While many Zoids RPGs on MSN Groups enjoyed success in the early 2000s, very few managed the prolonged success attained by Zoid Battles Online. Created in 2002 by Aurora Borealis, ZBO spent the next three years in both the Zoids and RPGs toplists. Over its 5 year lifespan, ZBO saw many revisions, survived two staff coups, and helped set the standard for MSN Groups Zoids RPGs.

Zoids: Battle Legacy ~ (Years Active: 2001-2004)

In 2002 and 2003 aside from Dragon Ball Z, Zoids was probably the most popular genre of RPG out there and Zoids: Battle Legacy is probably the most important of those proto Zoids RPGs. As an important early RPG ZBL shaped what most all Zoids RPG after it would be like, as well as countless other RPGs. It should also be noted that ZBL was one of the early sites pioneering layouts on MSN Groups which would start a culture of designing in the community. ZBL was also one of the most active groups of it's time.
