Ft. Adair Military Base
Located on the north side of the Alexander River, just east of the central city and suburbs, Ft. Adair Military Base was founded in 1943 as an air force establishment, where planes could quickly be brought into action if there was ever a Japanese attack on the American North West. In 1952 the base was converted in to an Army Facility and remains so today. Though it’s a relatively small base in size, and much of what was originally air field has now been claimed and built on, Ft. Adair does have a large presence in the Ulysses community. It’s close proximity to the nearby Ulysses dockyards make for great side employment for stationed soldiers who very regularly work part time at the docks for extra money. Ft. Adair has also in recent years become more involved in army research, starting in 1976 when the Byrnes Research Facility was opened on base, and continuing to this day, though exact knowledge on what the facility is being used for is unknown and has sense become public rumor for a decade now.
