Little was released game wise.. but as far as media functions are concerned, so far I am very interested! I'm diggin it over the ps4 so far.. now we just have to wait for the real showdown at E3. Either way though, what's everyone else thinkin?

I really wasn't impressed with it. I mean, first and foremost the fact that basically it installs every game from the disc to the HDD and then if you want to buy a used game you have to pay a fee to use that disc again is just plain bad. I know that they probably plan on this thing being digital release only by the end of this generation or the start of the next, but I just can see myself wanting to do things that way. The always on connection is a big issue as well, they are wordplaying that to make it sound like that's not what it is, but some single player games will even require internet connection to play them, I don't like that.

Aside from that, I mean not much else shown besides TV stuff and multimedia features which don't interest me that much in any console. Frankly I think the PS4 is going to come out stronger than this, Sony seems to have gotten their shit together this past year.

Functions and features aside, might be the dumbest name for a console to date.

Yeah, it is a pretty shitty name. Lmao.

Seriously though, they better be planning to aggresively market their games cause if they are thinking people are going to all buy new games or pay fees on top of used games they are crazy. I expect they are going to be trying to go the Steam route here, with sales and all that. Still, I think for a home console this is going to be a tough sell for people, there is a culture of buying and trading games out there, it's going to be tough for them at first.

Sony on the otherhand seemed to only gain steam from the Xbox announcement, their stock soared 8% the same day because the public reaction to the new Xbox was pretty lackluster. In the end I think Microsoft might be doing the right thing, I really expect all games to be digital only at some point, I think they might just be one generation early though, and it could cost them this time around, where next time they will be ahead of the curve.

Must be online once every 24 hours and has measures to obviate used games? Can't wait to see how this turns out.

All this sorta makes me glad I ditched console gaming for the most part.

Sony has a shot here to really take a huge lead in the next generation. They have all the hype right now, and they have the ability to make that hype even bigger as they haven't even short their console off yet. Sony also has made statements that the PS4 will not be a huge loss for them at launch like the PS3 was (the PS3 cost way more to manufacture then what they sold it for at launch), so it seems the ball is in their court and if they blow us away at E3 you have to give them props for turning everything around so fast.

I plan on owning both consoles regardless, so my interest in the xbox is mainly for the media stuff they have improved on. I was a bit excited in my opening statement about the xbox one, but you listing your points there john made me sink in my chair a bit lol. I knew of these things you listed prior but kinda forgot over the eagerness for the console. I still think it's fantastic, but Sony will indeed dominate this war. The ps4 looks great and the games that will be developed.. oh man I think it will be epic!

I think the one point nobody has touched on is how badly Nintendo has screwed themselves this generation. Regardless of the direction Microsoft is going they are going to sell consoles in the US, though I expect Sony will dominate even more than they did this past generation in all the overseas territories. However the Wii U seems to be dead on arrival, no interest at all.

The last sentence addresses the lack of any Wii U Discussion: DOA, no interest. There you go.

I'm just surpised Nintendo has fallen off so bad so quickly, I mean the Wii has sold 90 million units, how is it that they could ruin that goodwill so fast? They need to get some of their big gun franchises out on the Wii U and fast or they risk allowing Sony and Microsoft to launch, probably both in November, and grab hold of the console market instantly.

Xbox one will not require an extraneous monetary fee in order to play games purchased secondhand. Instead, the console will leverage its pathology of requiring a persistent Internet connection to perform periodic authentication checks on discs in the tray.

Each Blu-Ray disc for an Xbox One game is embedded with an encryption code thats read by the console. Xbox One installs a game, code-and-console information uploads to a Microsoft database, and the database checks in automatically from time to time to confirm that the game hasnt exchanged hands.

When it does when a disk being installed is used” — the game simply deauthenticates itself on the original owners console and conforms it to its new home. No additional fee will be part of the process. “

Yeah they finally released some details on that, since it sounded pretty horrid. Somehow they actually managed to strike a deal with Gamestop that when Gamestop sells a used Xbox One game, they get a cut from that. I guess by telling Gamestop “If you don't do this, none of the used games you sell will work” or something probably made the point. That's good at least, though I still don't like the sound of all of this and the fact that every game has to be tied to a username and all that. And the online requirements.

However I see this probably being favorable for hackers, I'm sure they'll find a way to edit those encryption codes so that all you have to do is rent a game, plug in a fake code or some shit and return it and poof no need to spend a day or two downloading 30-40gb to have a full game.

A little tidbit I read today. Microsoft blocked comments on their official YouTube channel because they were getting so much negative feedback. That is not a good sign, and silencing the users isn't going to make it any better for them.

I found that on some forum, I found it to be the best animated gif I've seen in years. I had to share.

Apparently Microsoft is removing the DRM and all other policies that has been putting Xbox in a negative light. Nothing has been confirmed yet just rumors for now.
