Slipping his jackal back into his coat, Alucard scratched his head as he looked around the bridge. Checking each console hoping to find a sign of how to stop this thing. Giving a quick look over at Valentino, Alucard glared then looked back at the consoles, “Whos this Knives and what exactly is he capable of?” Alucard and Jonas needed as much information if they were going to survive on this steamer.

Chapter VI ~ Beasts of Burden
A bead of sweat subtly rolled down the curvature of Vash's cheek, taking a final breath of air before holding steady as the three of them stared towards the opening door. With the reveal of seemingly nothing the sense of dread did not fade as they walked into the bridge, surveying what was before them. Vash began to move forwards towards the controls as Alucard asked about his brother. ” Someone you don't want to meet ” Vash said sternly as his optics focused in onto the panel before him, his arms stretching out and fingers beginning to tap over the keys. Grids and numbers began flashing on the screen as he began searching the machines database. Along with stopping it he wanted to see if there was anyway to figure out just what happened while they were asleep.
The pervasive silence of the bridge was unnerving, sending a chill down Jonas' spine as his eyes moved about the large room. Jonas watched as Valentino moved towards the central console, his fingers moving with purpose as he tried to find out something, anything about what was happening and had happened in the past several hours. ” Any luck? ” Jonas asked as he moved closer to Valentino, looking over his shoulder at the console, watching the man work quickly with the buttons and knobs, seeing that he had some experience with the technology at hand. ” Seems you know your way aroun— ” He had begun to comment when a large red light on the console suddenly began flashing drawing is attention. His eyes read the strip of text printed below the light causing a sinking feeling in his stomach, it read “reactor condition critical”. Jonas instinctively pointed towards the light, though he was sure the others had surely spotted it already. ” That doesn't sound good. ” He said in a dry tone, feeling the weight of the situation growing.

Glaring towards Valentino, annoyed that he continued to avoid Alucard's questions. The fact that Valentino also knew how to work the consoles added more to the mystery of this man. “Now now-” Alucard was about to added more questions that he guessed would be avoided until he saw the red light. “What can we do?” Alucard needed to rely on this man. Unconsciously, Alucard glanced at Jonas quickly. Hoping Valentino knew a way to fix this without Alucard needing to reveal what he really was.

Chapter VI ~ Beasts of Burden
The screen glared off his optics, the waves of texts and lights flashing by as the pace of his fingers remained steady yet quick. He could feel the questions rising from the two men as he displayed his knowledge of the mechanics but he had little choice. The readings were apparent even before the alert went off, the entire screen now blowing up in red. His fingers paused and he sighed as Jonas and Alucard looked to him for an answer. Why did he always get himself into these situations. ” I need to get down to the reactor right away ” he instructed to them as he swiveled around the pair and began to jog towards the doorway. His eyes glanced over towards the map panel for a quick once over to make sure he was taking the right route.
Jonas caught Alucard's unconscious glance, their eyes meeting for milliseconds, enough time for the foreboding sense of worry to transmit between the two. Valentino was moving quickly, seemingly transforming in front of their eyes over the past several minutes from a no-good fool into someone that seemed in control of this moment in their collective lives, Jonas' intuition about the man had been right and he suspected soon it would all be out in the open. Before he could react Valentino was on the move, spouting his need to go to the reactor, and with a slight detour to look at the map he was gone, as if the very wind had carried him away. ” I don't like this, at all. ” Jonas uttered, his eyes darting back towards Alucard. ” We need to stay with him, come on. ” Jonas continued as he moved towards the doorway, his mind attempting to unravel the mysteries that were laid out in front of him. Ahead he watched Valentino move like spectre in the dimness of the corridor, quickly arriving at the doorway to the nearby plant reactor, the power source of this massive steamer, the same type of power that provided for everyone on Gunsmoke. ” Valentino wait! ” Jonas found himself shouting out, as he neared the door to the planet reactor, moving quickly now as he tried to catch him, knowing that somehow danger lay beyond that threshold.

