Jonas heard Alucard's gunshots burst out in the spacious sable and briefly looked back over his right shoulder where he saw Alucard say something to the dark haired insurance lady then give the smirk he reserved for some bad quip. Jonas only shook his head at this as he turned back to look out through the large barn doors.
” Hey uh… Milly was it. You should pro— ” Jonas had begun to tell Milly to get behind some cover but stopped when he realized she had already begun to do so, taking the opposite barn door from him with a quick dash. ” Never mind. ” He scoffed as he looked out on the sun beaten dirt road from the stable. He had clear shots of three goons, all with guns drawn. ” There are so many choices. ” Jonas said to himself as he quickly leaned out with just his right handed Grader extended and let of a volley of rounds in the direction of the nearest bounty hunter who stood out in the middle of street without any cover, the ducked back behind the barn door. |

Gunfire had begun to break out all around the inn. From the left hand doorway into the hall that lead to the stable the breaded man watched as the first of his lackeys fell to the floor as he tried to approach, slain by the man who claimed not to be Vash the Stampede. The man looked across the gap between the exit and motioned for the next man to take the hall.
” Don't be no wuss now, go get us some double dollars. ” He spoke in his burly tone and watched as his lackey gulped, pulled his pistol and moved forward firing off a couple rounds towards the doorway as he approached.
From outside the men in the streets watched as the first of their numbers fell with splatters of crimson, holding their ground and the two with eyes on Jonas fired off rounds of their own.
” Hard to say, but probably not. ” The dark haired woman said as she watched the first man fall, clutching her own pistols unsure if she should aide these two or not. |

That bullet that hit Alucard's card ricochet off his kevlar pad. Alucard barely flinched as bullet hit the bad, the sides of his grin reaching near his ears, “That almost itched.” Alucard moved his jackal towards the bounty hunter and paused before shooting four bullets towards him.

The stables were now full of the raucous rhythmic sounds of gunfire as both Alucard and Jonas as well as the unorganized group of bounty hunters returned fire with each other. Splinters of wood flew up around Jonas as rounds struck the outside doors of the stable house, he knew they didn't have the numbers and eventually they were going to need a plan of escape if the group of goons decided to rush them.
” Any idea how we're going to get ourselves out of this one? ” Jonas yelled over his shoulder in the direction of Alucard and Meryl.
Refocusing his attention to the men outside Jonas leaned out again and let a second burst of rounds from his first Grader in the direction of the nearest thug before returning quickly to cover behind the large barn style door. |

Alucard watched as the bounty hunter go down and looked back to see Jonas still exchanging bullets outside. “I certainly don't mind stay here and killing all these guys, but I'm guessing that only more will continue to show up as this goes on longer.” Alucard let the cartridge from his jackal drop to the floor as he brought up another cartridge to reload the handgun. “This way is clear. Let's look for a different exit and make a break for it.”

Jonas was breathing heavily, feeling the rise and fall of his chest as he pressed his back against the plastered wall, his eyes focused through the cracks in the splintered dry oak door that was ajar to his left. Outside the street was quiet now, the bodies of several bounty hunters bleeding their crimson blood out onto the sandy street between the caravan house. It seemed like it was all over.
” That was certainly an escape we made, couldn't have done it with you ladies. ” Jonas said, completely serious as his heartbeat was finally starting to return to normal.
” We held up our part of the bargan, now you need to hold up yours. Tell us what you know about Vash the Stampede. ” Meryl said as she let out a sigh of relief of her own before scanning both Jonas and Alucard again, looking them both over her mind wondering if these two even knew anything. Whipping her white cloak back around her as she refastened the blue straps to hold it closed and conceal her magnitude of weapons.
” It's kind of a long story, but well I guess you two earned it. ” Jonas relied as he quickly shot a glance over to Alucard, before laying out all the details, how they had met Vash on the sand steamer and shared boarding, the encounter with Legato and Grey the Ninelives, and how he had disappeared when they reached their destination. ” So you see we're sorta doing the same thing you are… tracking him because something is happening. Isn't that right? ” Jonas asked Alucard as he finished their story, about their meeting with Vash the Stampede, even though he left out every detail about the reactor in Warren Town and Alucard. His mind was already wondering if maybe these two knew something as well, and how they could get that information from them. |

Alucard evened out his breath as he kept low below the wall next to Jonas. The bounty hunters may be gone for now, but no reason to risk being discovered after that blood bath. He watched the two women intently as Jonas retold their past encounter with Vash. He noted in his mind that left out about the reactor in Warren Town. There weren't many people that had ever known about his past, even fewer who still breathed. He was reassured that he was with good company.
“Something greater than we know. I suspect.” Alucard paused as his breath returned to a normal pace, “Too much bad news involving Plants. Issues arise from time to time, but if this keeps up…I suspect surviving here will be much more difficult.” Alucard thought about his people. Vash and the disappearing Plants, they were cleared connected. “What have you two found out?”

