Chapter 2: The Road Less Traveled

Cloud's eyes lifted open, a cool refreshing breeze streaming through the opened window across from his bed. He breathed in, the freshness of the air giving him vitality as he pulled himself up, placing his bare feet on the cool hard wood floors of the Rocket Town inn. Cloud took a moment as he sat there, noticing that all of his allies had already awoken and left the room, probably each taking care of some business in town or just relaxing for the first time days.
” If only it could always be like this, I wouldn't have to worry about anything. ” Cloud said to himself, feeling better just to say it out loud, his most inner desire to just be at peace. ” I guess I should find everyone else, we can't stay here forever. ” Cloud finished, his mind drifting back to ShinRa and the events that had transpired the week before. Cloud's memory of the events before that night were still a haze, but the image of his only true friend lying dead was one that he would never be able to strike from his mind.
Sitting, Cloud leaned over, reaching under the bed. His hands clasped against is boots which he pulled out, unfolding his socks and putting them on before lacing the boots. Once tied the blonde man stood, turning to the window for one last moment before heading towards the door. The Rocket Town in was small, a one story building with a single room housing five beds, four of which had been populated by his group. Moving down the hallway Cloud thought how well decorated the place was, it was homey, it reminding him of his mother.
” The last one finally rises. ” A femine voice cut through the silence, her tone playful. Cloud turned to greet the inn keeper with a nod and a smile before taking a glance around the lobby, hoping to find one of his newly found friends.

OOC Talk:
It's been a week since the night we escaped Nibelheim. It took us a few days on foot to get to Rocket Town where we have now been two days. We'll keep the same order, though Saiyen will be joining us this chapter, he will post last.

Walking to Rocket Town was a tiresome, lengthy journy, but what choice did she have? Avelia had gotten so wrapped up in this mess that it would be silly to go it alone now. These people, her companions as she thought of them, had all experience the exact same thing and they were in it together. Besides, she enjoyed their company.
The Turk still worried her a little. Turks were still her biggest enemy and the main reason why she had joined Shinra in the first place. Still, Raiden did not seem like the others.
Researching Materia was what Avelia did best and she was always happily surprised to find it so commonly sold in shops and markets all over Gaia. She managed to pick up a nice, green Heal materia from the shop and would surely find it beneficial in keeping her allies alive and healthy. Once stocked up, she really had nothing much else to do, so decided to head back to the inn to see if Cloud had woken up yet.

As the sun rose, so did Tsuna. The former experiment didn't need much sleep and during their trek to the Rocket Town had taken much of to night watch, but not all. After his extended sleep, Tsuna did not want to sleep anymore this is body needed. Nibel had turned out to be quite the disappointment to him. It seemed Sephiroth had, had much of the fun there was with the Shinra SOLDIERS. Tsuna had heard the names a few times turning his forced sleep, but beyond that he didn't know much.

Tsuna moved away from the town and sat under some of the trees surrounding it. He laid his cane across his lap and held a die in left hand. Unlike the normal die he used to use his materia, this one was larger and had a green glow to it. The former experiment bounced it in his hand, but made sure it didn't spin and wasn't dropped on the ground. What had happened before he went to sleep? He didn't even remember them putting him to sleep. The last thing he remember was just another experiment using this die and then next moment he was awake.

With a scowl, Tsuna rose to his feet, putting the die in a deep pocket of his newly sewn suit and put his cane in his right hand. After being choosen for experimentation, Tsuna learned to not think too much on what he didn't know about the past. He thought only of the future where he could seek his revenge on the bastard that had changed him. He would use the powers they gave him to destroy them, that was his fate. Only the strong chose their own fate, and Shinra had made him strong.

