed Type-0 and is bringing an HD version overseas too – check this one out!) and moved to take control over KHIII. According to interviews, it was a company decision while Nomura just gives a terse response on the matter.

It's unfortunate because this was the one game I thought Nomura deserved as his shot at a mainline FF having been a part of the series and company for decades. At the same damn time, you have to wonder about his role as director and understanding the workflow of a mainline FF outside of art.

The change in direction of its combat is probably a result of Tabata who sat down with Nomura on the core concepts he'd established over the pre-production period and did his best to maintain in the re-branded XV.

I was really not a big fan of FFXII's gambits. Tabata did a really good job with Crisis Core but I'm skeptical about FFXV and the direction it's going/has gone. The thing that gets me most is still the art/atmosphere which really turns me off as did FFXIII. I'm not to excited about how a story is going to play out with those characters.

As I mentioned to Lydeck the other day, at least Level-5 is still carrying the jRPG torch so all is not lost.

Outsource a CT HD to Level-5 to complete me.

On XVI, I'd be content were it similar in terms of art style being the peculiar indo-european design Amano had going (I'd best describe his style as taking the adornments throughout Southern Asia while combining them with Middle Aged Europe architecture) for II-VI.

On a somewhat unrelated note, you should both play Bravely Default if you haven't already. May not be a numbered Final Fantasy game but it certainly feels like one (was outsourced by Square) and would be in my top 3 if it *was* an FF game.

Sadly it's a 3DS game, and I don't have a 3DS lol.

Yeah, I was following BD:FF but I'm in the same boat as him: no 3DS. Hear there's going to be a second too, but some of the reviews on GAF say otherwise about it being remarkable and all. Looks like a ash-up of III and V (which are both in my top 5) – but no damn 3DS to have at it.

Eff the GAF'ers. Anyone that doesn't like Bravely should be considered a heretic and burned at the stake. Wink

Yeah regretably the Japanese market has all but shifted to handhelds as the primary gaming devices so the best JRPGs are going to be on handhelds from here on out. I can't see myself buying a 3DS so this is one I likely won't get to play.

At least with PSP games (of which Square had several great ones) I could DL them easily or even mod them to play on my PS3. I just can't see getting a 3DS though, not much on the handheld for me outside of the discussed game.

Could always watch a silent “Let's Play” if you'll never get the chance to play it.

Watch someone else play a game? Do people actually do that?

Oh yes. Most poeple do it with the people talking for entertainment value, but I've done it for two PSP games because I'm never going to own a PSP and play those games. I personally only like it if the person playing it silent, so it's like watching a recording of a playthrough I'd have done or w/e.
