Eastlake
Hugging the northern bank of the Alexander River, the community of Eastlake was originally one of the first expansions of territory for Ulysses. Originally planned as a housing community for the families starting after the end of World War II, Eastlake expanded quickly, but soon fell out of favor due to it’s proximity to the new downtown center located across the river. In the years since the building boom of the late 50s and 60s Eastlake has fallen on hard times, overshadowed by the exponential growth of Downtown Ulysses due south, and of Loyal Heights and other suburbs near the city center to the north. Though financially the area has fallen on hard times it is still one of the most densely populated areas of the city, and while not as strong of a commercial center as Downtown of neighboring Cedar Park it does still hold several commercial areas, most notably the popular Eastlake Strip Mall which is home to several popular outlets and stores.