Tsuna moved back towards the town, using his cane only for show. Shinra may have taken away his humanity, but they would not take away his class. It was the reason for the suit and cane. It was a way for him to feel like he was still a noble even after all they had done to him. The scientists guessed that was it, but allowed him to do so. It made him easier to control because otherwise he would resist. As the former experiment reached the town, he noticed Avelia walking back towards the inn. This group was the only company he had had for years besides those forced upon him, scientists and other experiments. He liked them, plus they all seemed to hate Shinra as well so it worked out. Avelia was also a proficient healer so while he had this weakened body she would surely come in handy, if only she could mend his suit as well. Tsuna shrugged at this thought, the inn keeper was a proficient seamstress and had even taught him to sew his own clothes and given him a needle and thread for a few extra chores, which he didn't mind doing.

Upon reaching the inn, Tsuna moved into the lobby and smiled, 'that's what friend's do right?' thought Tsuna, and bowed his body slightly to Avelia, “So, how long we staying here?” Tsuna looked to Cloud as he talked. Over the past week, he seemed to know the most about what was going on and had become the de facto leader of the group. Tsuna would become stir crazy soon enough if they didn't attack Shinra soon.

Raiden woke with an unexpected start, slipping from the bed and collapsing onto the wooden floor crumpled heap. Despite the sudden crash and the pain that came with it, the nightmare that interrupted his slumber was still horrifyingly vivid for him. “Fuck,” Raiden whispered with a hoarse voice, desperately making an effort to stand up even as the memories of his dream haunted his thoughts. “that was way too fuckin' real…” Raiden admitted to himself as he finally managed to gain his bearings and push the images from his dream out of mind.

It would have been pitch black in the room, were it not for the twilight sky and the weak morning light it brought with it. Given the time it was unlikely that the others were awake just yet, which left Raiden with little to do but equip his gear while contemplating what could be done to kill time. 'Might as well take a look around town,' he decided; it would be better to take a look around town than to just sit here doing nothing after all. The former turk made his way out of the inn, taking extra care in order to avoid waking anyone as he left.

Raiden merely stood a few steps out of the Inn's front door, enjoying the gentle breeze and the smell of morning dew. It wasn't anything special, but somehow it reminded him of back home in Mideel. All of the sudden he realized he felt much better, as if that haunting dream had never disturbed him in the first place. “Right then,” he announced with a devilish grin, walking into the heart of the small town while taking note of the surrounding area; there was no telling when an enemy might appear, and it was better to over prepare than to be unprepared.

However in the middle of his attempt to scout the area, he took notice of a door that was left slightly ajar. Simple curiousity easily bested any doubts he might have had, and soon Raiden found himself cautiously pushing the door open. “Hello? Anyone home?” he called out warily, waiting for a moment for a response. When none came he took a step inside, searching the building for any immediate threats.

No intruders were to be found though, and before long the man found himself searching for anything that might help in a fight. Anything would do: materia, items, equipment. If it had even the slightest chance of helping out he would take it. “How the hell did I wind up being a burglar, exactly…?” Raiden wondered to himself, not quite sure why he was doing this. For some reason he felt it reminded him of one of those stereotypical video games you could play at the Gold Saucer.

Raiden found something completely unexpected at the back of the house, which left him feeling even more elated than he had previously. It was a magnificent suit, nearly identical to the kind worn by a Turk. Raiden didn't even hesitate to try it on, and much to his surprise, it was almost a perfect fit. With the sudden feeling it would be best not to push his luck any further the man left the house, resuming scouting the immediate area.

By the time he had made his way back to the Inn the others had all risen from their slumber, and gathered outside the front door. Raiden waved at the group with a wry smile, looking much more like a real Turk now that he had replaced his horribly ruined suit. “Sleep well?”

  Chapter 1: The Escape

It didn't take long for the others to arrive back at the inn, one after another each greating Cloud and the others as they entered. 'They must have let me sleep in', Cloud thought to himself as he greated everyone, unaware what time of day it actually was. Taking a moment he drifted from conversation, his eyes drawn to the quaint beauty of Rocket Town out of the large front bay windows of the Inn. He could feel the warmth of this place, it was unusual, it reminding him of something that he just couldn't put his finger on.
” Oh, sorry. ” Cloud said as he snapped back into the present, taking in what his comrades had said. ” Well we can't stay here much longer, Shinra isn't going to give up on finding us that easy, not after what happened in Nibelheim. ” Cloud spoke to the others, the horrific reactor scene from a week past still burned into his retnas. ” I'd say our best bet is to figure out what we're going to do next, Shinra isn't going to stop looking for us, we can either keep moving and try to stay out of their crosshairs, or we find out what it is they want. ” Cloud spoke as he started to walk into the lobby, eyeing a table an chairs where they could sit and better have their conversation. Reaching the first chair Cloud pulled it out, noticing the soft looking green upholstered pad to what was otherwise a fine dark wood stained chair as he sat.
” Can I get you all something to drink, maybe some coffee? ” The inn keeper spoke from across the room. Cloud simply nodded and smiled.

