Frantz stared in awe at the Gangan Roo. His hand gripped his spear tightly for a moment till the giant creature stopped in front of them and he noticed the carriage. “Who saw this creature and thought let's put a carriage on it.” Frantz said under his breath as he relaxed and shook his head back and forth. Frantz followed behind Vivi onto the carriage and couldn't help, but stare up at the Gangan Roo holding the carriage. A part of him wanted to reach out to touch the animal, but since the animal seemed friendly enough he didn't want to test that. While Frantz felt on better ground than the airship, he was beginning to puzzle out if he would prefer this over the airship. Two very different and new forms of transportation, but a deeper anxiety told him he would soon find out as he moved towards the edge of the carriage and grabbed onto the rail.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

The carriage swayed as each of the members of the party hoisted themselves from the platform into the comfortable upholstered seats on after another. With all four of them aboard Tot seemed to do something that set them off in a blaze of speed towards their destination, Lindblum. Erlein had settled in, feeling the air against his face the the Gargan Roo move swiftly through the tunnel, the darkness around them periodically interrupted by the occasional flicker of flame from a gas torch on some far off stone wall.
” Bermecia is coming along nicely Vivi, though the return of the Mist has startled many. Sir Fratley, well… he's adjusting.” Freya responded before stopping abruptly.
” So this thing, it'll take us all the way to Lindblum?” Erlein had sensed the tension in Freya's voice and decided to chime in himself, stear the conversation elsewhere. ” It's pretty amazing right? I mean even by airship this voyage would take several hours, to think this thing has been under our feet the entire time.” Erlein continued, genuinely amazed at the rate they were travelling. ” You alright Frantz?” Erlein suddenly asked as he noticed that their ally was tense, grasping the rail of the Gargan Roo and seemingly deep in his own thought.

With everyone finally aboard the Gargan Roo, Dr. Tot activated the transportation and within moments the party was off towards Lindblum.  As they moved through the darkened tunnels, Freya finally began to answer Vivi's question, though she began to hesitate as the conversation turned towards Sir Fratley.  Before Vivi could say anything though, Erlein interrupted, perhaps he too had sensed her hesitation. Not wanting to put Freya in any undue stress, Vivi decided to go along with Erlein and continued the new conversation, leaving Freya alone to her thoughts for the rest of the ride.

“Correct, straight to Lindblum,” Vivi answered Erlein. What Vivi left out was that even he was unaware of just how vast the network of transportation was. The root system covered the majority of the continent, but Vivi did not know if all of the root systems had been configured for transportation or just the major points that connected the larger cities.

As Erlein moved the conversation towards Frantz, Vivi took this moment to sit down in one of the corners of the carriage and closed eyes to reflect on all of the things that had happened since the day they all met in Alexandria.

The next time Vivi opened his eyes, the carriage had stopped at the station for Lindblum.

Frantz released his grip to Erlein's question as he realized how he looked, “Ye-Yea…Just my first time travelling by bug.” Frantz steadied himself in the carriage and moved towards the center. His people had lived underground for some time, but Frantz still did not like the cramped feeling on the tunnels and preferred areas where he could jump as high as he could. The past few hours for Frantz had given him such different experiences even when compared to his adjustment to this continent. “How long till Lindblum?” Frantz hoped that these roots happened to create a pretty direct route between the two cities that allowed the Gargan Roo to travel quickly. Either way Frantz was counting down the moments that he could stretch his legs, jump, and not feel constricted.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

The carriage ride was mostly quiet, each of the other three mostly reflecting on their journey to this point, only speaking here and there when some point in their memory had brought up a question or comment that the others might be able to add to. Erlein mostly just listened, sensing that he was among those whose lives to this point had been much more eventful and important than his own. He never nodded off though, he let his eyes wander, looking on each of the others when they were completely engrossed in their thoughts, examining their expressions, trying his best to gain a greater understanding of their character.
” We are nearing on Lindblum.” Freya suddenly broke the silence, her tone very matter of fact.
” For real?” Erlein responded almost instantly before noticing the bright light in the distance, the end of the tunnel looming. ” Oh! I see!” There was excitement in his voice as Erlein tensed up, grasping the wooden arm rest as he anticipated the end of their Gargon Roo journey.
Ahead Regent Cid waited next to the platform, feeling the changes in the air as the Gargon Roo approached. His hand unconsciously moved to his mustache as he awaited the arrival of Tot's group, having prepared an airship for them in the night time hours, ready to see them with his own eyes and send them on their way towards destiny.

