Koichi was surprised by the speed of the little winged demon, who managed a quick maneuver around the edge of his spirit blade and before Koichi could take another swipe was already far out of range. The tall former Yakuza just stood there looking at the sky for several moments, trying to put together what actually had just happened when Ichii commented that Hideki had no pulse.
” He's dead? Just like that? ” He asked as he took a few steps towards the fallen Yakuza when he heard the incoherent sounds of Ren regaining consciousness. ” So what are we looking for here anyway? You think he knows something? ” Koichi asked as he motioned towards Ren. |

Case One: Demons Abound |
|

Iichi remained silent as he examined each part of Hideki's body with intent interests. The sun hung low in the sky with shadows beginning to stretch far around them. “His body, his muscles. They contain…Yoki…demon energy.” Iichi looked up at Hideki with a little of utter confusion, “A human body shouldn't be capable of doing so, even if possessed by a demon.” The usual carefree atmosphere of Iichi was dissolved as he stared at something he could not understand. His right palm reached out to his messenger bag which flew to meet it's own. He rummaged through the bag until he found a small metal half-sphere which he placed on the middle of Hideki's chest, “That will protect it from those who aren't spiritually aware until Botan can pick it up for me.”
“Ugh…what did you two do to Hideki?” Ren shouted in anger as he fought against the tight bonds that Iichi had placed around him. Iichi stood up from Hideki's body and moved towards Koichi. “I sense not even Reiki from him, so I doubt it.” Iichi said with a shrug. He reached into his bag and pulled out a small silver cylinder with a red lens at the top of one side. With a flick of his finger, the side with the lends flipped up. Iichi whispered as Ren looked at them enraged, “We still have a case here.” Iichi said nodded towards Koichi's watch, “This will send a small amount of Yoki through the optical nerve. To anyone with any spiritual ability, it will do nothing. To your friend over there.” Iichi nodded to Ren, “It will erase their memory for next hour and the past 24 hours. Figured you may like your old employers to still think your gone.”

Koichi stood back looking over Ichii as he examined Hideki's body, still really not sure about this whole afterlife thing he had found himself part of. He listened to Ichii's explanations and watched as he rummaged through his bag, pulling out yet another item that to Koichi just looked like some old junk.
” Probably a good idea, especially if they have demons in their ranks… ” Koichi replied having followed Ichii to where Ren was, taking the small device from his partner, using it instinctively in the way that Ichii has described. ” I guess we better track down the demon we ARE looking for. ” Koichi said as he reached into his slack pocket, pulling the old watch sized device which was set to locate the demon energy of the mastermind. |

Ren's eyes went blank as the red light made contact with his eyes. Iichi opened his palm towards Ren and the white wrapped unwounded from Ren and flew under Iichi's right sleeve, disappearing within. Ren stood up, his eyes not looking around as he got to his feet and began walking down the street back towards where Koichi and Ren had come from, completely unaware of his surroundings.
The watch in Koichi's hand showed a blue light in the third of five circle, “5 to 10 kilometers, not too far away.” Iichi said peeking over at the watch. The light on the watch pointed towards the east of their current location, towards the industrial sector of town. Iichi looked towards Koichi and realized the gravity of what happened for the new spirit detective, “You may have died, but this is your first time actually seeing a demon, huh? Let's follow the watch and I'll answer any questions you have.”

Koichi stood upright like a statue as Ren was affected by the red light from the object which Ichii had given to him, sending him down the street from which they had come in a sort of daze. Pocketing the small cylindrical object, Koichi watched for a few moments before turning his attention back to the compass that had been given to him.
” I would have never thought demons would have been what they are, but I'm guessing I still have a lot to learn. ” Koichi replied as he continued to look down at the faint beeping of the object that would lead them towards the next demon, the one they were really after. ” We should probably get a move on. ” Koichi said, realizing they had a long walk ahead of them, putting one foot ahead of the other as he started towards the industrial district, his mind already wandering, trying to ready himself for whatever situation he was about to find himself in. |