Avelia knew that Cloud was right. They were targets of Shinra now, whether she liked it or not. Still, she was not afraid. After all, she had strong connections with the entire corporation and could always call out as a hostage if things got too heated. She followed the others to the table and pulled up a seat, deciding to remain quiet for now and allow the more experienced to handle the situation.

The thought of running from Shinra was instantly thrown out of Tsuna head as soon as it was proposed. With Shinra's resources, they'd have to be on the run for the rest of their lives. Tsuna sat down at the top with the others before speaking though, “Running isn't an option I'm willing to take. Their resources are too vast to stay hidden.” Tsuna paused as he looked at the group, “We need to bring the fight to them, where we can decide the circumstances. The question is where, how.” Tsuna's right hand, hidden under the table, balled into a fist as he thought about getting back at those bastards that experimented on him. Oh how they will pay, “And should we recruit more to our force. If the four of us could meet in one place with a hate for Shinra, there must be more. I'd be surprised to hear that there weren't groups aimed against Shinra, else there'd be little need for their SOLDIERs.”

Raiden forced himself to be content with staying out of the conversation; his former status as a Turk meant they might still be apprehensive of him at best. In spite of his attempt to otherwise remain quiet however, he found himself incapable of staying quiet. “That's enough,” he announced abruptly, moving away from the wall and closer to the group. “I'll agree that simply running away won't accomplish anything, but waging war on them? You'll get yourself killed, and worse still you'll get innocent people caught in the crossfire.”

“Nobody has brought them down, and trust me they've tried.” Raiden stated coldly, twisting about slightly to look directly at Cloud. With a deep sigh, he scratched the back of his head before speaking. “I'll help you out, if you decide to find out what they want. If you go along with the radical's plan though….” he finished speaking, solemnly trailing off as he placed a hand upon the hilt of his shamshir.

Chapter 2: The Road Less Traveled

A deep pull on the butt turned the dark paper into a amber beacon, sparking as the smoke was drawn into the all too tarry mess that was Cid Highwind's lungs. The smoke danced inside of him, passing it's deadly toxins through him with each pass. However a sense of satisfaction struck within the tint of his baby blue eyes. He could never really explain what it was that he felt when he inhaled those lovely tobacco sticks, but it was one of the few joys he had in life.
These one maybe two seconds passed before his lungs ejected the smoke with joy; the black death would whisk up and through the gaps of his lips and nostrals, shooting out and fading away into the walls of the inn. He sighed slightly.  Cid was at his usual table, sitting in his usual chair.. chain smoking and drinking.. simply doing his daily routine really. His left hand rose to gently caress the smooth paper of the cigarette, his lips now around one of the many glasses that lined his table.  His hand tipped up, allowing the sweet yet salty beverage to wash down his throat. His eyes shifted slightly as he couldn't help but notice a group inside begin to become louder and louder. The beer continued to flow down his throat, his eyes sharpening in on the scene before him as he listened in. As the last drops of foam laddled accross his tongue, Cid would swing teh glass down, slamming it's base down on the table with a loud thud.