The sound of Freya’s voiced pierced Vivi’s inner thought and concentration, snapping him out of his trance. His hand outstretched, he gripped the side of the carriage and pulled himself up. He gazed around the carriage, the rest of the party seemed to be in their own kind of trances, surely relaxing and thinking back as well.

Then the carriage began to slow down and foreign lights began to invade the darkness. Slowly, the view of the Lindblum platform began to fade into their view. As they got closer and closer the image of people waiting on them came into focus. It looked like Regent Cid himself had come to see them.

As the carriage crawled to a stop, Vivi picked up his staff and slowly made his way off the carriage. He wondered if they would stop and eat and get some rest here before they moved on, something they had not done since they left Alexandria.

The Gargan Roo trip went far faster than Frantz thought it would take for them to get to Alexander, but even then Frantz wished to get out of the carriage as quick as he could. A part of him wished to jump from the carriage, but worried the animal would have a hard time with the sudden weight and would at least cause the carriage of shake for everyone on board. Instead, he got off the carriage behind Vivi and jumped a little in the air once on the platform. “That is much faster than anything besides an airship, but I'm glad to be off.” Though they were not on the carriage for very long, Frantz legs felt stiff which caused him to bend low to stretch them as he awaited the rest of the part to depart the Gargan Roo.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

Cid had already whipped his cape around, turning from the party as they arrived towards the elevator which would take them up into the castle. He knew they would be tired, but Tot's message had worried him and he was eager to see them to the airship and get them on their way, as it seemed the fate of Garnet, Zidane, and perhaps Gaia was in their hands.
” I'm sorry to rush you, but the good Doctor Tot's letter was quite worrisome and I have had an airship, fully staffed of course, prepared. They are only waiting on you to set off.” Cid said, his voice steady even though he was feeling anxious.
” This is all too much.” Erlein stammered, looking back at the others, the four of them having just left the confines of the Gargan Roo tunnels into the presence of Regent Cid himself only to be hurried along to the elevator. ” So we'll head directly to the ship? Uh I hate to ask but is there any food aboard? We haven't stopped to eat in.. well it seems days even if it has only been twelve hours.” Erlein said, sensing that they were all becoming weary.
” Of course, of course young man! I've had on of our —uh— personal cooks transferred to the ship…” Cid said, trailing off as he did.

It did not take long before the entirety of the party had removed themselves from the carriage. It was evident to Vivi, that while Erlein and Frantz enjoyed that the trip was much quicker than overland transportation, they still expressed some unease with this type of travel.
They would not have long to think of the ride through the Gargan Roo though. Regent Cid was indeed waiting on them at the platform, though he did not wait for them all to exit the carriage before he began to walk away. Things seemed to be direr than they thought and Regent Cid expressed that they much leave at once for the Iifa Tree via an airship that had already been prepped and readied for the group.
Vivi followed closely behind Regent Cid, it was odd to see him in this state, as Vivi more fondly remembered him as an Oglop. As they moved from the platform, they came upon a staircase that led up to the Air Cab that was used by the populace of Lindblum to travel throughout the different districts.

Frantz's enthusiasm died at the mention of another airship. Even though he knew they were heading to Lindblum for an airship, Frantz has forgotten due to the Gargan Roo. “Airship…” Frantz mumbled under his breath. Slumped shoulders and head down, Frantz walked with the group towards the elevator that would lead to another form of transportation that he did not wish to ride. They former ride wasn't too bad, until it crashed. The Regent seemed to have gone above and beyond to prepare them a ride, even with a personal cook, so Frantz hoped to this airship ride would be much smoother and safer than before. While on the elevator, Frantz began to think back to the transportation he had used previously, boats. Though they were at the whim of the sea, Frantz felt more secure due to being accustomed to the ride, but realized that he may be safer aboard airships. At least then, he would usually have ground below him that he could jump to. That thought helped him a little as he relaxed, but he still did not look forward to it.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