Case One: Demons Abound |

The pair walked through the streets following the watch as the sun began to cast long shadows from the tall buildings. The residential buildings began to fade away and was replaced by large warehouse buildings that had mostly gone quiet as the sun hide behind the horizon and the workers had gone home to rest. “Kinda creepy at night, huh.” Iichi said mainly to himself as the watch guided them through the industrial district until they began to hear the sounds of a truck backing up followed by shouting.
“Let's move. This is the last truck then we are out of here.” Iichi looked over at Koichi then at the watch. The light was now within the second most inner circle, within a half kilometer, and pointed towards the sound, “Let's be careful.” Iichi said as he moved closer to the nearest warehouse instead of being out of the open. As he looked inside to the warehouse, it appeared to been abandoned for some time without anyone using it.
As the two approached the sound, they caught sight of a young man, late teens, with red hair and sharp teeth yelling into the warehouse. A large truck was backed up into it with a lot of motion can be seen moving around the back of the truck and around the warehouse beginning to pack the truck. Iichi stopped at the edge of the nearest warehouse looking around the corner, staying in the shadow of the unused warehouse.

To Koichi it seemed like the two had been walking increasingly lonely and abandoned streets for hours, following the small radar like screen on the mystical watch he had been handed much earlier in the day. The walk itself had been mostly quiet, Koichi didn't like to make small talk and he was still unsure about this kid they had stuck him with, he had proven to be a surprise in combat though, that was something. The former Yakuza simply grunted in agreement at Ichii's remarks as he noticed their surroundings had become less “industrial district” and more “gang territory” the kind of place where all the buildings were empty except when some kind of deal was going down.
” This looks like trouble. ” Koichi broke his silence as he too moved into the darkness around the wall of the old warehouse, noticing what street light there was had become pretty dim over the years. Peeking in, he saw the young red-headed man, he seemed to be calling the shots and something about him was off. ” That's probably our guy, how many others do you see? ” Koichi said before asking, wondering if his own count was close. |

Iichi looked out to the warehouses with squinted eyes. He counted the teen with red hair, an demon for sure, then caught sight of the person in the driver seat of the truck. Figured darted back and forth from behind the truck in the warehouse made it difficult to keep track of the count. “There's a driver and 3 or 4 possibly working in the warehouse.” Iichi guessed as he continued to look towards the warehouse.
“Come on!” Yelled the teen towards the warehouse, “The boss will be here any minute. You're gonna all want to be gone. Don't want to be around in case the boss is hungry” The teen laughed as the figured began to move faster. The night was cover the sky completely with only the lights in the district keeping things illuminated. Two lamps hung over a side door towards the front of the warehouse, “If he's in charge, I'd bet it's just a bunch of humans, maybe possessed like our buddy from before.” Ichii pointed over to the door. Their current warehouse's back entrance gave a dark corridor to that door, “Seems we could sneak in there, make some noise through the front, wait for the truck to head out, or anything else.” Iichi shrugged as he looked towards the Koichi.

Koichi focused his eyes on the truck and the red headed kid, struggling to make out any real details in the low light. He was happy that Ichii had come up with roughly the same amount of people in there as he had, but they still were out numbered and if they were possessed demons like Hideki then it could be troublesome. Then there was this talk from the red head about “The Boss” He didn't like the sound of that.
” Let's sneak in first, and we should probably be quick about it. Whatever they're after could be on that truck though, so we need to keep them here if we can. ” Koichi said as he got close to the wall they were against, lowering himself as much as he could as he started to follow the shadows to the open door. ” We have to get in the door under those lights somehow, you want to make some noise so we can slip through? ” Koichi asked as they neared the illuminated door. |

Iichi followed closely behind Koichi as they kept to the shadows towards the warehouse. “Let's hurry!” The teen shouted from the front as he paced back and forth, “Fuck. All because of that idiot…” The teen speaking more to himself as he continued to pace and looked down the road awaiting most likely his boss.
Iichi smiled and nodded towards Koichi's request. His hand darted towards his messenger bag. He began pulling out items, shaking his head, then putting it back inside. First a crossbow, then a golden gauntlet, then a black icosahedron. Finally Iichi pulled a small silver sphere with a light on the front. “This is a portable light I can control.” Iichi threw the sphere in the air. The sphere floated for a few moments then flew back off in the direction the pair had traveled. After several seconds, a light could be seen in the warehouse across from the abandoned one the pair had gotten out of. Crash. Glass could be heard shattering from the same warehouse.
“What the?!” The teen yelled as he looked towards the sound and saw the light that appeared to be from a flashlight. The four workers loading the truck made their way to the front of the truck as they looked towards the sound. “You!” The teen yelled and pointed at one of the four, “Go check that out. Probably just some unfortunate kids causing trouble.” The teen watched as the man walked away and as his body disappeared in the darkness he looked back at the three, “Get back to packing!”