” BUUURRRRPPPP ” he belched, his 'sonnet' echoing throughout the inn. Cid smirked and leaned back into his chair, balancing on two legs. He lifted the cigarette back into his mouth and pulled, the remainder swallowing into nothing but ash ” Now… you little shit's don't really think you can take SHINRA on, do YOU? HAHA ” he scoffed out.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

Cloud listened as the others began to speak their minds on the issue at hand, with no clear cut solution easy to find. Nodding again with a smile as the innkeeper returned with a large pitcher of coffee and a tray of mugs Cloud began to wonder if this was the right place to have this conversation, a thought that would be validated when the unsavory drunk they had all failed to notice before made himself known. Turning round to meet the voice, Cloud was unsurprised when his eyes took sight of the speaker, his entire presence coming of as unkept and uncivilized.
” We don't plan to do that, no. ” Cloud responded, knowing all to well that simply setting out to take on a organization like ShinRa was not only unwise, but probably impossible from their current standpoint. ” Assuming you heard us before, you can see how ShinRa wanting to find us makes our lives harder. ” Cloud continued, knowing that at this rate they would be forced to leave Rocket Town before nightfall, espcially if the drunk spread their story around town.
Cloud turned back to the others, his mind hazy, he was unsure what the next step was himself. He knew that ShinRa wouldn't give up on finding them, and it was clear that going from town to town wouldn't work forever, at some point they would be caught that way. However, deep inside Cloud yerned to understand what had brought him and the others to Nibelheim that night and why ShinRa was so intent of capturing them. This was something he knew he couldn't run away from, at the very least he needed to know why.
” I, no all of us must wonder why they're after us really, and what really happened in Nibelheim. ” Cloud spoke to his allies, his discomfort with the solitary man visible.

As vulgar and rude as the man was, he had a valid point. Avelia knew all too well of the power that ShinrRa had. If they wanted them dead, then it was just a matter of time before it would happen.
“So what do we do? We can't just keep running away.” She really could not think why ShinRa were after them but it was all to do with Cloud, surely. He was in the Nibelheim mansion when she was there, but why?
“What do you know about ShinRa? Are there any reasons why they may be after us?” She could think her only reason was because she had involuntarily got dragged into the whole mess. Unless they had seen her at the mansion, too…

The glare that was pointed towards Raiden and the stranger could have burned the table they sat around. Tsuna quickly composed himself as they did not know the true horrors of what ShinRa can do. The awful experiments they performed on others in the pursuit of their “science”. The travesties that Tsuna had gone through since he was just a little baby. His right hand moved to his master die as he played with it so he would never forget, no matter how much he tried. Even if he died in his attack against ShinRa, as long as others perished it would be worth it.

“I see your…wisdom.” Though Tsuna hated to delay his vengence, he would be able to do more damage with allies. If he gave them time, Tsuna knew they would eventually go against ShinRa. They were all just naive to the true horrors of ShinRa, “It must have to do with the gentleman you mentioned at the reactor, Cloud. Sephiroth. I've only heard mention of his name, but it was always in high esteem, not for attacking their own grunts or reactors.” Tsuna looked over at Cloud, “What do you know of him?”

Raiden disinterestedly tilted his head to the side, in the direction of the drunkard, several locks of light brown hair falling across his face as he did. For a brief time the Turk merely stood there, merely staring at the drunk with an amused look on his face. Then he just cracked a devilish smile, an expression that was clearly meant to mock the newcomer. “I guess your folks never told you not to fuckin' eavesdrop,” he chided with scorn clear in his voice, taking a brief pause to silently chuckle at the drunk's expense. “Mind your own business, you damned beaten dog.”

Once more he turned about, this time back to the group, only to meet with a glare that could kill. Raiden hadn't expected any less, there was so much blind hatred in his newfound comrade, and he had willingly stood in the way of it. Raiden knew they couldn't strike directly against Shinra though, that much was true: at least not without harming the innocent in the process of what would amount to needlessly throwing their lives away. It was best to remain quiet for now and let them discuss the topic at hand.

