Perhaps she was being completely forthcoming. He hoped so… at the very least it seemed that she wasn't aware of any suspicion directed at him, though it was strange that a Jedi would be brought in to consult on contract negotiations of this nature without some sort of suspicion. He smiled as she agreed to leave with him and moved at her side leisurely. He could tell that Yates was amused by the two young people seeming to hit it off, Syn was right though… the old man was a nice one. When she directed the attention to him and he smiled and said, "I'm not much of a host anyway so I thought I would get out of here so I no longer had to pretend." Yates laughed at the comment and slapped Azrael on the shoulder before leaving.

Wryn watched as the old man returned to his conversation pleased to have a new juicy bit of gossip it seemed. Azrael made the rounds saying goodbye to a few more folks before taking Syn and making their escape. Once they were out in the hall and the door shut he leaned against the door visibly relaxing. "I'm so glad that's over. Yates might literally be one of the only people in that room I like… the rest of them are leeches that I can't stand. They just happen to be great investors…"

Pushing off the wall he led the way to the the turbolift that would take them down to the parking garage where his speeder awaited. As they were alone in the lift he asked, "Do you need anything from your room before we take our trip?"

Syn couldn’t imagine being forced to deal with people she didn’t like, she couldn’t help feeling grateful for her freedom. “I like being free, I can’t imagine having to jump through hoops just to get what I want, why do you put up with that? I mean, you go through all that and they don’t treat you differently. Seems to me, you’d be better off surrounding yourself with people who appreciate the effort, than ones only interested in eating your money.”

One might think that the Jedi weren’t, but really compared to the rest they truly were. Inside the lift without the press of people she too would seem much more at ease. She certainly was more open, though still respectful and polite. “I’ll need to change clothes, pack these away and then put it in my bag, but otherwise I won’t take long. As pretty as these gifts are, I’d feel more myself once I look more ‘me’. Though I don’t know how this dress will fare in my bag, I suppose I can get it sent ahead of me to the temple, I’m just not sure where I’d need to go for that. I’ve never had to send myself packages, let alone something so…fragile.”

She stuck her foot out eyeing the delicate shoe wiggling her toes “I suppose I could call my sister, she’d know about this stuff more than I, she gets the whole prettifying glitter stuff.” She looked up at him flashing a grin “If it can’t fit in my pack I usually don’t try, but that’s the life of a Scout!”

What all she did was never public knowledge, nor was it talked about outside the temple as the Jedi were rather closed mouthed. What would be clear is that she drifted from one place to another never staying in one place for too long. “So Yates said you spotted me from across a whole spaceport, was I really that shabby?”

She’d made an effort to dress ‘nice’ though she supposed after looking at the clothes again that the easy to leave behind and easy on the credits clothing might have been substandard. Then again she’d said that she was used to less spiffy places and that clothing such as she was wearing now was fairly unknown to her. “My sister ain’t gunna believe that you got me all painted and prettified, she’ll want pictures as proof.”

He smiled and wished the world was as simple as all of that. "Unfortunately the ones here to eat the money are the same ones who buy my goods, or have friends who buy my goods, or have enemies who buy my goods, or have angry ex-wives who buy my goods…" He laughed as the list would have gone on and on if he hadn't. "Putting up with them is as much an investment in my business as if I bought a new factory." He said sincerely.

Alone in the lift with her, Wryn couldn't help but notice how truly radiant the woman was. Sure she'd stood out in the spaceport and at the party surrounded by countless others… but here alone, her true brilliance shined. "I could have it shipped ahead for you to the temple if you like. Given the sensitive nature of my business it seemed only prudent to purchase my own courier company as well. Each of the couriers has been hand selected so I can assure you the upmost quality and discretion." He said flatly. The statement wasn't an attempt to impress her, it was simply an honest assessment. After all, he couldn't trust weapon purchase orders and the like in the hands of just anyone.

The woman was obviously a drifter much more at home in her traveling clothes than in the finery that she was currently wearing. Azrael couldn't blame her, she'd see soon enough that he preferred simple means as well. Her comment made him truly laugh. Was the Jedi serious? Or was she simply a woman fishing for a compliment? "You're kidding right? Shabby?" He shook his head in disbelief. "No Absynia, you stood out across the spaceport because you are a radiant and vibrant young woman. Your energy and confidence make you stand out." By the tone of his voice she would know that he wasn't exaggerating his assessment for her benefit.

"Well I'm sure there have been one or two taken and there will probably be few more by the time we get to my speeder. Just the nature of being known across the galaxy. They'll pop up in every major tabloid publication from here to the inner core." He said with a grin.