Koichi had not witnessed Ichii digging through his bag—which apparently held an unknown amount of useful items—and pulling the small orb until Ichii was already explaining it and sending it flying into the warehouse. Taking and releasing a deep breath, Koichi calmed his nerves, knowing they were about to have whatever small window to get inside and after that things would likely move to fast to strategize.
” Now! ”Koichi said with a strong whisper, hearing the sound of something breaking in the dark recesses of the warehouse and seeing through the open door everyone's eyes look into the darkness.
Koichi moved quickly for his height, moved through the lighted doorway into the space of the warehouse. Ahead of him, he say the tall stake of crates and boxes, he moved as quietly as possible through the open space and got low behind the crates, feeling his heart beating as he took deep quiet breaths. |

Iichi moved quickly behind Koichi into the warehouse. They both moved quick, hiding behind the stack of crates before the three worker came back and began packing the stack of boxes the two crotched behind. Only one of the workers came to their stack with the other two working on the one across from them. The wooden boxes were indistinct for the most apart aside from the name “Satoshi Delivery” written in black ink across them. Koichi would recognize this as one of the fronts for his yakuza. Should Koichi get the opportunity, he would see horns peeking out from the head of one of the workers working on the boxes across from them, none of either of the workers.
The sound of a car engine could be heard through the silent industrial section as headlights illuminate the dark sections, “You.” The teen could be heard talking, “Go help them while I greet the boss.” The door to the truck opened while footsteps could be heard heading down the road. “That idiot better have handled that noise by now.” The teen's voice become quieter as he walked down the path to meet his boss. A hornless driver grunted as he closed the truck door and began loading crates in the stack hiding the two. Iichi looked towards Koichi, pointed to an invisible watch on his right wrist, then dragged his thumb across his neck. Hoping Koichi understood.

There was a coolness to the night air that rippled in through the open doors into the old warehouse, enough to send a wave of chills down Koichi's spine as his breath slowed after the quick sprint inside. There was a lot of movement and some chatter but all he really caught was the red headed one leaving, to meet “the boss” which he still didn't like the sound of. Glancing past the large black stamps of Satoshi Delivery on the crates he met eyes with Ichii who, with his own motions seemed to be concerned with how much time they had left. Koichi took in a long deep breath which he exhaled slowly as he made up his mind, all this sneaking shit wasn't his style, plus the only tough looking one of them had gone off to meet the boss, so it was time to raise some hell.
” Listen guys, I gotta tell you, having spent a good few years working for Yakuza thugs I have to really suggest a different career path. ” Koichi raised his voice as he stood up and causally walked out from behind the stack of crates. ” This second is as good of a time as any. Or else… ” Koichi trailed off as he slammed his right fist into the palm of his left hand with a shrug. |

The Yakuza members turned at the sound of Koichi. The sound of crates hitting the ground hard as their hands released what they were holding in shock. Iichi jumped up on top the stop of the stack of crates and waved with a smile and a wave towards the thugs. The thug with horns was not as startled as the others and quickly began shouting orders, “You both came at the wrong time. Go get the boss. And you two, stop dozing and get him.” The demon shouted towards the human closest to him.
The thug began running towards the exit of the warehouse when a white cloth flew from Iichi hand and wrapped around the fleeing thugs forearm. Iichi pulled himself forward use the cloth and kicked the thug with both feet. “He seems busy, no reason to bother them.” Iichi said with a sly grin.
The two human thugs moved towards Koichi, forming a semi circle around the spirit detective. Each reached into their pockets and brandished switch blades from within.

