Journey Into The Past |
|
|
Alucard continued to walk slowly towards the man his arms still out by his side, “Thats great! That bosses are going to love we have such a hard worker keeping guard here.” Alucard noticed the guards nervousness and hoped his sense of confidence would atleast distract the guard for just a little longer as he got closer.
His eyes constantly looking at his gun, while his reflective glasses stared right into the guard's eyes. “Jonas, we're going to have to make sure we report how well this man took his job. Oh I didn't get your name. Mine's Alucard.” Alucard stuck his hand out to shake the man's hand. Hoping he could get his hands close enough to leap and disarm the man's gun.

There were a few moments where the sounds of gunshots from above seemed to lessen while Alucard approached the guard, attempting to talk down his nervousness. Jonas felt himself on edge, the only thing keeping him from rapidly pulling his Graders from their concealment the presence of the two women who stood a few meters back, behind them.
” I… I can't let you through! Please step back! ” The guard stumbled through his words before pushing as much confidence as he could at the end, raising his assault rifle up to point towards Alucard as he took a few quivering steps back onto the connecting platform. Jonas felt his hands moving with swift reflex but before he could even palm the grips of his Graders he felt the swift movement of air swooshing past as the massive iron claw tore through the air striking the guard directly in the chest and sending him tumbling backwards with a thud on the connecting walkway. Jonas swiftly shot his head around to Milly, who stood tall with her massive stun-gun pointed ahead, silent but knowing that she had adverted disaster.
” I guess we should move. ” Jonas said matter-of-factly, respecting this woman's judgement as he started quickly forward blowing past Alucard across the connecting bridge onto the mid-level platform of the main reactor. Jonas took a slight moment as the others caught up to look upward at the sight above them, sensing they would reach the summit quickly now. Ahead of him a clearly marked industrial elevator stood unguarded that would take them to the top. Jonas said nothing as he walked towards the platform, waiting for the others to follow. |

Alucard jerked to the side reflexively as the metal claw came flying past him. The claw had already missed and past him, but the shock sent him moving. He watched as the guard went down from the stun-gun's projectile. Alucard looked back as Milly began to walk forward towards the connecting way.
Alucard smiled towards Milly then shrugged as he looked over at Jonas, “Looks like you were worried for nothing.” He turned back towards the connecting walkway and continued forward behind Milly. 'Guess these women have been follow Vash for a reason.' Alucard thought to himself.

There was a jolt as the elevator started upward, Jonas braced himself against the wall as he rocked, his mind afire with thoughts about what they would find at the top. He could still hear the muffled sounds of gunfire, even inside the steel box that carried him upward. He sensed the unease from Milly and Meryl, but also had grown confident in their ability to take care of themselves, he wouldn't have to protect them when the doors opened.
” I… Everyone should be ready for the worst, it sounds like we're walking right into the middle of it. ” Jonas said as he calmly reached both hands, criss-crossed into his jacket, pulling both Graders from their holsters, feeling the weight in his hands as he relaxed them by his side. ” We should act separately when the doors open, Alucard and I, and you two. After all we have each been traveling with the other for awhile and know how to move. Alucard and I will go right, and move in towards the apex of the conflict as quickly as possible, you two should hang back, help when you can, and secure our exit. If Vash is up here we'll get him. ” Jonas assured as the elevator started to slow before coming to a halt. The doors opened and with an explosion of sound, the battlefield was in front of them.

Alucard could feel the anticipation in the air around him. With each moment as they climbed, he could feel the pull becoming stronger and stronger. He even deafened the sound of gunfire until that was broken by Jonas's voice.
Alucard nodded in agreement to Jonas's plan. He let his twin katars drop from the inside of the coat sleeves as he braced himself for the door to open. “Don't leave yourselves more exposed then you need to.” Alucard took a breath as he listened to the gunfire, “Sounds like we'll need a clear exit after all of this.”

| |
The polished steel elevator doors opened with the metal against metal squeak of and old, unoiled machine. The explosive sounds of gunfire hit them instantly as Jonas, without hesitation started forward as quickly as he could, moving across the metal walkway directly ahead to what as far as he could tell was some kind of console, but more importantly it was cover. Jonas slid down low, ducking his body behind the width of the control console, taking in a few deep breaths before peeking up to take in the area as a whole.
” I… Oh god! It's a bloodbath! ” Jonas could hear Meryl scream out behind him, just as his eyes crested the top of the console.
The center area was large, seemingly about forty by forty feet, and held four tall metallic boxes with multitudes of wires and lights on all of them. On either side of the main platform stairs led down a few feet to what looked like two viewing platforms, you could really see all of Augusta from this height. Directly ahead another set of stairs led upwards to what appeared to be the main control platform for this area where behind it the docked ship loomed, a causeway barely visible from their standpoint connecting the ship to the top of the reactor spire. Jonas spotted several fallen guards, their crimson red blood pooling on the mat metallic floor panels. As he scanned the center area he saw the whipping leather coat slide from behind one of the four metal boxes, the silver shimmer of his massive handgun causing the rays of the dual suns to dance across it as Vash the Stampede leaned out and with more concussive bangs fired another volley of shots up at the main control platform. Jonas's eyes followed the slugs where he saw another familiar coat, leather the same, but this one white as the whitest sand, it was Legato Bluesummers.
” Ah shit, not this again. ” Jonas mumbled, remembering their encounter with this fiend and that colossus Grey the Ninelives aboard the sand steamer some weeks before. |

