Yeahhh I don't think I'll be doing that. I can't realistically see myself sitting at my computer watching someone else play a game I want to play. As always in several years when the 3DS is cheap I'll likely contemplate picking one up, by then there may be more than one game I want to play on it as well.

New pokemonz? No thanks. As far as I'm concerned there are only 151 pokemon and it will always be that way.

There's only one guy I watch LP and it's youtube.com/veteran0121 I use to watch silent LPs, but now I only watch and listen to one LPer (and someone who doesn't paste their damn webcam over their footage either). I usually watch LP's of gams I've played before just for the surprise/anger of any difficulty spikes if it's a blind LP. Thinking more about XV's system, it does seem a slightly modified ADB. In XII, both X and Square could pause and bring up the Command menu. In XV, they said holding X initiates a series of chained actions based on the battle condition (and you could pause into a menu to modify this chain too). Based on what I've read, sounds exactly like XII's ADB except holding or tapping 'X' initiates a single or series of moves respectively while Square/Triangle pauses/freezes into an in-battle menu they previously mentioned.

I just can't see that being very fun. I was pretty unhappy with the FFXII “The game plays itself for you” system. What's so bad with turn based combat in a JRPG?

I don't mind it as I regularly replay V, VI, and CT. With the advances in hardware, they're able to do much more now – if they opt for a turn-based system, there needs to be an interesting twist/gimmick system in place. I see no reason hy they can't up the ante and provide a twist to turn-based.

I've been researching FF12 somre more, and I just realized that the reason why I had so much trouble with FF12 and got fucking pwnt so hard by a couple bosses (one stopping my progression all together and I stopped playing) was because I never used the damn gambit system properly. I only set up rudimentary commands and left it at that.

Yeah, it's a fairly simple if-then state system rreducing the monotony of selecting basic commands you shouldn't have to do (or would do). If know I'm going to use Echo Herbs or Esuna to remove Silence, then just do it. Actually pressing buttons and sifting through sub-menus for common obvious shit doesn't make me anymore strategically involved than the guy who is doing the former (unless it's a part of the mechanic itself).
And if you so chose, you could play it without ADB – (i.e. ATB style with enemies still hacking away at you). People say it might play itself, but you have to actually set up Gambits (there is no perfect Gambit setup however) in a very particular manner for most battles. You could make the same argument for any of the early FFs where you issue all your party's commands at once and watch it play out (no matter the order).
For every command issued in these types of FFs, there will most likely be a Gambit or turn you'd want to cancel/manually override in XII as well. Just to even the field here…

Well at any rate I hope you get to play it eventually Dys, because it has my favorite turn based combat system of all time, and I know you're a turn based fan.

I do enjoy some turn based combat. I'd have a hard time pinning down my favorite turn based system though.

Tabata cleared up the XV battle system yesterday in an extended presentation, and apparently this ATB version is called “AXB” (Active Cross Battle). The name is in agreement with Tabata's emphasis on field in the past interviews: a crossing of paths, whether friend or foe on the field, triggers some contextual element in the command menu.
Noctis being the only controllable character has been one of the lbigger (if not the biggest) issues I've read around.

I really really tried to like FFXII, it was a solid game but it never felt like Final Fantasy to me. I've been pretty vocal in saying that I always thought it was more like Vagrant Story 2 than it was Final Fantasy. I was really impressed with the world design, I will say that.

Indifferent towards this game until its release.
Yeah, as I said on another forum I'd be cautious of the combat fluidity and battle durations. Outside of that, I didn't find myself overhwlemed with joy or excitment by most things.

Yeah, the concept of it being open world is fine by my books, What gets me is the character design is horrible and the combat did not seem to be very fluid. When we see more than just this same environment my views might change.

They removed the video. I saw some screens of it yesterday though.

Apparently the demo is out now, with Type-0 HD (which I'd like to play actually)

The video is back up.
My Type 0 is supposed to arrive Monday. Really excited for both it and the demo.

I think I'm just gonna grab it for the psp, I'm not ready to grab a new console anytime soon, not enough reason to. I probably should have played it already, considering it's been released for the PSP since 2011. I saw some video of the demo though, I still don't know how I feel about it but the Behemoth bits looked pretty badass.
