Figured I'd start the first “Cinema” topic here with the latest film in the Bond series. I saw it on opening night. While not a huge Bond fan overall, I liked Casino Royale a lot and (kinda) liked Quantum of Solace. However, Skyfall was brilliant. Javier Bardem definitely stole the show. And technically, it was superb. The cinematography and lighting is beyond fantastic. I definitely recommend it to anyone.

Any thoughts from others?

I'd like to see it, although I'm still not a huge fan of Daniel Craig as bond. I felt Quantum of Solace was pretty awful, and while I attribute that fact to the writers strike a few years back and the fact that it was rushed into production with few rewrites, I still can't get past how bad it was. Casino Royale however was pretty good, definitely better than any of the Brosnen Bond films which are all pretty awful. Obviously the best are the originals, 61-70 era Bonds, pre-Roger Moore.

Best Bond = From Russia With Love. Skyfall needs to drop it's slogan, it cannot top that film.

It's pretty friggin' good. What do you dislike about Daniel Craig though?

He doesn't have the same charisma as Sean Connery, and he's no good at the humor. In the grand scheme of bonds I would rank him 4th out of 6 (or 7 if you cound David Nivens). He has the ability to jump a few spots, maybe if Skyfall is as good as you say and the next 3 movies he's sign on for are as well he could go as high as #2 (he can never achieve #1, sorry, just can't)

Also for the record my Bond rankings would go like so…

#1: Sean Connery ~ Obvious.
#2: Timothy Dalton ~ I know most people don't like his Bond and would put him near the bottom but having read many of the novels he comes the closet to the true Bond.
#3: George Lazenby ~ His one Bond flick is among the best of the series, It's a shame he didn't get more films.
#4: Daniel Craig ~ On the pure strength of Casino Royale, and apparent strength of Skyfall.
#5: Pierce Brosnan ~ None of his Bond flicks are very good, in fact his typecast non-Bond spy films are way better.
#6: Roger Moore ~ I seriously hate the mid-70s through mid-80s Bond films.

I would agree that he doesn't really do the humor aspect of it. However, I still think he's really solid for the role of actiony Bond. Even moreso after seeing Skyfall.

The humor is such a big part of Bond, that's why I can't put him any higher. He's got to get that aspect down to move up the list in my eyes.

Casino Royale had a little, but not much. And I'm not trying to defend QoS, but Bond was depressed/revenge-seeking in that one, so it wasn't appropriate there. However, he does employ it more in Skyfall, specifically in the first half. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Here's to hoping that's the case. At least I know it has to be better than Brosnan's best. lol.

I don't know if I've ever seen Goldeneye all they way through. However, I was pretty fond of Tomorrow Never Dies when I was a dumb kid.

Out of all of them Goldeneye is the best, but that's not saying a whole lot. It's bad when the video game is WAY better than the movie.