Erlein followed the others, taking in the grandeur of all that surrounded him in the depths of Lindblum as he stepped onto the elevator with the others. The ride was smooth and had taken them upwards to a bustling interchange where an aircab awaited them.
” This cab will take you directly to the airship docks where your ship awaits. Vivi, Freya— and you two as well. It seems that our peace was short lived, but I'm sure you all know too well what is at stake by now. You should make haste for the Iifa Tree and do whatever has to be done.” Cid said, his worry beginning to show as he turned from the group. ” If you need anything, please send word and it will be.” Cid finished before gesturing that they all enter the aircab.
Erlein remained quiet as Cid spoke, looking at the others, settling mostly on Frantz who seemed worried. When Cid had finished Erlein moved towards the aircab. ” This aircab looks a lot more comfortable then that Gargan Roo.” Erlein said, as he stepped inside, shifting towards the opposite side where he slid comfortably into a seat, waiting for the others. Once everyone was aboard the door wooshed shut and they were instantly moving. The view from the windows of Lindblum showed a city in motion, many repairs and much activity going on all around. Erlein tried not to think about the destruction that had occured not so long before, and wondered if they would be able to stop that from happening again.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

The doors to the aircab quickly slid open, inviting the group to enter. Vivi followed closely behind Erlein and slightly ahead of Frantz, who seemed a little off since they departed from the Gargan Roo. After the party was all inside, the doors closed and off the cab went. It was not that long ago that Alexandria had laid waste to most of Lindblum, evident by the massive amounts of reconstruction taking place. Vivi peered out at the kingdom, hardly recognizing the place where his journey had once led him too.
   ”
This is my first time back here since I was with Zidane, Freya, and the others,” Vivi stated. “It looks much different.” As he said this, Vivi let out a quiet sighed and went back to his thoughts.
It wasn't long before the aircab arrived at the Lindblum Castle. Vivi quietly stood up, picked up his staff and made his way off the aircab as the doors slid open.
   ”
The airship is sure to be at the royal ports,” Vivi said aloud to the group.

Frantz took a seat in the aircab as he felt some of his worries go away as he body was able to relax. The initial thrust of the aircab's engines jostled him slightly, but he was able to settle in after. Frantz took in the castle town of Lindblum as it passed by the party. Scars from the recent war were still evident and Frantz was surprised that these kingdoms that were just at war had begun working together before even the buildings were repairs. Frantz nodded to Vivi's remarks and could only think it was the variety of their party that allowed the kingdoms to come together so quickly, “If only the peace could have lasted long enough for the scars to heal.” Frantz felt for the people of the this kingdom and hoped that the new party would be able to keep the conflict away from the innocents.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

The weight of what it meant to be in that aircab, on that day was starting to set in for everyone. Looking out over the city, still heavily scarred from the Alexanderian attack.
” We well just have to keep what happened before from happening again.” Erlein said, his eyes scanning the others before settling on Freya.
” It may not be that easy. Who knows what awaits us at the Iifa Tree.” Freya replied, the unknown of what was causing the return of the Mist in her mind.
Erlein simply nodded, sensing that perhaps his attempt to be positive was out of place. He felt very out of place, but something that brought him into this situation and clearly Dr. Tot felt he could be of some use. Erlein was jarred from his thoughts when the aircar began to break and slowed to a stop, the metallic door opening revealing the path to the airship.
Cid's ship was impressive, much more impressive then his little dingy. It was towering, grand looking old wood and polished steel and iron. The cannons alone were amazing. He wondered what it would be like to pilot such a craft. Walking towards the boarding plank Erlein forgot about the others. He felt the coarseness of the ropes which lined the walk upwards, it was the most impressive airship he had ever seen.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

Not too far from the aircab, the group stumbled upon the airship that Cid had prepared for them. The ship was massive, much larger than the one that Erlein himself had, but more than that, it was larger than even the one that Vivi traveled on in his previous adventures. Vivi stopped before the boarding plank and admired the ship. It towered above them. Vivi could only imagine the different types of accommodations aboard the ship. The ship also came with significant firepower, something that would have been very helpful against the Mighty Zu that destroyed their previous ship.
However, the ship also gave him worry. Why would they need such a ship? This ship was built for a long adventure, one that could take many weeks or even months. It had the firepower to destroy many enemies. This only made Vivi understand that there could be a lot more to their quest than they realized. With that, Vivi gathered himself and walked aboard the airship, ready to begin their next adventure.