Alucard had hoped that this steamer trip would have been uneventful, but if he had gone off his past experience he would have known that wouldn't be the case. For some time now, Alucard had been bouncing from one eventful experience to another with very little peace inbetween. Though Alucard enjoyed this to some degree. If he had to live for such a long time, he would like it to be eventful. Following behind Jonas and Valentino, Alucard preferred to take the rear guard. Valentino seemed harmless enough in the beginning, but the main behind the veil seemed to be coming out more and more as events unfolded. “Did you use to be a plant engineer?” Working with the reactor would be no easy task and is a reason why plant engineers are sought after. Funny, Alucard and Jonas were on this steamer due to a plant engineer.

Chapter VI ~ Beasts of Burden
All that was on Vash's mind at this moment was stopping this reactor from going up in flames. He didn't know who was left alive on board if any, but he wasn't about to chance risking anymore lives today. The clanking of his boots along the floor echoed through the halls as they passed doors and hanging machinery. With a quick swipe through a narrow walkway Vash could see the entryway to the reactor top level, Jonas and Alucard in his rear. With Jonas' warning Vash slid to a hault just in front of the door, his hand steadying on the handle as he waited for the two to join him. ” You could say that I guess, but right now we have to stop this thing from destroying everything around here us included ” Vash said as he tightened his grip and pulled the door fully open, rushing inside with his weapon ready.
Jonas could fully feel the weight of the situation settling on his shoulders as Valentino slid the door open revealing the walkway that would lead past a unmanned work station, down a flight of metallic stairs towards the central reactor area. The reactor station itself was big, much bigger than Jonas had expected upon entering, his gaze settling ove the side of the railing which looked down on the second floor platform and past towards the first floor far below. He only then realized the amount of energy one of these steamers needed to operate. As he neared the stairway down he could deel the vibration of the Plant reactor directly below them, sending waves through the walkway. Intuition told Jonas things were not as they seemed, and unconsciously he reached into his jacket and unclasped both shoulder holsters before he started to descend. ” I was wondering we you would arrive, Vash the Stampede. ” A menacing voice held Jonas in his tracks, his eyes searching the main work area below for it's source. ” He's been looking for you all these years you know. ” The voice continued, as Jonas searched the darkness for shadows. ” I hope you feel like playing. We never did get to finish our game. ” His tone was playful, taunting even as Jonas caught the faint sight of movement in the back of the platform below them, the flair of a white coat moving in the shadows. ” Wha..what is this? ” Jonas said as he looked onto Valentino and it finally clicked in his mind. ” You're him. The Humanoid Typhoon. ” Jonas uttered, disbelief present though all of the inconsistencies added up, it all made sense.

Alucard reached for his Jackal instinctively as he heard the voice pierce through his body, searching as he could for the source of the voice. As the indentity of Valentino was revealed, Alucard knew now what that feeling was hidden below his surface was. It had been many years since Alucard had travelled with Vash, a part of him hoping it would never happen again, “I see you still have the same great group of friends, Vash.” Alucard looked to Jonas with a shrug, “Sorry I didn't recongize him sooner, it's been a few years since we last met.” Even though Alucard had just met Jonas, the battle against the bandits he caused Alucard to trust him and as such wish to be upfront with him. Either way, Alucard knew they'd be up against some wierdo now that Vash was here, “Vash, do you recognize who that is or how they managed to kill everyone?”

