I doubt Square will ever out source a main FF game, but if they did I'm with you, Level-5 is where it's at. I've been on their band wagon since the PS2 era and I still pretty much love everything they do. Definitely a fan of Ni No Kuni and Ni No Kuni II (which I told Griff was like if you took all Level-5's most notable games and took aspects from each, combining them into a Level-5 retrospective.) Level-5 is by far the premiere RPG developer right now and have been since Square began to falter in the PS2 era. Frankly I'm surprsed Square tried to outsource the FFVII remake, we see how well that worked out for them... That game was suppose to release this year, which is crazy.

Well I would personally want just a few guys at most to pitch in for the FF inspired side, otherwise I’d have expectations for Level 5 to be in charge of this. Or whoever the team is behind Ni no Kuni and DQ.

Really though, I clamor for that V 3DS style remake. It’s so bad I’m all inside III PC port files thinking about modding it altogether lol. Might just pick up back this little FF5 project from 2012. At the very least, I’ll learn a few things in the process.

FFII is a lot like FFVIII in the way if you know what you're doing you can completely break that game really early on and become super powered. The PSP version is the way to go, pretty sure it uses the same expanded translation (more story here then the original NES version) and may have the additional dungeon(s)? Even if that additional stuff isn't there it by far looks the best out of the two.

As for Parasite Eve, I dabbled with The 3rd Birthday, it's alright. Definitely more action oriented, production values are really good though it's one of the better looking PSP games. Square did some really great stuff on the PSP. I didn't spend that much time with it though as I haven't ever finished PE2, something I intend to do soon. That PS1 era of Square was just amazing though, I recently finished buying all the PS1 Square releases with the intention of playing through all the ones I haven't completed, and maybe replaying some of the ones I have (Vagrant Story would be prime for this, it's probably the best looking and one of the best written games of that entire generation.)

Nice to see CT getting some love in that video, Square should stay away from it though! No remakes of that please. I wouldn't mind another sequel though.

I haven’t checked out the PSO version of FF2, but I know I did enjoy the DoS version. One thing I like about both II and VIII is they did leveling differently than almost every other game. FF2 was very detailed about leveling, almost realistic in a way.
PS Square did great things, PE will always be a classic. The atmosphere and score is something you want to get lost in especially. Have you checked out T3B? What did you think of that? Tbh… I always did wonder how PE would be as a complete remake in HD for modern gen. Might guess is the core battle system would shift more towards action like they’re doing with FF7RE.
Never actually finished XG, or even Vagrant Story (which is also nice but will make you run if you don’t know how to play). Add Tactics and the other one you mentioned to that list.

oh btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKca4X3AKR0
thats pretty damn nice...

That playstation era was special fore Square, not just with Final Fantasy. We really have FF7 to thank for that though, it was such a major success and flooded Square's coffers with so much money that they pretty much greenlit any idea any of their main people had. We got Xenogears, and Parasite Eve (both offshoots of FF7 whose story ideas were originally considered canidates for FF7) close after then games like Brave Fencer Musashi on one end and Vagrant Story on the other. It's too bad Spirits Within ended up almost bankrupting them after such success, that and rising cost of development sorta limited the PS2 fair.

Glad you've come around on FFVIII though, still probably my favorite of them all, there's a lot going on with that game that people just push away to complain about a handful of things. I'm still pretty bummed there has been no PS4 port of the game as the FFVII and FFIX ports were really great (and had the 2x and 3/4x game speed options which made the grinding aspect of the older titles much easier to deal with)

Also, you like Dawn of Souls better than FFII Anniversary? I prefer the PSP widescreen display and larger sprites myself, though I'll admit I have both versions lol.

That’s pretty solid, I think the PS games were amazing. There was something about that gen of FF that was genuine Square. You never knew what to expect at that time, there were similar but different. Hard to explain. I actually think VIII is badass with how open the Draw/Magic/Junction system is. If you wanna break it, you can provided you know how to from the get go! IX is an all in one homage bringing classic stuff back.
But you know what... I even prefer III PSP and II DoS over IV and X. Yeah.... that’s how much I can’t stand those two games.

I agree about IV, back in the olden days people would spout about it all the time but it definitely feels left behind now. For me it's the three PS1 games in the top tier (plus Tactics if we're including that) , V, VI, X, and XII in the second (if we're including off-shoots and remakes I'd also include Dissidia and Crisis Core in this second tier). Third tier would be XV, the PSP remakes of 1 2 and 3.

The job system is a prime reason why it’s at the top out the main series. The mechanic are very solid and holds up well to-date especially against the majority of others for me. IV is definitely out of range. VI is right behind V actually, love it’s world and characters like no other.

That interesting, you don't hear a lot of people say that V is their favorite of the series. VI sure, IV sometimes but very rarely V. Personally I like VI better than V but I wouldn't put either in the top tier of FFs, 2nd tier for me. I always thought the best part of V was the job system but Tactics sorta does it better, so.
Check the dates, crazy how time flies! The other stuff was me doing some FFV related designs (you know its my #1 out the series).
What about RPing? You're welcome to join in on our FF9 RP we've been slowly going with.