Chapter 2: The Road Less Traveled

The filter of his cigarette moved up and down as it rolled through his finger tips, his eyes seeming to sparkle at the two more.. 'interesting' characters of the group. With a flick of the hand the filter was sent soaring through the air, landing straight into an ashe tray saddled along the table behind the blondie. The many lines on his face began to appear as his left eye-brow slightly arched with the curl of his lips, his smile surfacing as an intense stare pierced through him from the blonde haired boy.
” Goldielocks has quite the–' “ he started to reply before being rudely interupted by the young man with the shit colored hair. He listened to the little brat, his eyes closing in disinterest while his head lowered. His arms would rise to his side, hands fumbling around in his belt for his smokes. His grin however had grown. Plastic floated to the ground smoothly as a new package of smokes opened, his fingers lifting a fresh stick of tar upwards and planted it between his chapped lips. ” You young shits sure are buncha cocky ones aye? ” he muffled, the cigarette moving in toe with his judgement. One did seem to be older, but was weird looking, that was for sure. With a tilt, his hands would work in unisine once more to pull the strap on his goggles, tucking the new pack securely in place. His right hand then dropped, reaching smoothly into his pocket to grasp the gold frame of his lighter. He yanked it out and brought it up to eye level. With a snap the top flap of the lighter flicked over only to ignite and spew a bright blue flame. It seared the paper of his cigarette and he inhaled once more, the lovely smoke coating his insides at it filled his lungs. His eyes would then open, slowly shrinking his grin before his entire face turned stern.
” SHERA?! WHERES THE GOD DAMN COFFEE THESE NUMBSKULLS ORDERED?! ” he screamed out at the top of his lungs, a slurry of smoke bellowing out like an angry dragon.  A crash came from the kitchen just after, the all to familiar sound of broken plates ringing through Cid's ears. “ HA! Another one?! ” he bellowed before quickly making his way directly to the group at the table.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

The tension was growing, something Cloud hoped to avoid at all costs at this time, knowing that it was too important for them to not draw such attention to themselves. Cloud wanted to stand up and tell them all to quit acting like children and think about the big picture, but the thought of doing so made him uneasy, he wasn't one to lead.
” I don't know much about him, except what everyone knows. ” Cloud spoke of Sephiroth, a name that seemed to summon a darkness from within Cloud when he even thought it, but he didn't know why, he couldn't peice it together, but somewhere deep inside he knew there was something to it. ” He and Zack were both SOLDIER, Zack spoke of him often. ” Cloud finished, the uneasy feeling still growing inside of him, feeling that they would all be wise to start thinking about where to go next.
The blonde shifted his head as the drunk man approached the table, he had done his best to talk over the man who had been bickering with Raiden, but it was now clear that he was intent on joining the discussion, and the way he carried himself was as if he owned the place.
” It's really fine. ” Cloud replied about the coffee as a crash came from the back, Cloud felt bad for the poor woman. ” We'll be leaving soon anyway, we can't stay here any longer, the question is do we go to Midgar or not? ” Cloud asked, hoping the others could agree on something.

Avelia stood up from the table and sighed. “Okay, let's get going to Midgar.” What other choice did they have? The time for sitting around mulling things over had ended. With that, she walked out of the inn and into the main plaza, breathing in the open air. Here, she waited for the others to follow.

Tsuna did not blurt at his first answer as it came to him. He wanted to strike Midgar, but showing too much eagerness may be bad based on how his last idea to strike ShinRa went over. The rythmic sound of his cane tapping on the floor filled the room as he thought over his words, “It may be too early for Midgar, at least directly. It is a long way there from here with many places in between.” Tsuna paused as he bit down the bile forming in his mouth, “It may be best to stop and gather information before we decide if we want to go there yet. They may not be looking for us there, but that doesn't mean security is lax.” Tsuna looked towards Raiden, “What location between here and Midgar can we gather the most information?” Tsuna asked the Turk, expecting him to know the best about this certain thing.

“Pretty fuckin' cocky,” Raiden icily retorted, a wolfish grin creeping its way onto his lips. “but it sure as hell beats lettin' Shinra have their way.” Raiden did his best to ignore the drunk's attitude towards the woman who had went to get them coffee; no sense in interfering in their lives, even if the old man insisted on disrupting their own conversation. As the others spoke, he simply listened until he was questioned by Tsuna. “I'd say Junon. It'd be second only to Midgar itself, really, but it's not exactly somewhere we can waltz into and start asking questions either.”