The three of them slowly paced into the door, his skin tingling as the very vibrations of the plant reactor began to echo throughout his body. A sudden sensation of warmth bagan to fill him; thoughts of being aboard project SEEDS started to enter his mind. The crew.. Rem.. then an all too familiar voice pinned through his ears and his senses became locked. ” Legato.. ” Vash sputtered out as he gritted his teeth in anger. The commotion between Jonas and Alucard turned his head back to them as they now fully understood the situation they were in. ” Yeah I guess you can just call me Vash from now on ” he said with a deep breath, his focus still on the reactor but now Legato aswell. He would have to hold back his rage at the murderous being for now and find a way to stop the reactor before anyone else was lost today. ” Uhh.. yeahh.. sure ” he replied to Alucard with a bit of a jitter, a half smile as he didn't really recognize him from before; it wouldn't be the first time thats happened to Vash though so he went with it. He certainly seemed aware of his usual predicaments. ” His name is Legato Bluesummers, and he is extremely dangerous.. he works for Knives.. ” ending his explanation by striking down the hammer of his colt.
Legato moved deliberately through the darkness, his amble seemingly choreographed and calculated. His subtle walk brought him to the edge of the darkness time and time again. Light would glance him briefly as he pranced, his footsteps light for a man of such stature. It would catch the gleam of his canines as he smirked and the rich blue of his eyes which were fixated on Vash, and then he would vanish again into the depths of unknown. ” Come now Vash, I do much more than work for Knives. We both know that. ” His voice was playful, he knew he was in control. ” You don't want to continue our game? ” He feigned disappointment with his tone, releasing a lengthy sigh. ” But you know our game has already begun, it's to late to back out NOW. ” Legato emphasized as he leaned into the light, his wide cobalt eyes piercing through the gulf that separated them, a tortured smile carving itself across his face and then he was gone, enveloped in darkness and quiet, as if he had not been there at all.
Jonas was struck motionless by the man—by his aura—he had not encountered anything so downright malevolent in his entire life, he felt as though ice water was pulsing through his veins. As quickly as it had all begun Jonas suddenly found they were alone again, seemingly. No sounds from below filtered their way into Jonas' ears, it was as if Legato had never been there at all. He slowly became aware of the steady hum of the Plant reactor, returning to prominence. His eyes had slowly shifted from the work area below, from the creature that had occupied it, back to his newfound allies. He felt the need for answers but he knew there were none to be had. Looking past Alucard onto the figure revealed as Vash the Stampede he came to realize that no matter what he was now tied to this man, he could not run from what lie ahead. ” Why do I feel like everything is about to get wors— ” His thought was prophetic as a massive explosion rocked the entire steamer, it's flames pushing through the dense steel wall below sending a wave of shrapnel flying around him. Jonas instinctively dove to the metallic catwalk, his head sinking into his arms as the razor sharp metal flew around him. The acidic tinge of smoke coated the inside of his nostrils and mouth as he took a deep breath and uncovered his face. Lights flickered on and off, though an ever present red hue now dimly illuminated everything around them. The size of the Plant reactor was shocking to Jonas, as he could now see deeper into the recesses that were shrouded in darkness before. The gleam of light reflecting on curved glass caught his eye, the silhouette of an alien figure cast in the crimson light. Jonas knew this was the reactor itself, though dark, it's power being channeled elsewhere. Before he could truely fixate The rhythmic vibrations of massive steps rumbled around him shaking the catwalk. They were coming closer and whatever it was it was big.

All Alucard could think of was that the sand steamer should have been the easy part of their journey, but staring at Legato, Alucard thought otherwise. His jackal stayed by his side, something told Alucard that even if he tried to shoot that Legato wouldn't allow himself to be hit. Alucard had forgotten how fearsome Vash's enemies could be, but what did he mean by game. Alucard couldn't help, but think that things weren't any better even after Legato seemed to disappear.
Alucard thoughts were proven right the catwalk began to vibrate. Looking towards the reactor then to Vash, Alucard knew they had to fix it quickly before whatever was coming was on them. “Quick, we need to fix whatever is wrong with the reactor before our other guest gets here.” Moving with urgency and bathed in the red light, Alucard made his was towards the reactor, looking at the plant within.

