Indeed, the trailer actually didn't look that bad, it wasn't as emo. I'm officially interested. Also, how about KH3?

Looked incredibly nice. Really, it's about time they've updated us on two games that have otherwise been missing in action. As for XV, the environments looked nice as always but combat still looks rough. We'll find out more tommorow from SE.

Yeah, but that makes sense, being MIA for the last couple years as SE made the choice to make it XV and move development to the PS4.

Of course it does, there’s no way ‘XIII’ could be maintained in its title without suffering from the original FFXIII. What’s more interesting is how this would make Nomura an official director of a mainline FF. You have to wonder if anything has or will change about this (although because it’s been hidden from us for sometime it would be difficult to compare and contrast).
Probably the only irritable aspect is it using the FNC mythos (even if it will have its own interpretation). I suppose Nojima being closer to this project than he was on XIII will mitigate much of the aversion, but it's still there nonetheless.

It definitely seemed a little different in 'mood' to me from what we had see of Verses XIII before, I think that's a good thing. Hopefully tomorrow Square will have a lot more information about it, you know like when we can expect to see it on shelves.

Given they've only shown what seems to be the more gritty parts of the game off in the past, I'm not at all surprised by the shift in presentation this time around. But that combat needs help fast…
I have the strangest feeling this game will be on-rails for some reason.

Couldn't be more on rails than FFXIII. That's like the most linear 40 hour game ever.

Ahh well, bring on tommorow!
Edit: Yeah, reading around a bit seems there are plenty like me who thinks there were a ton of set pieces (like Uncharted).

That's not a bad thing though, as the Uncharted games are all amazing. News came out today that they would both be multi-platform which I suspected, and that they are both being built via DirectX11 architecture. I suspect that means XV has been started over.

It hasn't started over since Versus XIII was always using elements of Luminous Engine (their next-gen engine). Nomura did drop subtle hints years back about this title being out of his hands as far as multi-platform was concerned.
The trailer seems riddled with set pieces of the same nature as XIII (we don't know to what degree of linearity). Not exactly promising as many are expecting more than that based on past interviews (Nomura did say this would be comparable to a road movie though). More than likely done for the purpose of E3 and its audience.

HD version of both trailers are up on SE's YouTube Channel.
Edit: They showed off more combat footage of the game where Noctis faces off against a Behemoth and Iron Giants. Much of the footage shown off seemed to be extended versions of the cuts in the E3 Trailer. There was also a stealth section with said behemoth, but not much else at that point.
Nomura confirms that Versus XIII beng XV was discussed regularly from the game's outset, mentions how meetings were quickly progressing towards this decision from the minute they were building their next generation engine and how its title was finalized as of last year.
Edit2: Looks like I'm that guy again; that anchorman.

Looks fantastic! I'm legitimaitely excited for this game. Hopefully it's the title that puts FF back on the map.

Just in general, I was not expecting FFXV to be something I'd be looking forward too considering the track Square has been on as of late. FFXIII was pretty average and XIII-2 was as well. Honestly oustide of the games that Eidos' wing of Square has done (Tomb Raider, Deus Ex) they haven't really put a good game out in awhile.

I'm glad to hear that. It shows even older fans of the series are receptive to SE. I'd like to add one thing to be fair: it doesn't take much to get the ball rolling past XIII lol.

No it really doesn't, I'd still perfer a more traditional FF but we all know that isn't going to happy, they have to appeal to the west and Turn Based RPGs don't do that. Level-5 is still the studio at the peek of RPG design right now, with Monolith-Soft on their heels, but Square can still produce good games they just need to find their idenity again.

In the meantime, I'll be waiting for the return of Ito (!) on XVI with a full-on classical high-fantasy subtle sci-fi approach. A man can dream dangit…

I'll be sold when I see Command Styles in the game, otherwise I'm not dealing with a barebones FF ATB navigation + basic Action game field movement (and intrusive camera controls).
