Post Transitions Are Never Easy (Absynia)

Rhia laid stretched out on a bench out in the beautiful warm sun of the gardens of the Jedi Temple. She wore a bright green kimono with golden celtic shaped flowers, her long black hair flowed down along the grass beneath her. As she stared up into the sky, the Jedi Master recalled the times she spent with the former Grand Master, his teachings and love towards all his students.

He would be greatly missed. Rhia smiled. But he is now with the Force, now surrounding them and guiding them from the other side. It was a peaceful feeling for Rhia, understanding the balance of life helped her in this transition. However not everyone was at the stage she was in.

One Jedi in particular she was worried about, Absynia. She had been close to Master Evens and had felt his passing more than most though she had tried to hide it, to put on the Jedi front, but Rhia knew deep down she was hurting. She wanted to help her fellow Jedi Master, maybe guide her to see the bigger picture and to know that Terrian would never really be gone.

Not many could understand that way of thinking. Letting go of someone you cherrish is difficult work, she was not blind to how others view her in such situations, cold and distant. It wasn’t the case, she just decided to celebrate one’s passing into the Light, it was a tremendous occasion after all.

“You are welcome to join me.” Rhia said suddenly, sensing Absynia lurking nearby. Rising to a sitting position on the bench, she turned her head towards the Jedi, a smile on her red lips that stood out against her pale skin. “The sun is incredibly warm today, I’m thinking about getting a tan this season, what do you think?”

It had been a week or two since the former Grand Master Terrian Evens, her former Master and closest friend had passed on. She hadn’t been avoiding people, but she hadn’t been encouraging company either. Her head understood, her heart didn’t and she knew it would take time before both were at peace. She had taken to wandering the gardens centered amongst the branches high at the top of the giant tree that housed the living spaces for the Jedi Masters. The circular space was shaded by the branches above, but still had plenty of sunlight. Usually the windchimes scattered about the area brought her comfort, but today it seemed they were just pleasant sounds. Till she happened by a reclining shape and was quite neatly caught.

“You are welcome to join me.” The woman spoke out, a semi-familiar face she knew, this Master in particular was the leader of the Consular class of the Order, Rhia Sivron. “The sun is incredibly warm today, I’m thinking about getting a tan this season, what do you think?”

Syn walked over and leaned against the back of the bench, her hands bracing along it on either of her sides as she looked up at the leafy dome above them. “You’d have better luck out on the beach, you won’t get as good if you stay sheltered by all the leaves. Lots of people are taking advantage of the sun, I’ve noticed only the older Masters around, even the Padawans have scurried off for a bit of fun. I suspect the Healers will have a lot of sunburns to tend, wouldn’t surprise me if they are out with the rest making sure the children stay hydrated.”

Which begged the question why wasn’t she taking a break? The person she really wanted to see was Azrael, he wouldn’t think her silly for mourning her way. It was one of the things that set her apart from the other Jedi around her, especially now. The majority of the Jedi had simply moved on, she didn’t begrudge them their peace, but what would help her was actually time away from Kashyyyk. However she was still getting used to things and wanted to work, but it was hard to do with healers and others fussing over her. It tested her patience, but she understood that it was merely because they didn’t know what to expect. For that matter she was still getting used to her new quarters, something that felt pretty bizarre since seemingly moments before they had belonged to her friend.

Everything was so different now and she felt lonelier than ever, she wondered how long it would take before she could take a break and be confident that she had every loose end tied up.

“You are right... but that means joining the masses as you so put it who are also out and about enjoying the sun.” Rhia said, again she gave the fellow Jedi Master a smile.

“If only the old ones remain in the temple, why are you here?” She asked, her voice dripping with curiosity. “You’re young, and given the past few weeks, deserve to have some time off. The beach, the forests, i’m sure you and your friends would find something better to occupy your time with then lurking around temple walls and tree top gardens.”

Rhia leaned forward, placing an arm on the back of the bench, then resting her chin on top, her red eyes never left Syn’s face.

“You are troubled still.... in a deep state of mourning.” Rhia’s voice was like a whisper, soft and musical to the ear. “You are in the middle of a transition, a change from one state to another. Such changes are never easy, but dwelling on the past will not help your future.”

Syn sighed “I have a lot of work to do yet before I feel comfortable leaving for a break. As for...friends...before I was chosen for this position I was a Scout, one of the planet hoppers keeping eyes, ears and senses out for potential and potential trouble. I wasn’t around long to establish close ties with anyone at the temple, except Master Evens, so...it would be a bit awkward. I have a few things I’m planning on doing, but I need to work to smooth things out before I do anything.”

When she mentioned her current state she sighed closing her eyes “Not you too...” She sighed heavily “My head knows what my heart does not, I’m perfectly aware of my inner state and trust me, I’ll get to it. Duty comes first, I can mourn as I choose once I feel secure in taking some time away. Its only made worse by people fussing over me and this irrational feeling that Master Evens is gunna spring from my new closet. Its...weird living in the place he used to live... The oldsters insisted I stick to that tradition and I knew if I hadn’t their feathers would be ruffled for a while and they can be stubborn.”

It was a well established fact that their new Grand Master was a challenge for those who were traditionalists. She liked most of the traditions, but where many felt they should be as unbendable as stone, she felt that being too stiff would only close off new paths. Plenty of the younger Jedi looked up to her as some sort of idol, those her age applauded her actions, but the older Jedi frowned upon the change she was bringing. She wasn’t planning on getting rid of the old traditions and mindsets, she was simply shuffling them around, cleaning off the dust and adding more to it all. It didn’t help that she was the youngest Grand Master in history, but she often felt like the Elders though she was still sucking at the teat.

Rhia looked way from the red haired master and back out across the garden, her back resting on the bench, with her arms hanging off of it. her long legs stretched then she crossed them allowing the silence to strengthen for a moment longer

“I did not solely refer to the passing of Terrian.” She spoke at last. “Although that is where your greif lays for the moment. But you yourself have to face a new level of responsibility and leadership. Grand Master Jedi is not a title to be taking lightly, overcoming the ghost of Terrian in your room is only the beginning of the tasks and growth a head of you.”

Rhia smiled, it was nice having a younger Jedi take the leader role. It would do the Jedi well to have someone with fresh ideas and a connection to their core base numbers, despite what some of the elders said.

“I for one am looking forward to your leadership and can’t wait to see how much trouble you cause the elders.” Rhia said excitedly with a laugh. “The Jedi are in a position of change themselves and you’re the one leading that change. Wheter it is for the good or not is still undecided. But... I do have faith in you Absynia. After all you were the one chosen in the end, that is saying a lot.”

A gentle cool breeze entered the garden, rustling the leaves and plants and picking up strands of Rhia’s long dark hair into the mix. Rhia looked up and gave a sigh, so many signs, so many possible futures awaited them, which path they would travel down was still hidden from her by the Force.

“You now, one way to make sure Terrian’s ghost won’t bother you in your new room is to make it your own.” She said, abruptly standing, showing Absynia her 6ft height. “Let’s go paint! OH, and i have the best purple-red cushions you can use.. and wall art. I’m always good for a painting or tapestry.”