The sounds of things dropping and hitting the hard concrete floor reverberated through the openness of the warehouse. Koichi had startled them, and even if the leader of this group seemed confident, it wouldn't matter. Not even bothering to pay attention to what was happening behind him, trusting Ichii to deal with the runner, Koichi simply held his ground, a sly smirk curling upon his face.
” A knife fight? Oh man, you guys really picked the wrong guy to try that with. ” The ex-Yakuza said as the two thugs spaced out, both pulling switch blades that shimmered in the overhead lighting of the warehouse. ” See the thing is, my knife it's bigger, and well.. you'll see. ” Koichi trailed off as he focused his spirit energy, remembering how the blade had come to him earlier in the day in the fight with Hideki. It happened faster this time, something had clicked, and with the sound of rippling energy the spirit blade manifested itself in Koichi's hand. ” Now this.. This is a knife. ” Koichi chuckled at the movie reference, waiting for the thugs to make their move. |

The two human Yakuza members stared in disbelief as a blade of shimmering energy appeared in Koichi's hand. Neither had seen anything like that before. They stared as their tiny switch blades and began to back up in fear. The demon Yakuza, sensing their fear, growled in anger, “You idiots.” The demon moved forward and performed a round house kick to one of the humans. The force of the kick propelled the first human into the other human and sent both flying towards the back of the warehouse, sounds of bones cracking as both laid in a pile on the ground.
Iichi looked under his feet at the Yakuza he now stood on. The body laid motionless, “Oops, guess I got carried away.” Iichi said with a shrug as he stepped off the body and peeked down the road, worried the noise had caught the attention of the boss. The lights from the car remained distant down the ground, the shadow of the teen visible against the light.
The demon faced down at Koichi with a snarl, “You two must have been the ones Hideki ran into to. Don't think I'm anything like that loser.” The demon rushed forward swinging his foot towards the side of Koichi's abdomen.

Koichi leaned in, bracing for the blow and fully expecting it to hurt. The kick caught his arm and send him flying backwards from the force, the back of the truck the were loading proving to be the stopping point after the strike. He hoped that the demon had his full attention on him, enough to make an opening for Ichii, he figured he could spur him on some more to make sure.
” Hideki? man we took care of him like he was nothing, you seem pretty much the same. ” Koichi said as he felt the ripples of pain surging up his arm, sure that this guy hit harder than Hideki could ever dream of but not willing to announce that to the world. ” Why don't you actually try to hit me hard, instead of playing around? ” Koichi continued, flicking a quick eye towards Ichii hoping that he could see his open spot and give him a solid shot before the next attack came. |

The demon stared at Koichi, his eyes showing a great anger behind them as he was insulted by Koichi, “You puny human. Think since you can use a little energy that means anything?! You have no idea” The demon drew back his right arm and similar to Hideki it began to grow, the veins becoming exaggerated. A demon attempted to move his arm forward until he found a white cloth wrapped around his bicep. Following quickly behind the cloth was a young boy and his messenger bag. The demon barely had time to register what was happening when he found two boots hitting him square in the face.
“Yaho-” Iichi's cry of joy was cut short when he found his feet still on the demon's face. The demon stayed strong on his feet, his body only bending sideways to take the force. The demon's powered up arm came up and grabbed Iichi by the collar and throwing him into the ground. Iichi hit the ground hard and rolled away to gain some distance. “What did they do to you?” Iichi said under his breath as he tried to get back on his feet.

Koichi watched for his opening as Ichii went hurling through the air, both feet straight out in from of him. His soles landed squarely on the demon's face with less force than he had hoped but it was still enough of an opening for him to make his move. Skirting around quickly Koichi tried toi get behind the behemoth as fast as he could then with a burst of speed he had been saving for something just like this he darted forward taking a slashing arc with his right arm as he attempted to cut across the Yakuza's wide back.
” As long as we spread out he can't watch us both! ” Koichi said loud enough for Ichii to hear but not loud enough to leave the warehouse, aware that there were others out there he'd like to deal with separately. |

Case One: Demons Abound |

Koichi's energy blade tore through the back of the demon. The demon hunched his shoulder as he flexed his back muscles. The muscles grew, coming together and hiding the wound. “You worm!” The demon grunted as he turned to face Koichi. The demon squeezed both his fists and the bicep and forearm on his left arm began to grow. His right arm, the white cloth still hanging from the bicep, remained the same size. The demon, seemingly unaware of this asymmetry, threw a left hook towards Koichi.
A white cloth wrapped itself around the demon left's bicep. The cloth was taut holding the demons arm back and attached firmly to the bumper of the truck, the muscle's density begin to decrease. “Not a bad plan, I got the back.” Iichi ran forward and punched the demon where the wound remained hidden behind the muscles.
