  Adventure: Reminiscence

The night was cool Jonas thought as he exited the Porre inn onto a beaten dirt road that snaked past a few houses barely lit in the night. The cafe was a short walk along that dirt road and it gave Jonas time to reflect on how he ended up here in this place, in this time. He had been feeling as though he lost his way, the path that he had been thrust upon back in his own time was becoming hard to follow now. He sensed that he still had some role to play in everything, yet the fear of missing the signs was very real now. Shaking off his thoughts Jonas had reached the cafe which seemed, even at this hour of the night, quite active.
” Hopefully Soren is here, and maybe some of the others as well. ” Jonas said to himself as he reached the massive wooden doors painted red and entered.

The cafe was bustling with activity, dirty bearded men sat around tables downing pints of dark liquids and laughing their raucous laughter. Several pretty young women moved through the tables with smiles on their faces as the took food and drink to all the various patrons, but Jonas was not interesting in them, he was looking for familiar faces.

  Adventure: Reminiscence
It had been a long, simple, and uneventful day of travel for the blademaster; when Soren had parted ways with Jonas they had agreed to meet up again in Porre. In the meanwhile he had explored the countryside, delved through ruins, fought off bandits and beasts, and just enjoyed the adventure. Yet all the same when he had finally arrived in Porre he felt a great relief to finally put it all behind him. It was days like this one had taught him a valuable lesson: when nothing of import happens, there is no adventure, it's simply putting one boot in front of the other and without companions such moments rapidly devolve into excruciating monotony. All things as they were Soren was more than ready to find the nearest bed and find rest, if only to put today behind him.
By sheer chance a cafe caught his eye, and for a moment he considered passing it by, yet for some reason or another Soren found himself walking through those massive red doors. It was far more crowded than he would have otherwise thought given the hour, but after so much time alone the sheer presence of others who bore him no ill will was itself a comfort. With a weary gaze he searched the room for a table, before settling upon one in the far corner. It was a relief to at long last be off his legs, but before he could flag down a waitress to take his order his vision fell upon a very familiar figure searching the room like a hawk. An unbidden chuckle escaped him; perhaps it was not chance, but fate, that had lead him here. Soren leaned back in the chair and offered a casual wave to his friend in order to catch his attention.

“We're not looking for any trouble. We just need a place to rest.” Aegir raised his voice with a stern tone to make himself clear to the small mob that had gathered around him and his robotic companion outside the Porre cafe. His gold hair billowed in the night's breeze as he crossed his arms and studied the crowd with his silver eyes. Their persistent uproar rang in his ear like a bad engine, compounding the headache he'd already gotten from strenuous events earlier in the day. He turned his head to the left and glanced at the sentient machine next to him that seemed to be recieving its fair share of insults and threats.

“Maybe we should just go…” Aegir murmured back to the mecha before he turned his attention back to the crowd. He hadn't seen such prejudice like this since the time he spent with the Enlightened Ones in the Kingdom of Zeal. The tension tested his nerves. These weren't the same enemies he knew from his own era, but he was beginning to think they might pose a bit of a problem. Part of him itched for combat, to unleash the bottled strife within him, but the recent loss of his crew and trip through time had left him far too exhausted to fight all of them alone. He theorized he could take out enough of them if it was necessary to escape, and he hoped his new ally would be able to do the same if that's what the situation boiled down to. “What do you think?” He calmly asked the metal being as his eyes scanned the area like a hawk.

R-67B looked from side to side as he took into the crowd that has formed around him and Aegir. His audio receptors took in each remark thrown their way and tried to process exactly what was happening. Neither Aegir or himself has done anything that he could recognize to cause this group trouble yet their body language and words carried an air of hate. R-67B looked over at Aegir,
“No. You need a place to rest. We have money that should work here, there is no reason we can't find that here.” The mecha attempted to deliberately manipulated his cold, stern voice trying to carry with it a concern for Aegir. R-67B turned back towards the crowd and raised the volume of his voice to be heard over the crowd, “Please move so that we may gain some sustenance.” His voice cut threw the chatter of the crowd. While his words were a request, his mechanical tone left little indication of looking for a response.

Jonas had let his eyes scan the room completely from left to right when he finally came to the final table, tucked on it's own in the far right corner. Seated there casually was a face he hadn't seen in several months, the one he had hoped he would see upon arriving here in Porre—It was Soren. The adventurer felt his shoulders loosen almost at once, the stress that had been weighing him down due to the events that had occurred seemed to be instantly lifted, finally maybe he could find the right path again now that he had help.
” You made it, I didn't know if I was going to make it back here myself. ” Jonas said as he moved quickly through the crowd, maneuvering past a bar maid to reach the out of the way table. ” What have you been doing since— ” Jonas was cut off just as he pulled one of the free chairs from the table, hoping to sit down and catch up with Soren. There seemed to be a good deal of shouting coming from the door and outside, and everyone inside was now looking back in the direction that Jonas had just come from, some of them with less than desirable looks. ” Wonder what's going on out there, come on. ” Jonas motioned for Soren to follow him as he started back through the crowd towards the door.