Legato stood tall, his indigo blue hair whipping in the wind as he casually slid to his right out of the path of Vash's volley of shots. His eyes moved rapidly from Vash to the elevator, a smug smirk forming on his face as he saw Alucard and the others.
” Ah, he's finally arrived. ” Legato's voice was calm, cool. ” But of course he brought some vermin along with him… Expected I guess. ” Legato continued, referring to Jonas and the girls. A slight tinge of annoyance in his tone as he spoke. ” We'll deal with them short enough, no? ” He had shifted his focus back to Vash, a glimmer of humor in his eye. |

|
Alucard moved alongside Jonas as soon as the elevator doors opened and slide into place right beside Jonas under the console. Careful to keep his drawn katars far from their of their legs. Meryl's scream onfirmed the carnage that Alucard had seen as he dashed to find cover. Alucard looked from over the console and saw Vash let loose a volley of guns towards the man from the steamer. His katars retracted back into his coat as he grew cautious to this man.
When last they encountered him, he had vanished without seemingly a trace. Alucard's hands went into his coat to grab his jackal and his grader. He raised both up towards Legato, Alucard's glasses reflecting back towards him, “Guess we're just in time then. Only wish I knew for what.”

Vash was reloading and things had suddenly become quiet, enough so that Legato found time to ramble off a few deviant lines to himself and the others, though they didn't make much sense to Jonas.
” Seems like he already killed off all the guards, and he doesn't look like he's trying to press forward. ” Jonas said to Alucard as he peaked out of the right side of his cover, looking up the distant stairwell to where Legato Bluesummers stood behind the cover of the taller main console, seemingly unbothered by Vash's attacks.
Behind them the girls were moving quickly, doing what had been discucssed on the elevator, moving in briefly behind the cover of the center console where Jonas and Alucard were positioned before turning to the left and moving behind one of the taller metallic spires. Jonas shot a look at Alucard before doing the same, except heading right and sliding quickly in behind the tall metallic structure.
” I guess we should try to flank this weirdo and hopefully our combined effort will be enough. ” Jonas said, adding up their numbers on the board but still wondering what Legato's true goal might be. |

Legato was unbothered, and knew that as much as Vash was firing at him, he wasn't trying to mortally wound him, in fact he would go out of his way not to do so. The others though, he was sure that wouldn't be the case, but everything was going as planned and it was time to stall.
” Well then, as expecting Vash, our guests are less adverse to the idea of killing me as you. Perhaps we should do something about that? ” Legato let out a small chuckle after he spoke as whipped his arms out in a theatric gesture, whipping the cloak of his coat outward as he did so. Sounds of movement started to stir around him as the blooded and mangled corpses of the fallen guards began to shift and move on the metallic ground, twisting themselves until the could start to slowly stand, weapons in hand. ” This should be fun. ” Legato said calmly as he stepped back towards the causeway behind him. |

Alucard stared in horror as the dead guards rose to their feet, machine guns in hand. “I really hope he only seemed to have killed those guards” Alucard said as he looked back over to Jonas. His hands came out of his coat at the same time as he said that. Not hesistating for a moment to try to find out which was the truth. Either his weapons took them down, or…well he didn't want to think about an or.
Bullets came out from his guns towards the guards nearest the stairs leading to Legato with one striking true through the reanimated guard's torso.

Jonas was startled as the corpses of the fallen guards twisted and contorted themselves upwards into a slow shifting lurch as they attemped to move into sight lines. He watched as Alucard's hands shot with lightning fast speed into his crimson red coat and without hesitation returned with firearms in hand exploding a volley of shots right down the center of the platform towards the center guard. The corpse seemed unfazed by the attack and continued to move forward.
” I… Can we even kill them? ” Jonas shouted over Alucard's gunfire as he positioned himself to the right looking down on the lower platform where two other corpses had also risen and started towards the center. Both Grader's in hand, Jonas firmly leaned out of cover and with a steady aim started firing at the closet of the two guards, closely watching as two of his rounds tore into the torso of the corpse with little effect.
” Yeah this isn't good at all. ” Jonas mumbled, to himself as he leaned back behind cover. |