There was a quietness that got caught in the air after Jonas' story and Alucard's comments. The girls seemed both caught up in their own thoughts, not quickly responding, leaving the two adventurers surely wondering what exactly would happen next. As shouts could be heard outside from the streets of Augusta, the first response to the gunfight that had led them into this small stone building, Meryl finally spoke.
” What have we found out… found out about what exactly?! ” Meryl started, not sure what Alucard had meant. ” About the whereabouts of Vash the Stampede, that he was headed here towards Augusta? That great damage was dealt to a connecting sand steamer which your story verifies? That he destroyed a reactor in Warren Town and that Augusta is probably next? We have to find him and try to stop him! That's what we found out! ” Meryl was rambling now, her emotions taking over, sensing that these two knew more than they were letting on and that Augusta was in fact the next target of the Humanoid Typhoon.
” Uhhh… yeah that all seems pretty heavy. ” Jonas was trying to respond, sensing that they two didn't know as much as he or Alucard might have thought about Vash but we're on the right track. Before he could finish the sounds from outside began to change, there were screams and yells, something different then what you would expect from some random everyday shootout. Then the shadows cast themselves through the room coming from the shuttered window and the gaps in the door. Jonas stepped towards the door, pushing it slight open and found himself staring up at the sky, at the angular 'thing' that moved slowly by, blocking out the direct rays of one of Gunsmoke's two suns. He watched as it slowly glided by hundreds of meters overhead, heading directly towards the center of the city, towards the reactors. |

Alucard pulled his head back with the onslaught of question from the woman. He had worded his question poorly and the duo seemed to know nothing of what was going on. Alucard prepped himself to respond as he heard the sounds from outside. He stood with Jonas and looked to see what the commotion was.
Alucard was he shock as he stared towards something flying in the sky over Augusta. It was on track towards the reactor and there was little chance that was a coincidence. Alucard looked towards Jonas in disbelief, “Yea, but shouldn't that thing be.”

There was a sound as the thing flew overhead that Jonas had never heard before, something mechanical and strange as whatever the metallic object was pushed through the hot Gunsmoke air. Alucard was speaking but Jonas, Milly, and Meryl were all transfixed on the shape that moved overhead, angular but rigid at the same time, seemingly floating by and slowing as it neared the ruins that were Augusta's reactors. The distance was too great to see for sure but the tip of the flying thing seemed to stop just at the top of the ruins and hold there, hovering and casting it shadow down on the sandy streets below.
” If we're all… uh, looking for Vash the Stampede. Something tells me that's probably the best place to start. ” Jonas said rather matter of factly, still unsure of what was happening, the adrinaline from the gunfight before never having the proper time to wear off and his mind now utterly confused.
Jonas flashed a sudden look past the two women they had just met to Alucard, sensing that there was something more to this thing, almost like something was calling to him, his eyes transfixed now in a way that Jonas had never seen them in their time traveling together, knowing that they would have to go to the reactor now, no matter what. |

The world around Alucard seemed to disappear as stared off towards the flying object. He felt compelled to move towards the reactor as if it were the most important thing that he would ever do in his long life. He forgot about everything else as he unconsciously began to take a step forward.
Jonas' eyes brought him back to reality. As if the entire world suddenly caught back up to him. He lowered his glasses to met his eyes with Jonas trying as he could to convey the importance of this moment without letting his guests catch on, “Yes.” Alucard paused before breaking eye contact and again staring towards the reactor, “We must go.”

Jonas, Milly, and Meryl followed Alucard back through the old oaken doors into the blazing suns of Gunsmoke, the streets having cleared after the shootout and shock of the sight in the sky. It was quiet, eerily so, Jonas thought as the made their way in silence down the empty main street of Augusta towards the towering wreckage of SEEDS ships that made up the reactor complex at the center of the city. In the distance the ship seemed to be moored to the top of the center tower. Jonas looked on in wonder, unsure about what they were walking into, and what had gotten into Alucard.
” Listen, we can't just stroll right on into anot—uh, into a reactor. ” Jonas said, stuttering for a moment as he almost let out too much information about their time in Warren Town, his eyes darting to Meryl when he made the mistake, though she hadn't seemed to notice. ” We're going to need a plan. ” he continued before the sound of gunfire startled him into a jump, something that rarely happened to him. It was coming from the reactor complex. |

Alucard stare up towards the ship in the sky and towards the reactor. He could feel something calling him forward, pulling him towards….towards what he wondered. He had never felt this could reactors before. So what made this different. His eyes moved up to the ship. That did.
BANG! Gunfire rang out as Alucard snapped to and looked towards Jonas, “Don't think we have time for a plan.” Alucard grabbed his jackal and took another step towards the reactor, “We'll figure it out as go…like we always do.” Alucard smiled as he walked towards the reactor.