A couple of minutes later they stepped out of the turbolift and as promised were greeted by a swarm of reporters shouting questions and snapping pictures. Azrael moved past them with a well practiced poised and smile and nodded to his security personnel to clear the path for Absynia as well. Momentarily they arrived at a sleek black convertible speeder. Wryn opened the door for the Jedi and once she was in closed it behind her before moving to sit behind the wheel. Wasting no time he buzzed off towards the hotel where the members of the Alliance party were staying.

She couldn’t imagine willingly putting up with all that fuss, but then she didn’t run a company. She wondered if her former master had to deal with such things and decided she’d have to ask him. Certainly if there were similarities they were very different, the Jedi were very different in a lot of ways. When he spoke of taking care of it for her she had to curb the hint of a refusal, she was used to doing for herself after all. “I suppose that would be easier…though I won’t do it for free mister Wryn” She looked at him with a mischievous smirk “You’ll have to think of a way I can pay you back as I am sure my meager amount of credits are much too few compared to what you usually get for your services.”

When he gave her the compliment she studied him quietly, the mischief in her eyes still there. She hadn’t been fishing for a compliment, but his view on how she seemed were very interesting to her. She was surprised that she outwardly looked confident as inwardly she was in knots throughout everything. She wasn’t used to being under so many eyes, usually she slipped under peoples radars. “And here I thought you just wanted to see me in a dress.”

She couldn’t help teasing him again, he was just so serious and honest that it was too much to resist the temptation. The subject of cameras and tabloids came up and inwardly made her want to shy away, she hated getting her pictures taken and the idea of her face being put out across the galaxy made her nervous. Though since her sister was in the military she didn’t think she’d notice or catch sight of it. She’d have to take a look herself just to judge if she was going to have trouble when she resumed her regular work. When they got off the lift she was glad she’d taken his arm as the bright lights made her momentarily blind. She kept pace with him choosing to seem like she was looking ahead her expression neutral. When they were off she relaxed letting the spots fade away, her eyes stinging, that wasn’t an experience she wanted to repeat any time soon. It made her glad that compared to him she had plenty of freedom and a private life hardly anyone wanted to know about.

The hotel hadn’t been where she’d have chosen to go, but Yates had insisted he put her up in a nice place. Her room being modest compared to what she had originally would have got, had she not begged for something less fancy, but she still felt lost in it. Alone in it with him she was a lot more aware of him being near her than she had around other people. They were alone, that meant she didn’t have to keep alert to anyone else except him. She left him in the common room and closed the door to the sleeping chamber. She didn’t think he’d peek, nor would she have cared if he did, but figured he’d feel more comfortable. The first thing to come off was the light makeup, then she undressed packing everything back in its respective box. She unclipped her hair messing it up and shaking it loose to free the tangles. Then put on her comfortable traveling clothes, her feet particularly happy that she was back to normal boots.

She slid her sabers in their places in her coat concealed, donned it, grabbed her pack and with it on her shoulder carried the boxes out. The woman who’d walked in dressed as she had and the woman who walked out of the room were like night and day. She was still beautiful, but dressed in more comfortable clothes she seemed ‘cleaner’ now that she wasn’t lightly painted and glittering. No one would think she was a Jedi in either clothes, but she seemed much more at home than she had before. This was the woman people saw, this was the woman who went from planet to planet slipping in and out only noticed cuz of her beauty.

He watched her reaction for a moment and could tell she was obviously relieved to have her degree of freedom, though she failed to see that her so-called freedom was a leash of a different kind. Independence was a farce… a story told by those blind to the fact that everything in the Galaxy was interconnected. While she might view his life in the public as a constriction, he himself found the Jedi practice of adhering to tenants and teachings of mysticism a different kind of constraint… perhaps it was his nature as a business man that made him take a more pragmatic view of the Universe and those who populated it.

He laughed when she spoke of trying to pay for the courier services. He had plenty of ideas about how she could ‘repay’ him, and he suspected that she knew all of them. That being said, it wouldn’t be appropriate to simply come out and say them. While this beautiful young woman knew exactly what she was saying and doing, she was not like Laurel or the others… she wanted attention for attention’s sake, she wasn’t throwing it at others to distract them. “Sincere conversation and company is far more valuable to me right now than the cost of running a courier to Kashyyk.” He said flatly.

He quirked a smirk of his own at her dress comment. “Well I didn’t JUST want that…” he said in a tone that indicated that that result was just a bonus.

Azrael leaned on the back of a couch in the common room waiting for Absynia to change. It amused him just how uncomfortable the finery made her. He laughed at the mental image of her staring down Dark Lords with pride and contempt, but faltering at a dinner party…

When she exited the room, she would find that he no longer wore a tie and the top button of his shirt was now unbuttoned. Despite what many would still consider formal attire, the man would seem just as casual as if he were wearing a swimsuit. “Well now, you look much more at ease.” He said with his voice full of humor.

