MATERIA EXPLAINED
Located deep within the planet is the flowing river of glowing green energy known as the lifestream. All life comes and upon death returns to this stream of life to be reborn. It is of this lifestream that materia comes into existence. Sometimes small amounts of the lifestream leak out into caves within the crust of the planet and after time crystallize and become mako. This mako when refined becomes the substance known as materia which harnesses the power of the planet in many magical ways and when absorbed into ones body can give the user great power, this is the basic premise of the use of materia.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MATERIA
There are five known types of materia that naturally occur on the planet, these types which all possess different effects which determine the color of that materia. Some materia, such as the basic element materia occur very frequently where as others such as summons are rare and sought after. For more on materia continue below.

[ magic materia ]: magic materia is bright green in color, and when equipped allows the user the ability to summon and
use many different magic based abilities, from attacks to defensive walls.
[ summon materia ]: summon materia is very powerful and rare, and known by its bright red color. The user of summon
materia has the ability to summon the beast sealed within to attack in combat.
[ command materia ]: known for its yellow color command materia is also rare but allows the users many different and
powerful commands which they can use on their turns in combat.
[ support materia ]: support materia, as it sounds, mainly helps support the user in various ways in combat, from adding
elemental effects to weapons, to counter attacks. support materia is known for its blue color.
[ independent materia ]: independent materia, purple in color, have many various effects, that range from many different
stat boosting qualities to boosting exp and gil from battle.

EQUIPPING MATERIA
To gain the use of materia in and out of combat, you must first equip that materia to your character. Doing this is easy, so long as you own some equipment. Every weapon or armor has information about how much materia it can have equiped into it. These are listed as Slots, which can hold one piece of materia, and Links which can hold two and link them together sometimes creating very special combination effects unique to different links. When you want to equip materia to your weapons and armor request and update on one of the various update boards, with a link to your bio and how you want your materia equipped.

MATERIA GROWTH EXPLAINED
When materia is equipped to your equipment while you are in battle you will begin to gain ability points, or AP. As AP builds up on your materia it will reach new levels and unlock new spells or effects. It should be known, that materia HAS to be equipped during the combat to gain AP on it, and equipment that isn’t equipped will not grow. Some weapons and armor also have different growth rates for AP, doubling or even tripling to normal amount. if that is the case it is listed with the weapon’s information in the equipment section of the site.

MASTERING MATERIA
When you materia’s AP reaches a set amount (which is listed on each materia page and changes from one materia orb to another) it will become mastered. When you master a piece of materia a great thing happens, it spawns an exact copy of that materia. The new materia that is created isn’t mastered itself however, it starts with 0 AP and if you wish to spawn another, you will have to master that one as well. Mastering materia is one of the best things a character can do, as it is the only way to gain two or more of some rare types of materia.
