Topic to discuss networking ideas and list initial targets to pursue for networking.

We need to break down how the network is going to operate, etc here. Just general ideas about how we list the RPGs, how we navigate them, what fields we use in the database, etc. Any ideas?
Visually I was thinking we'd do something close to the directory as it is now, just with more information. As for how it functions I thought instead of having a form with drop downs to sort them we could just do a nav on the right where the directory stats are now. One div for each genre with maybe the number of RPGs in that genre listed there as well. Then simple pagination to sort from there. Perhaps we can feature one RPG per gerne page every week or bi-weekly or something to appear at the top of the list no matter what?
As for fields there are the important ones (name, button, url, description, genre) but what else should we keep track of? We want this directory to be a good place for RPers to find RPs after all.

Visually, I do like how the Directory is currently setup and do believe it will be a good basis for the Networking area. I don't like the idea of getting rid of sorting at the top of the Networking area like the Directory currently has, reason being is that it is an option that the members would have and if that option can be provided, then why not?
However, I also like the idea having the RPG Genres on the right side with the number of RPGS within each genre listed as well.
As for fields:
- Name
- Button
- URL
- Description
- Genre
- Member Count
- Weekly Activity Level
- Awards
- Date Opened
- Friends: This is a feature that would be cool to add later on. First, people would have to be able to “friend” people on Dystopia Pro, then in the RPG Directory, if any of your “friends” are members of an RPG, it could list them.

I don't think we can actually track and members or activity, these are RPGs hosted off site and just listed with us. It would require someone manually updating that kind of info.

Yeah, I was thinking more for the groups that get hosted here. I guess it would depend on how easy/difficult we could verify that information to update it in the network. Activity and member count though, in my opinion, is something that is important to prospective members, you don't want to go somewhere that's dead or has no activity.

I mean, most cases they can just pop on the forums and look. We can't really track that, it's one thing on site (I can access all our forum databases with scripts and render that info) it's another for a network. As for our hosted RPGs, I intend to have a separate directory for them with more info, like what our homepage is now, or perhaps even closer to the CPN directory (depending on how many we actually host.) My thoughts on that are, we should be somewhat selective about what we host here, CPN didn't work and simply hosting whatever will just end up in a bunch of empty groups.

Network Tag Ideas
› Format: Free-Form, Statistical
› Canon: Canon, Non-Canon, Alternative Universe
› Word Count: None, Low, Medium, High
› Difficulty: Beginner, Adept, Advanced
No need to do genres, as that's how the listings will be broken up to begin with. Could also do forum software.

Update:
Made pretty good progress for the first day working on this. The database is in place, the basic directory render engine is in place (need to expand on this to include the pop up dialog with detailed information), and the sidebar navigation is in place. Should be able to have this entire section done within a few days.