The harsh ear piercing explosions of gunfire found their way down from the heights of the Augusta reactors towards street level below. The duel suns were high above them and casting long shadows across the well beaten dirt and sand road that led through the increase of dense buildings towards the true center of the city, the reactor complex. Jonas had stopped around one hundred meters shy of the main entrance into what amounted to ruins of a crashed SEEDS ship—truthfully one of the better preserved ones—as Alucard spoke, suggested the would have to do what they always did and just figure out the plan as they went. He had pretty much been thing the same thing as they had hurried towards the sound of gunfire.
” Yeah, that's what I was thinking too, but it doesn't look like we're going to be going through the front doors this ti.. uh. ” Jonas was replying, having noticed a large group of armed guards surrounding the big main entrance to the reactor complex, cutting himself off as he once again shot a quick glace back towards the girls. ” Looks like there are some emergency stairs over there on the outside of the second spire. ” Jonas pointed to his right, on the far side of the complex which consisted of three towering spires of SEEDS wreckage.” My guess is we can probably scale the outside up to mid-level and then cross over. ” Jonas continued as he pointed to a large flat area about halfway up the right most spire that then connected via a metal walkway to the main structure.
” You two aren't actually planning on running towards this meyham are you? ” Meryl suddenly cut in, knowing in the back of her mind that if Vash the Stampede was anywhere it was at the top of that reactor, but still. |

Alucard looked over towards where Jonas pointed, nodding in agreement, “That could work.” Alucard placed his Jackal back into his inner coat pocket. The pull sensation beckoned Alucard forward towards the reactor. Not wanting to alarm the two new people, Alucard did his best to ignore this feeling outwardly as he looked back at Meryl with a smile, “Well of course. You'll never find a Stampede without a little mayhem.” Alucard turned and moved alongside Jonas to find good footing for them to climb.

Meryl seemed to want to respond to Alucard but before she could utter something she realized it was better kept silent and with a change in body language she moved aside and with Milly next to her allowed the two adventurers to go off ahead and clear the way for them, sensing that following their lead at the very least probably would bring them to Vash the Stampede.
” It'll have to work, unless you want to just go blasting in the front door. ” Jonas said, pausing for a moment to let his eyes drift back towards Alucard, ready to follow him through the heavily guarded front entrance if that's what he wanted, knowing that it would be a quicker way to the top of the spire. ” Up to you partner. ” He finally concluded before taking a few steps towards the right spire where the emergency stairs jutted out in the distance, unguarded. |

Alucard paused as he looked towards the main entrance. The sensation was telling to bust through the front door and get to it as quickly as possible. His eyes moved to the flying ship and his instinct to live told him that the later anyone knew they were there and better chance they had to get out once it was finished. Alucard looked back to the group. Meryl and Milly seemed they could handle themselves, but a frontal charge would be tough even for him and Jonas.
“Let's take the emergency stairs.” Alucard's gaze went towards the side of the SEED ship, “It seems it'll be better if people don't know we are here.”

Jonas and the girls didn't even slow as Alucard proclaimed that they should take the emergency stairs, as they had all seemed to agree on this subconsciously as they had been moving farther into the reactor complex. Ahead Jonas reached for the railed of the stairs as he slowed for the briefest moment to look back at Augusta before pushing past thoughts aside and taking the stairs two at a time. They moved upward quickly, one flat of stairs at a time until the reached the flat mid-level deck of the crashed SEEDS ship, the causeway connecting the ship that the stairs had been connected to to the main reactor ship directly ahead of them now. Jonas slowed to a stop, gasping for air as he attempted to catch his breath. Ahead of them the bridge that connected ships stretched across a long gap, standing at the beginning was a lone guard, his gaze upward from where the gunfire came.
” Just one guard, what do you think? ” Jonas asked, sensing from eye contact with the girls that initiating combat with him might not be preferred. ” Maybe we can talk him down? ” Jonas mumbled as he eyed Alucard, hoping he would make the right call. |

Alucard gathered close to Jonas as they assessed the situation ahead. The katars on Alucard's forearms weighted heavy as he wished to wield them to get past the obstacle, but he noticed Jonas' glance back at the girls. They seemed like they could handle themselves, but seemed better to avoid any fight we can. “Well, let's see.”
Alucard walked towards the bridge, his hands open and by his side, showing they were empty. “Excuse me.” Alucard said towards the guard with a smile. “We've been sent to inspect the reactor due to…well that.” Alucard gestured with his heads towards the ship overhead. His tone remained cool, his reflective glasses giving no insight from his eyes. “What word has come down?” Alucard continued to move forward with an air of confidence and comfort.

Jonas allowed enough space between himself an Alucard that if something went wrong he would have room to move, though he too sensed the girls wouldn't take kindly to their usually behavior. Overhead the low deep resonating hum of whatever engines powered the object docked above them were vibrating enough that it could be felt in the metal frame of the platform they stood on. Jonas tried to focus ahead but he found himself catching peeks of the craft over them when he could, trying to fathom what or who might be inside.
” Uhh.. Uh. I just, I can't let anyone through! ” the guard was stuttering as Alucard neared, clearly out of his depths.
” I think maybe we might have to deal with this— differently than we usually would. ” Jonas said low enough that Meryl and Milly wouldn't be able to make out over the noise from overhead, motioning to them with a glance that he hoped Alucard would recognize as deal with the guard without killing him or injuring him too badly. |
