dystopia on Last Movie You Watched?

Watched Chaplin the other day, and then Attenburough dies like 2-3 days later, odd. It sucks that people only remember him as an actor in Jurassic Park and not as a director of several really good films. I'm thinking of checking out The Zero Theorem this week, if I can find a good time to watch it. I've always enjoyed Terry Gilliam as a director, and this seems to have Brazil vibe to it, which is one of my favorite films.

I haven't watched The Master yet for some reason. I'm not a PTA fanboy either, but I will admit, he's an extremely talented filmmaker. Probably top 5 currently in the biz.

I thought the first new Planet of the Apes was alright, I mean it was a hell of a lot better than the Tim Burton one. That being said, I prefer the original Planet of the Apes films to the reboot, I loved those as a kid, still do.

The other night I watched The Master, was pretty impressed with it. Strong all around, and while I'm not a huge Paul Thomas Anderson fan (Although There Will Be Blood is one of the best films of the past 25 years easily) this one is probably my second favorite of his films.

I'm sure I've seen something on cable since this, but the last movie I recall seeing was Dawn of the Planet of the Apes a couple of weeks ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was quite a bit better than Rise, even if there were some slow parts.

I saw that recently, yeah it was alright. In the group of Liam Neesan moves that aren't the first Taken but have him as a badass of some kind it's probably the nest best to Taken. You're right though the 'twists' and all that stuff weren't very well executed but it's an action flick, what do you expect? lol.

Last film I watched was the 1986 Ron Howard directed comedy "Gung Ho" staring Michael Keaton. It wasn't any good, but I stumbled across it on VHS in a thrift shop and I hadn't ever heard of it so I bought it.

I found it to be an okay movie. I forgot where I watched it... either netflix... or I rented it from amazon. I thought the ending was horrible.

I don't remember laughing at all, so I much have found it all not funny. I'm pretty sure the only reason I didn't turn it off was I was playing DQV at the same time.

Pretty much my feelings on The Dictator. Only part I really though was funny was the "splish splash, takin' a bath" part.

A couple more movies to add from the weekend.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) ›› ( 6.2/10 )
For a guy who really likes Steve Martin and doesn't mind John Candy, somehow I had never actually seen more than 10 minutes of this movie in passing. I decided to give it a full watch and it was pretty good, what you'd expect out of this kind of this. Steve Martin was in top form, John Candy is better in other things. It's on the high end of 80s comedies, so a 6.2 is actually a pretty good score for what this is.

To start off I have to say, I really love Borat, that movie is one of the funniest things ever put on the big screen. This however, is not. In fact this is a pretty terrible movie that luckily is only like and hour and twenty minutes long. Also.. Seriously Ben Kingsley? You're a fucking great actor why are you in this?

Yeah, this one might be a little better than the second one, but it doesn't have as many memorable lines/moments in my eyes. But, then again, I don't really care about that much in the first place.

The Hangover Part III - Very quick overview here. Pretty much what I expected. They went away from the formula of the first two and did something else. Really, it was more of an action-comedy than anything. It was okay. Not as memorable as the first two, but pretty consistently funny. Still, there were some things that weren't that great (as expected). Despite that, I sorta like how they ended it all, though moreso in theory than execution. 6.0/10

Dude, I really dig the first two tapes from V/H/S. Like you said, a little slow to get started, but man are they creepy and awesome.

The beginning started off slow and then got kind've messed up at certain points.. but ofcourse this is nothing compared to what goes on later lol. Honestly the segments are all very messed up, one of them being kind've dumber but still crazy. I got scared not gonna lie lol.. it's all found footage type stuff so if thats not your thing you might not like it.. however don't just not check it out. It truly is scary as shit and goes from being fun to fucked up in the most brutal of ways in an instant. FREAKY MOVIE!!

Slaughterhouse-Five (1972) ›› ( 8.0/10 )
Kurt Vonnegut is an author I'm pretty fond of, and while this film didn't exactly capture the meaningfulness of the novel it's based on it was still pretty damn good. I was unsure how the non-linear narrative structure would transition to the big screen, but it worked. A really nice film.

True Confessions (1981) ›› ( 6.6/10 )
I've been eyeing this one since it was added to netflix (I mean Robert Duvall + Robert De Niro in a hard boiled LA murder case, how could that not be awesome?) Well it wasn't as awesome as I had hoped, as less emphasis was put in the hard boiled crime part (I was looking for something like Chinatown out of this, which it was not) and more on the two brothers moral gray areas, with one being a cop (Duvall) and the other a prominent priest (De Niro). Still it was a solid film, and it seems like a lot of the ideas for this film got jacked by Rockstar for LA Noire....
