Some parts were okay, but I can't forgive the use of crappy CGI zombies.

At first I had seen the movie before I read the book so I thought the movie was actually good. But then once I read the book and saw how badely the movie butchered the book I was actually a little pissed. Such a great book and the movie didnt even come close to hitting the mark.

It's not scientific unless you can “measure” it, which Freud, Jung, and the other psychoanalysists couldn't really do. Doesn't mean their work is invalid or unimportant. Just a side effect of it being the way it is. But I'd agree about fantasy. Things are just because they are. They don't really go into why people believe the things they do.

Not entirely true anymore. While there is still some of what they proposed that hasn't been tested (mainly due to current ethical standards and of course some of it would be impossible anyways) a lot of their work has been tested. Of course a lot of it was debunked by they still contributed in a lot of ways. They laid down the foundations for a lot of what we now research.

Sadly most Sci-fi is just like fantasy, sci-fo for sci-fi's sake. There are a few really great sci-fi authors though, ones who get it, or got it I should say since most of them are dead. lol.

Some things you can't measure, while you are right most sciences would frown on that there is a science to the mind it's just much more complicated, it's really more of an art. That being said, I would still argue it's a science, but this isn't the thread for that lmao.

The lack of any real psychology in most fantasy is what pushes me away from it, as I started. From what I usually see people write in those settings just because it's 'fun' or whatever, which in my book isn't really 'writing' it's just crap books for the purpose of making some quick scratch. Just like how popular music is crap music for making quick scratch, and movies.. etc.

Well, there is some debate in that area about what is and isn't scientific. I would argue that it is, but that really doesn't have much to do with it's correlation to mythology and religion which is clear and present. That's where I think a lot of fantasy gets it wrong, it's mythology for mythologys sake, with little development of that psychological connection.

I haven't read Jung (or much of the actual works of any psychologist for that matter), but I know him and what he's about. And while I love his ideas and find the whole field of psychoanalysis/psychotherapy very interesting, it's very theoretical and not quite scientific (despite it being revolutionary for the time). Which that's what I think of when I think of psychology. So, that's why I was sort of confused when you said that.

Well the core of mythology is the human psyche, it all comes from the sub-consious mind of early man. It's important that mythology and psycholgy be linked. You should read some Jung.
