  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

The smell of food began to waft stronger throughout the room as if the food began to creep closer and closer to them. Sure enough, the doors from the kitchen swung open and a line of men paraded through it, carrying various trays of food. Quickly, they laid the food out upon the table, and as they did, the head chef appeared. It was a friendly face, another one that Vivi had travelled with before, they now had a sort of reunion going on.

“Quina!” Vivi exclaimed, visibly excited to see another familiar face. Quina had been there for Vivi as he struggled through the realizations of what he was and what he wasn't during their prior adventures and his presence were greatly welcomed. However, his question only brought sorrow.

“Zidane has not returned and now Dagger has gone missing!” Vivi answered him.

A low growl came from below the table as Frantz caught a wiff of the food and saw the chefs come into the room. Frantz was too engulfed in the smell and the thought of food that he did not notice the head chef come into the room until the Qu approached the table and Vivi. Instictively, Frantz went to reach for his food thinking the creature was trying to steal it due to the sight of its tongue hanging out. It was not until he heard Quina address Vivi that he notice the chef's outfit and realized this must have been the chef that the Reagent was talking about. Frantz did his best to play off his shock by grabbing his silverware and began eating. Shrugging his shoulders at Erlein's question, Frantz spoke between bites, “Not sure….Who's your…friend Vivi?…They sure know…how to cook.” The chef may have been a little shocking, but cooking food like what Frantz was eating made him glad they knew Vivi.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

Erlein had begun to eat, the hunger of their journey so far enough to drive him to the food in front of him even though much more was going on around them. He was at first surprised then, realizing his mistake, less so as Vivi reunited with yet another ally— After all he had heard the name Quina many times but never had put the face in front of him to it.
” Zidane still not return, but Mist return.” Quina replied, clearly understanding the weight of the situation that Vivi had described. ” We find.” Quina was very matter of fact.
” Uh.. Mr..ms… Quina, this meal is amazing!” Erlein was talking and chewing with his mouth stuffed. ” I guess you'll be going with us to the Iifa Tree then?” Erlein found himself asking, his mouth still full of food, but realizing too late that Quina had basically answered his question already.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

Underneath his cloak, Vivi let out a small smile, something no one else would ever be able to see, but a smile nonetheless. He was happy to see his new teammates hungrily dig into their dinner plates. They had journeyed for what seemed like quite some time now, though realistically only about a day and a half or so had passed but this was their first time to feel like they could truly relax.
”I'm glad you're joining us Quina,” Vivi stated, with some small excitement in his voice. With his old team and his new team, Vivi knew that while things may get tougher, they had a fighting chance to withstand whatever they may stumble upon.
   ”
We met Quina shortly after we left Lindblum. They were at the Qu Marsh. Quina here, is very wise and very strong. They are able to steal the abilities of our foes and use them against them,” Vivi answered Frantz. After answering, Vivi finally picked up his silverware and began to dig into his own plate, finally satisfying that hunger he had been feeling.

Frantz nodded his head towards Quina in greeting as he stuffed his mouth with his first bite from the food. By the taste of it, Frantz would have thought that he hadn't have eaten in over a week. “Thankful…to have you…as part of…the team.” Frantz spoke between bites as he couldn't steer himself away from the delicious taste. Frantz swallowed hard as he noticed he was eating too quickly and took a deep breath as he gathered himself, “If you're fighting is half as good as your cooking, then we'll have no problems.” Frantz smiled to Quina as he gathered himself and began digging in for his second round of food. Frantz forgetting for a brief moment about the Mist, the monsters, and flying in the taste of their dinner.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

