The database is in place, the basic directory render engine is in place (need to expand on this to include the pop up dialog with detailed information), and the sidebar navigation is in place. Should be able to have this entire section done within a few days.
I will be continuing work on the backend soon, though Chimera will be mostly on hold now until I get the site itself re-worked and the network built. That being said I will probably continue to mess with Chimera while I work on that as well, as many features might be shared.

I mean, most cases they can just pop on the forums and look. We can't really track that, it's one thing on site (I can access all our forum databases with scripts and render that info) it's another for a network. As for our hosted RPGs, I intend to have a separate directory for them with more info, like what our homepage is now, or perhaps even closer to the CPN directory (depending on how many we actually host.) My thoughts on that are, we should be somewhat selective about what we host here, CPN didn't work and simply hosting whatever will just end up in a bunch of empty groups.

Yeah, I was thinking more for the groups that get hosted here. I guess it would depend on how easy/difficult we could verify that information to update it in the network. Activity and member count though, in my opinion, is something that is important to prospective members, you don't want to go somewhere that's dead or has no activity.

Visually, I do like how the Directory is currently setup and do believe it will be a good basis for the Networking area. I don't like the idea of getting rid of sorting at the top of the Networking area like the Directory currently has, reason being is that it is an option that the members would have and if that option can be provided, then why not?

However, I also like the idea having the RPG Genres on the right side with the number of RPGS within each genre listed as well.

As for fields:
- Name
- Button
- URL
- Description
- Genre
- Member Count
- Weekly Activity Level
- Awards
- Date Opened
- Friends: This is a feature that would be cool to add later on. First, people would have to be able to “friend” people on Dystopia Pro, then in the RPG Directory, if any of your “friends” are members of an RPG, it could list them.

We need to break down how the network is going to operate, etc here. Just general ideas about how we list the RPGs, how we navigate them, what fields we use in the database, etc. Any ideas?

Visually I was thinking we'd do something close to the directory as it is now, just with more information. As for how it functions I thought instead of having a form with drop downs to sort them we could just do a nav on the right where the directory stats are now. One div for each genre with maybe the number of RPGs in that genre listed there as well. Then simple pagination to sort from there. Perhaps we can feature one RPG per gerne page every week or bi-weekly or something to appear at the top of the list no matter what?

As for fields there are the important ones (name, button, url, description, genre) but what else should we keep track of? We want this directory to be a good place for RPers to find RPs after all.

I've been working conceptually tonight on some of the changes that need to take place with the site structure itself to make it more of a community than just a collection of RP boards. The first thing that will entail is the before mentioned restructuring of the homepage. Here's a link to the original concept for the layout I'm using http://dystopiapro.com/images/rpgs2.jpg which is probably what I will take it back closer too. What we use a homepage now I want to kind of merge into the directory so each listing there has recent posts and stuff like that. The homepage will go back to being a gateway into the site, though I will figure out ways to add some links to our biggest RPs and hot topics to the community forums and new additions to the network. We will also need to restructure the "community" area, which as of now is just these forums. I think just setting it up as a blog style page with updates and gateway links to all of the other areas, hot topics, top RPGs, etc sorta our take on the cpn main http://dystopiapro.com/images/cpn2.jpg
Lets us add players manually if need be.
› (0%) Add Techniques Tool: Adds new techniques to the database, no editing pages required.
› (0%) Add Items Tools: As with Techniques but adds new items, no editing, etc.
› (0%) Edit Techniques Tool: Allows you to pick an existing technique via dropdown or search and make changes to it's database entry (like stats, or description, image, etc)
› (0%) Edit Items Tool: As with edit techniques but with items and equipment.
› (0%) System Globals Tool: This is where you will set things like XP multipliers and other variables you will want to be able to change like registration on/off, etc.

Back End ~ Update Queue:
› (100%) Design UI: need to do UIs for both the front end portal of this that users interact with and the backend that the admins will see.
› (0%) XP Database: This stores the XP info the parsers will use to check against to trigger a level up, it will also store level up info (stat increases etc)
› (100%) The Queue: A database will be needed for this, basic flow is user puts required info into front end UI, that gets written to a queue database. The back end UI will load all the individual rows from that queue database into it and allow an admin to trigger said update via click of a button which will send info to the queue parser(s) which will then update the character database and finally delete the item from the queue database. The meat of this system here can be used on several of our projects, including registration for chimera, adding RPGs to our network, etc. They will all mostly function the exact same way save the actual parsing.
Most of the RPG networks out there have competitions monthly that reward prime affiliation spots, i.e. feature spots.
I can pull out the old code for the directory I had on CPN which ranked the groups based on activity and cannibalize it some to put it into use here. I will have to let the design stuff bounce around in the ole' noggin for awhile though, figure out how I want to change the look and whatnot before I go in and work on the container code and stuff.

Created topics based off of some of our conversations when it comes to coming up with ideas for engaging the community and bringing in new members.

1) Definitely agree here. When I'm on my PC tomorrow, I'll go around clicking on all kinds of links and see if I can break things and how easy it is too navigate or find the information I'm looking for. I think a good idea for the home page could be if it listed the current most active RPGs instead of just a strict 9-12 that we have to rotate so often.

2) I like this idea, I was actually trying to figure out how to leave some groups earlier today.

3) Agreed. As we discussed, Insanity should be a good place to really work out Chimera Engine due to it's simplicity. Again, I want to see how much I can get done next week before I fully commit to it. As for which RPGs we clean up first, I think we really to think about what has the most appeal.

4) Created a topic for this.
