SPOT INTRODUCTION
The spot ability, like the listen skill, is used by your character to perceive the world around them. Spot can be used as a reactionary ability, where as the DM makes the check to keep retain the surprise is a character fails to pass the dice check for the spot ability. However a character can also actively use the spot ability to get a grip on their surroundings. When a spot check is made depending on how high the roll the character may become aware of many things around them, but not all things around them (spot checks can have multiple tiers in their dice check, with each tier bringing them more information about the area). The spot check is also used to find hiding targets, and in this case is directly opposed by the opponents hide check, a spot check surpassing the hide check reveals the character. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

ADVANCED USES
The spot ability can be used to attempt to recognize someone in disguise, with the check opposing a bluff check in these cases. In most cases, like listen, a spot check is reactionary and thus you can make many of them in one round if the situation calls for it. However, if you wish to make a willing spot check it is a partial round action, these can be used if you are attempting to see something a previous spot check missed. Characters who have the alertness advanced ability gain a bonus relative to their level in that ability on top of the normal spot ranks.