The airship rocked lightly with the wind as the party sat around the large oaken table within it's galley. Erlein was stuffed and leaned back in his chair as he gave out a loud sigh, full and now feeling the tiredness begin to overtake him. Looking around the others seemed to be in the same shape and before he could speak the soldier who had brought them into the belly of the airship stepped forward.
” Surely you all would like some rest, it will be many hours until we arrive at the Iifa tree and all of your quarters have been prepared.” The soldier had said, his arm outstretched towards the barracks where they would all share a room.
” I could definitely use some rest.” Erlein replied as he stood up, and after giving a little nod to the others walked through a doorway that would lead him to the barracks.
The barracks were small, Erlein assumed there were more then one sleeping quarters like this aboard but there were beds for six and Erlein quickly found the soft mattress of the nearest bunk and passed out almost immediately, the light sway of the airship rocking him to sleep. A knock at the door awoke him, hours later, followed by a now familiar voice.
” We're nearing the Iifa Tree, we'll be arriving in forty five minutes or so.” The soldier's voice called to them through the door.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

The meal was quickly winding down, food has disappeared from the plates and their bellies became full. With full bellies and a renewed sense of vigour, the party's spirits seemed to have grown. However, with full bellies, comes sleepiness. With perfect timing, the soldier that had escorted them down here spoke up and told them about their room that had been prepared for them. Apparently, many hours separated them and the Iifa Tree and so Vivi was looking forward to some rest. Erlein quickly agreed to get some rest and Vivi quickly followed.
   ”
Me too,” Vivi stated, shifting his body to the side and hopping off of his chair. He picked up his staff and followed the group to the barracks room. It was a decent enough size. It had six beds spread throughout it with trunks at the foot of them for storage. Vivi made his way over to a far bed and set his staff inside the trunk.
Vivi climbed up on the bed and sat there with his feet dangling off the side. The past day and a half flooded through his mind, from the Alexandria to the mighty Zu that they fought and the Roo that brought them here. It had been quite a busy time and things were only going to escalate from here.
With that, Vivia brought his feet up and turned and laid down upon the bed. It seemed like only seconds has passed when Vivi had the voice at the door, letting them know of their imminent arrival. Slowly, Vivi raised up and hopped off the bed. The chest creaked as he opened it up and grabbed his staff and walked towards the door to leave the barracks.

Frantz had not been aware of how hungry he was until he looked down at the three now empty plates in front of him. Similar to his hunger, it was not until he was reminded of rest that he realized how long it had been since he had slept. “Nothing better than some sleep after a great meal.” Frantz said as he stood up and followed the crew towards the shared living quarters. He picked one of the beds and laid down as the itis kicked in after the long meal. His last thoughts before drifting off was a reminder that he was airborne even though the ride was so smooth.

The soldier within Frantz caused him to wake up immediately following the knock on the door and was on his feet at the first indication that they were arriving at their destination. Though he had become more comfortable, Frantz was ready to get off this airship and back onto solid ground. With spear in hand, Frantz followed behind Vivi towards the door.

  Chapter II: The Crystalline Conundrum

The knock seemed to stir the entire party from their needed slumber. Erlein felt the airship yawing and correcting itself as he got to his feet, he wondered what kind of perpendicular winds were gusting across the deck, something told him he would find out soon.
” Guess we better head topside and take a look.” Erlein said to the others as he was gathering his pack and heading towards the door, bracing himself against the wall as he walked.
Upon exiting the barracks Erlein looks both ways down the connecting corridor, trying his best in his groggy state to remember they way they had come in. Deciding he had it figured out Erlein took his turn and make his way back through the dining area and once he found the right doorway, up the steep steps towards the deck. Reaching the door, Erlein pushed and felt the wind catch the door and pull. He held firm, and with a tell tell look or uneasiness back to the others he stepped out onto the deck of the airship.

He was aware of the mist almost instantly, it was humid and the light from the morning sun was refracted through the dense like fog. Visibility was low and the wind was indeed strong, whipping at his clothing from the starboard side of the airship. There was much activity on deck, hands running through the dense mist with ropes, some pulling, others tying. It was quite the effort he thought. Erlein had a flashback from two days prior, the Garuda hiding in the mist. He shivered, wondering what else was lurking out there just out of sight.
” Seems like this is going to be a rough ride the rest of the way.” Erlein muttered to himself and the others, his eyes looking ahead through the mist for any signs of the Iifa Tree.