Chapter VI ~ Beasts of Burden
The beads of his eyes began to shake slightly as Legato drew closer and closer, his voice pinning in and out of his head as the light veiled over the purple haired man. The smile that arose from Legato would continue to boil Vash's blood. ” Lives are not a game! ” Vash would shout out as the light dropped and the man seemingly vanished. His teeth would grind as more thoughts of the lives that had ceased because of his brothers influence; mainly that of his loyal servant Legato. Before he could react any furthure a the walkway began to vibrate before a flurry of smoke and debree rained in on them, his arms quickly throwing themselves up to cover his face from any of the wreckage. With a slight stumble he would plant his right foot down and steady himself before moving himself forward along with Alucard. “ If I can just get in a little closer ” he said as he bent himself around pipes and fallen railings.
The rolling smoke took on the red hue of the emergency lights as it bellowed from the exposed and broken piping that had been destroyed in the explosion. The smoke drifted in like a fog, slowly enveloping everything nearby in a cloud of refracted crimson. The footsteps loomed larger, their vibrations out of sync with the hum of the Plant reactor. The creature grunted, his low guttural tone was uncivilized, untamed. He entered slowly, his hulking mass of a figure protruding from the dense vapor, the low red light casting him in devilish tones. Gray stood tall—at least ten feet—his muscles bulging through the dark browned leather wrappings that covered him. ” Vash! ” Gray exhaled, his timbre low enough to shake the strongest man, as he surveyed the expanse ahead of him that was the main floor of the Plant reactor, seeking any movement. ” I see you. ” His words were short and to the point, as his veiled eyes tracked the movements of both Alucard and Vash.
Jonas felt his very core shake as the hulking beast entered the reactor room on the level below. Jonas looked down on the foe that now stood in their way and understood the reported destruction that followed Vash the Stampede—with enemies like this on his tail how could destruction not follow? His hands had quickly moved inside his coat freeing both Grader's from their holsters with ease. For the briefest moments he wondered if they would have would it takes to fight such a monster, but Jonas shook this feeling away reminding himself that they countered a monster on their team as well, the Humanoid Typhoon himself. ” Guys, you two might want to move the reactor down our list of priorities! ” Jonas shouted down to them from the catwalk as he leveled both of his handguns and with a quick impulse squeezed both triggers in quick succession. The sound of gunfire was cacophonous in the tall vaulted triple story chamber that was the reactor station, Jonas' eyes locked onto the colossal foe below him, watching to see if his rounds would strike thier target.

Alucard's hands went in the air then fell to his sides in utter shock. “You gotta be kidding me.” It had been some time since Alucard and Vash had travelled together, but his enemies sure didn't get anymore normal. Alucard's left hand reached into his jacket and grabbed his grader. Raising both guns towards the giant, Alucard unleashed a barrage of bullets knowing this was an enemy looking for a fight.
With the vibrations increasing and yet another jump in the ships brakes, Vash's balance was thrown off and his body jarred forward. His arm reached out and his hand steaded himself along a pipe, only a second later his voice ranged out with a scream. ” AhGhHHhhH ” he screeched out, grabbing his hand and dangling it about in the air. With tears coming out of his eyes he took deep breaths and blew onto his palm. The oncoming vibrations and the low grunting of a new threat would force Vash to stop dead in his tracks, his mouth hanging open and his teary eyes wide in terror. ” How do all these people know meee!!? ” he screamed out yet again. Shots then began to rain out from behind him, his body instinctively rolling to the side. Vash knew this thing could take a punishment and so he too raised his long colt; his finger squeezed down on the trigger with three quick motions letting loose half of his clip upon the behemoth. 'Guess hes right' referring to Jonas' statement moments prior. He then ripped around back to face Alucard and Jonas, his arm popping and shifting as if a lock was being turned. It then unfolded to reveal a barrel and a shower of bullets to rain down along Gray as he ran back to his comrades.

The rounds ripped through his flesh as the monstrous Gray the Ninelives instictively pulled his massive arms up to shield his body from as much of the gun fire as possible. He let out a low rumble of anger as the three men around him scrambled, his crooked fanged teeth exposed in an expression of grotesque horror. ” You all die! ” Gray exclaimed as the nature of his hands became apparent in the low red light, each encased in a massive steel orb which could be used not only to bludgeon but also each sported a machine gun and grenade launcher. ” DIE! ” Gray's words were guttural, and dripping with anger. The creature had moved his arms away from his body, his right hand pointing towards the cluster of enemies when from it exploded a grenade which arced across the reactor station and hit the steel floor with a metallic ting as it rolled close to the bottom of the stairway exploding with great force between both Jonas and the group of Vash and Alucard.
— OOC Talk: Gray doesn't dodge any of the attacks. Each character will take 16 damage unless successfully dodged. Dodging will require a non-bullet dodge technique, as this is a more spread out attack.