Vash watched in horror as the fallen security guard rose up in front of him, the expression on his face that of death. He knew deep down that this was a trick, this man had already died. His senses were flaring all around, the two woman were behind him at the top of the stairs screaming in their own horror.
” Move back into cover NOW! ” Vash yelled at Milly and Meryl before leaping towards them, putting his own body between the girls and the corpses, squeezing the trigger of his gun at the nearest of the shifting zombies with surpreme accuracy, striking the chamber of it's assault rifle which let out a misfire explosion in the guards hands, the weapon would be useless. |

Alucard stared down at his guns in disbelief before looking back up at the moving corpses. His guns had gotten him out of a lot of difficult situations, but that was against the living. “Yea…doesn't seem like these will work.” Alucard moved his guns back into his coat as he jumped over the console in front of him.
Alucard's dual katars dropped from inside his coat as he ran towards the guard he had just fired upon. His arms came forward as he arc, slashing the moving corpse hoping to stop it's movement.

The double suns of Gunsmoke loomed high in the sky above the wreckage of the SEEDS ship that now served as the lifeforce of Augusta. The rays reflected from the polished metal platform and danced in along the twists and turns of mechanical pipes and tubing which Jonas was using as cover. He looked over to Alucard who had put his guns away as swiftly as he had drawn them in the first place and with unnatural speed vaulted he console and closed the distance between himself and the guard with a couple sweeping arcs of his blades, a spray of crimson, and a thump as the guard fell.
” Seems like that might work though.. dunno where that leaves me? ” Jonas said, mostly to himself after witnessing Alucard's full on offensive.
” These will have to do for now. ” Jonas continued as he held both Graders up so he could admire them, the mat gunmetal finish, before leaning out from cover, squaring the same animated security guard in his sights and squeezing off another volley of fire. The .45 cut through the hot air with blazing speed tearing into the torso of the closest guard. Jonas watched, noticing an odd metallic gleam leap from the guard as he fell back to the metallic floor, as if his bullet had struck something else. |

A slow glowing smirk twisted it's way across Legato's face as he watched on from the connecting bridge that joined the top of the SEEDS wreckage to the ARK. Everything was unfolding like he said it would, soon things would bloom.
” Isn't this FUN! ” Legato Bluesummers shouted over the sound of gunfire as guards fell out on the maintenance platform in front of him. With seemingly choreographed movement the two remaining armed guards all turned their assault rifles towards Alucard who stood unshielded in the middle of the platform and with an explosion of gunfire began to unload on him.” This should be fun. ” Legato said calmly as he stepped back towards the causeway behind him. |

Alucard wipes the blood from his katars as he stared towards Legato, his eyes hidden behind the reflective nature of his glasses. He did not move as Legato put on his show and the bullets hit his armor padding. “If you want this to be fun…you'll need to try a lot harder than that.” Alucard said before sprinting towards the guard at the top.
His body moved as one as he closed in on his target. Each katar moved into place where his leg had been previously almost daring himself to mess up and allow them to cut him. As he neared the stairs, he dove forward the drove both katars deep into the animated corpses body.

Vash's eyes were active, watching the moves that Jonas and Alucard made, as well as darting after to Legato, his mind turning over trying to figure out exactly what was going on. When Jonas' stray bullet struck “something” near the guard he had downed it all became clear, he had seen the gossamer thread snap with a twisting flash of sunlight and the security guard had instantly fallen. Vash squinted his eyes narrowing his vision, looking for the glimmer of Gumsmoke's sunlight on the threads that connected the guards to Legato.
” We have to focus on that beast! ” Vash suddenly broke his silence, sensing Alucard's movement as he rushed by, down the metal stairs onto the north platform, his blades slicing as they had before and downing the solo guard. Vash didn't look north, instead taking a couple steps forward, exposing himself from cover as he sighted the lone remaining guard and with a sure burst of gunfire snapped the wire connecting the corpse to Legato. |

Jonas watched Alucard move north, down the railed stairs onto the northern viewing platform, his katar blades dancing in the sunlight of Gunsmoke's dual suns. He knew the outcome before it had occurred and had already shifted his vision to the last remaining security guard, raising his two grader's up and steading his aim when Vash's shots rung out and struck true downing the guard. This only left one target, the one behind it all.
” I guess we need to take it to this asshole then. ” Jonas said, mostly to himself after witnessing Alucard's full on offensive.” These will have to do for now. ” Jonas responded to Vash as he changed his focus, squeezing the triggers quickly before Legato could move. |

Alucard removed his katars from the corpse that now laid motionless. He swung his blades by his side, removing much of the blood from the blades. He moved back towards the center platform and looked towards Vash then Jonas, “Let's take down this guy.” Alucard ran forward and slide behind the counter between the party and Legato. Alucard moved towards the corner waiting to see what Legato had left in mind for them. After reanimating the dead, he didn't want to take anything for chance.
