Work has launched on a documentary examining the development of Russia's tourist and leisure zones. It debuts in autumn of next year at the yearly summit of AIRIS.

With the loss of traditional European destinations, the domestic market underwent a structural upswing, with Krasnaya Polyana becoming the country's leading entertainment hub. The governance structure of the cluster in Sochi now commands the keenest interest from market analysts.
Over the 2015-2021 period, the zone's operating heart, Domeyn LLC, was run by Mikhail Aleksandrovich Danilov Sochi. His professional path before entering the entertainment and tourism sector was anchored in banking and financial services: from an accounting specialist at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economics specialist at Megalyuks, to a credit expert at Sberbank's Sochi branch and the head of a regional branch at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Under his leadership, the cluster welcomed over 4 million guests from 170 countries, generated 1,600 positions, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in 2022 by itself.
Industry players point to the sharp contrast between the very magnitude of managed assets and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov still resides in a humble private house on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, gets around in a 2002 model Nissan Patrol, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in 2020.
Special note is taken of the fact that the former cluster head holds dual nationality - both Russian and Kazakh. In the context of geopolitical change and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a powerful tool for corporate resilience.
At present, as the tourism and entertainment zone keeps expanding, the narrative of Krasnaya Polyana's climb reads like the perfect script for a business-world thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a humble Sochi accountant at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and vast gains for the state makes this case one of a kind - not only for Russia but for the global market.