Syn flashed him a grin “You can bet I do, my feet are especially happy, dainty shoes are not as comfortable as one might think. My sister used to tell me that ‘one must make sacrifices for beauty’, but I’d rather face a mob of bandits than go through the mess and bother those ladies at your party go through daily. I guess if one thinks they have nothing else to offer its worth it, but ehh… What do I know?”

She stood by patiently waiting for him to take the lead again, she wasn’t in a rush at all and was quite happy to go wherever he decided he wanted to take them. Going with the flow of things was how she was naturally, content to let things go as they would and influence them if it was needed. It was an attitude she’d never grown out of, something that made some of the Elders ruffled as they felt she should take things much more seriously. What they didn’t understand was that it allowed her to see very clearly who stood with her and those who didn’t. People tended to underestimate her when they took her attitude and behavior at face value, something that many people over the years learned the hard way not to do. “You look much happier yourself, the weight of many eyes is a heavy burden.”

Yep, she didn’t envy those who had to place themselves in the spotlight, her brief taste made her happy of her position.

Her words kept the smile on his face, and he finally felt like it was his turn to play the innuendo game. “And just what else might you be offering Syn?”

Standing from the back of the couch he moved toward the door, “Shall we?”

As they walked back to the speeder he replied to her statement about his happiness. “What’s not to be happy about? I had a successful business meeting. I got to see a beautiful woman dressed all in finery for my party despite her desires not to. Now I’ve gotten to spend more time with said woman and she’s just as beautiful in her comfort zone as when she worked at it.” His words weren’t meant to flatter her, though they may have that effect. They were simply stating how he saw the night thus far.

Syn gazed out one of the windows of the ship sitting in its window seat, her knees pulled to her chest her arms folded around them. Her blue eyes watched the stars fly by, she never could get used to the chill of space. No matter how much she traveled, no matter how many worlds she hopped, the chill always set in her bones. Eventually she uncurled from her position and went to sit beside Azrael watching him, she decided she liked the look on his face when he was concentrating on things. It was very intense, showed just how much he devoted to whatever held his attention. She stretched sitting back watching the various blinking lights on the console “I always wondered if I ought to learn to fly. My old Master doesn’t travel very well nowadays and I’ve no interest in learning from some of the fliers at the temple. Know anyone who’d not be too distracted to teach me?”

While he was physically very focused on what was going on outside of the ship, he allowed his thoughts to linger on the beautiful young woman sharing the cockpit with him. Subtle hints of lavender mixed with the scent of well worn leather to form a definitive scent in his mind. It never failed that women had their own smell whether it was from shampoo, soap, or perfume and they were always different. They shared a pleasant silence as he could tell that she did not care for space travel at all. Then she came to stand next to him and her warmth seemed to radiate against his skin.

Within moments, Haven loomed in the forward window. The moon looked more like a small planet with varying blues, greens, and whites where the various lakes, landmasses, and snow covered areas were. Her question shook him from his thoughts. Glancing over his shoulder with a grin he tried to tell if she was serious. "Well if you ever come back this way, I will teach you to fly myself." He said sincerely. She would be leaving in the morning so he wasn't going to teach her now, but maybe just maybe he'd given her an incentive to come back.

The small ship entered the atmosphere imperceptibly and glided down to a gentle landing beside a small home with another building beside it which was obviously a workshop. The home sat in the middle of a wide open field with a large lake along the eastern perimeter, the rest of the surroundings were grasslands as far as the eye could see. Rising from the pilots seat, Wryn led Syn off the ship and onto the large covered porch on the front of the house. Opening the door, Azrael said "Absynia Maddock, welcome to Haven." When the Jedi entered his house, she would find it to be a simply appointed three bedroom cabin. It housed dark leather furniture as well as dark wood cabinets.

It was a pity come morning she had to leave, she sighed with regret “I’ll see if it can work out that way, I do get vacations so I could just swing by then. Its up to the Council to decide when, we usually rotate so I should be getting one here soon actually. Usually I just languish around the temple and breed mischief in the younglings and Apprentices. That is unless I am tempted back to a particular location, but that hasn’t happened in a long while, till now it seems.”

Let him draw from it what he wished, but she certainly wasn’t going to ask his forgiveness or permission. He wasn’t the first nor the last man she’d keep company with, she wasn’t even sure how long their dalliance would last. Not that she was wishing it to be cut short, nothing had even really happened yet. When they finally landed she stepped off into the sun pleased at how pretty everything looked, she’d been expecting a dead place filled with holes. “Its beautiful… Definitely not what I was expecting, are you sure you bought it for mineral rights?”

She wouldn’t be surprised if he bought it for his own use and not for business, the inside of the cabin was welcoming. She set her things on a table taking off her coat, she’d not wander around without his permission. She had to admit she envied him some, she had a room at the temple, but she hardly lived in it. What would it be like to have a place all her own? Perhaps once she was retired from being a Scout, maybe then she could sink in roots.