With a wry smirk Soren simply leaned back in the chair and waited as Jonas made his approach. When his friend began to speak the blademaster couldn't help but feel relieved, glad that his arduous and lonely journey was finally over. Yet their reunion was cut short as shouts from outside echoed through the cafe, denying his companion the chance to take a seat. Soren narrowed his eyes cautiously as he glanced toward those big red doors. Whatever it was didn't sound like it would end well if left alone. “I agree.” Soren declared as he rose to his feet, hastily making his way toward the exit. It almost felt awkward making his way out of the building now that the crowd was focused upon the events happening outside, but he paid it little mind and quickly made his exit through those massive double doors.
It was immediately obvious that a mob had gathered outside, and to Soren it was almost blatantly obvious why. Given recent events in this time period it was doubtful the townsfolk would be content with allowing inhuman visitors, regardless of the circumstances. “Jonas,” Soren called out to his friend in a low voice. “I feel we need to do something; if we don't it seems unlikely to end well.” With that Soren strode forward, and moved his left hand to rest comfortably upon the pommel of the katana hanging from his left hip. “Excuse me!” Soren called out loud as he could, to be heard over the din of the crowd. Cautiously he made his way through the crowd before him, until he emerged in the center with the other two. “You're far away from home, friend.” Soren declared as he looked at the pair with a blank expression. “I've a camp on the outskirts; if you need a place to rest I can provide it, but it's best you honor these folk's wishes.”

“You hear that, Gears?” Aegir tried to force a faint smile at the good news, and patted his left hand against the robot's right shoulder as he glanced over at his mechanical ally. “Looks like we got a place to rest after all.” He then lowered his arms to his sides and ignored the outraged mob that surrounded them, instead nodding respectfully to the unnamed man that had offered to help them. He wasn't sure if he could completely trust the stranger yet, but he didn't have much of a choice. “Thank you for your generosity.” His soft and steady tone was slightly formal and graceful, as though he spoke to someone who he believed was of a higher station than himself.

“We will leave at once.” He gently raised his voice to address the rest of the villagers. “Thank you for your cooperation and hospitality.” A hint of sarcasm was in his voice as he closed his eyes, placed his right hand over his chest, and lightly bowed to the folks who shunned him. Deep down he resented the people, masking his true feelings behind a false demeanor. A defensive mannerism he picked up during his time in captive servitude to keep his true intentions hidden.

Without so much as looking at the people he then stood up straight once more, then started to head in the direction he and his robotic companion had entered the village from. The people behind him hesitated for a moment, staring up at the taller fishman with a clear hatred in their eyes before they finally relented and parted to allow them passage back out of the village. “By the way–” He began as he slightly turned his head to the red-headed man and continued toward the edge of town. “I am Aegir Elidari. This is…” He paused and looked over at the robot with an uncertain expression. “Well… I just call him, Gears.”

R67-B watched intently as the new person approached both Aegir and himself. His voice and body language seemed both friendly and familiar to Aegir. He tried to understand how this new person knew Aegir though he did understand that it was a better situation from the crowd. His mechanic head moved to meet Aegir as he felt his hand touch his shoulder. R67-B noticed the forced expression coming from Aegir though remained silent as he took the lead in this interaction and instead looked towards the crowd waiting to see any signs of immediate hostility. “Thank you for a place to rest.” R67-B stated towards the stranged with a nod showing a sign of recognition he had learned.

“I believe my friend here is confused. You all have shown neither of that.”
R67-B spun his head left to right as he looked at the entire crowd, “You have shown nothing, but hostility. You may want to work on that.” The mecha turned his body and followed behind Aegir confident that he had read that situation correctly despite the words of his associate. “Gears is fine, but why do you introduce yourself to a friend?” R67-B changed the pitch of his voice upwards at the end of his sentence to indicate a question.

  Adventure: Reminiscence

The raucous sound of the rabble had had taken Jonas off guard as he moved back through the large oaken doors into the warm still night. He had hesitated but Soren was swift and adept as usual, making up for any social shortcomings Jonas might find himself with, taking charge of the situation quickly and defusing it by simply suggesting they all leave together for his camp. Jonas had little time to react or say anything before they were putting the lights and sounds of the cafe behind them.
” You… you're an R-series automatron! ” Jonas finally spoke up, slowing to a stop in the middle of the old dirt road that they had taken from the cafe north. ” The same series as Robo, that's amazing. I'm Jonas by the way. ” The young man continued, obviously excited by the prospect of meeting an R-series, in 600a.d. none the less. He could not help but think about reading of Robo's heroic effort that would take place in Fiona's villa, not far from where they now stood, where the R-series had spent countless years planing and caring for the trees that would grow in to a grand forest in his home time. ” And wow, you're a mystic! ” Jonas suddenly blurted out again only now getting a good look at Aegir. For the first time in a long time he felt like something was happening, he had caught back up to destiny and found the path forward.
” So, uh. Where's this camp of yours Soren? ” Jonas asked, wondering why his friend had not simply rented a room at the inn as he had, after all it's only a short walk from the cafe.