Frantz stood looking at the airship in wonder and felt most of his worries fall away. Compared to Erlein's ship, it seemed odd to even refer to this as an airship. It was on another level and seemed to be built more secure than the ground Frantz stood on now. Their trip to the Iifa Tree seemed like it would be much safer than their trip from Alexandria Castle to Treno, something Frantz looked forward it. “At least we are as prepared as possible with this airship.” Frantz could tell Erlein was impressed by the airship which spoke volumes for how far above it was all other airships, but something about Vivi seemed off. Frantz hadn't been around the black mage for long enough to understand his unique body language, but it seemed like he might have been looking down a little more than usual. Frantz wished to reassure him, but hesistated as he felt his stomach start to rumble, “That reminds me. Where are those personal cooks?”

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

Waiting at the end of the gangway that lead them aboard the massive airship a tall man in plate armor stood, clearly waiting for their arrival. Erlein moved towards him, hearing Frantz question as he waited for the others to become fully on board the ship.
” Yes you must all be hungry and it will take several hours to reach the Iifa Tree, you all should follow me to the Galley and your quarters.” The soldier in waiting replied, motioning for the the four of them to follow.
” A hot meal sounds pretty good right about now.” Erlein agreed as he fell in line with the soldier and the others and crossed the massive deck of the airship towards a door near what was surely the bridge that lead them down into the bowels of the ship. The passageway down was tight but soon opened into quite a large room with tables and seating all around. The aromas of foods drifted all around them from the nearby kitchen. There was much activity around them, people running back and forth and not even realizing it until a moment later Erlein felt the ship rock and shack briefly as it took flight.
” Please everyone take a seat, the cooks lead by our amazing chef have almost finished and will serve you soon.” The soldier said as he waved his arm inviting the group to choose anywhere to sit inside the large galley.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

While VIvi had his worries, he quite agreed with Frantz's question, food was definitely paramount.  All of the traveling they had done, they had not taken a chance to stop and recuperate. So, Vivi stepped in line and followed the rest of the party down into the bowels of the ship.  At first, things seemed a little cramp as they passed through the corridors, but as they reached the bottom, the airship sprawled open.  A massive room lay before them with tables and chairs arranged, no doubt for their pleasure.  The aroma of food wafted throughout the room, the kitchen must have been adjacent.  As Vivi looked around, the Soldier that had led them down announced that the food would be served shortly and that they should take their seats.
As if by miracle, Vivi's spirits had lifted at the thought of eating and resting before their long journey.  Quickly, he made his way over to the table and hopped up into the chair, laying his staff to lean up against his chair.

“Let's eat!” Vivi exclaimed.

Frantz smiled as the party was immediately brought down to where the food would be served. As he traveled deeper into the ship, Frantz felt more of his worries go away. The size of the ship caused him to feel like he was inside of a building and not into a form of transportation. This illusion dissipated for a moment as the ship rocked as it took off towards the Iifa Tree, but the airship moved so smoothly that he was able to remain calm and composed. “You said it, Vivi. I'm wonder what the chef has made for us.” Frantz looked around as he removed his lance from his back and leaned it against his own chair as he took a seat with the rest of the group.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

The mention of the meal seemed to have removed the foreboding sense of duty that up to this point had grasped them all, though a quick look over at Freya might bring it back. Erlein sat with the others, feeling a sense of excitement return as the double doors into the kitchen burst open and several men in stark white outfits began to lay silver platters heaping with delicious foods in front of them. Erlein took his eyes off the food for only a moment, when he caught sight of the chef, who had moved through the doorway and now stood, tongue wagging, at the table side.
” It Vivi and Freya! And uh..? ” Quina began with excitement upon seeing old friends before trailing off trying to decide about Erlein and Frantz. ” Where are Zidane and Others?” Quina asked, looking to Vivi and Freya.
” Who is this guy.. or uh..?” Erlein found himself asking, as he leaned in close to Frantz. The chef seemed to know the others but Erlein couldn't figure it out.
