SENSE MOTIVE INTRODUCTION
The sense motive ability is used to tell when someone is bluffing you, and directly counters a bluff check by another. The ability represents your characters sensitivity to body language, speech habits and patterns, and other mannerisms that your character can interpret. A sense motive check is deemed successful by eclipsing the bluff check of the opposing character. For more information please visit the ( bluff ) page. ADVANCED USES
Aside from being used to sense that someone is bluffing you, the sense motive ability can also be used re-actively in the forms of a gut feeling or a hunch. In these cases the DM will make the sense motive checks for you, as your character would re-actively be picking up the hunches and would be unaware beforehand. In certain cases the sense motive check can be used with a group of people or other objects that could be considered as having a motive or instructions, these will be case by case and cannot really be mapped out in full. There are no retries on sense motive checks, if you attempt to sense motive on a bluff and you fail then your character fully believes what the other has told them or done. Later on more information may make a reassessment of the check valid, but in that case it would not be considered a retry.
