A tremble shook the ground in the dense primeval forest of sixty-five million B.C. Moments later another followed, rhythmic, growing stronger as the beast moved nearer. The crackling of tree branches joined in, as the creature pushed its way onward. Soon the tremors were like small earthquakes, ratting any nearby. The trees parted around a small clearing with a crash of branches and the roar of the colossal creature. It was big, twice the height of a man, and many times a man's weight. It's scales were a rich aquamarine, armored even on it's underbelly. It's eyes were yellow and reptilian, vicious full of hunger. The creature let out a bellowing roar that caused the jungle to come alive with movement, small creatures departing from danger. The Megasaur showed it's teeth, like daggers.

The heat and humidity were overbearing, a constant mugginess which enveloped sixty-five million BC. Jonas had no experience with this kind of heat, even on the hottest days in 1010 AD it hadn't come close to the heat of this place. His desire to explore has sent him out into the wilds, far wilder than those he had ever traversed before. The trees were massive, towering in the sky. The canopy was dense and blotted much of the sunlight keeping the forest floor in an ever present ominous darkness, even in the middle of the day. The place was filled with life of all kinds, much of it seemed aggressive to Jonas, but a sense of allure and adventure only grew with danger. Jonas was having the time of his life. ” This place is really amazing. ” Jonas said as he looked back to Demitri, who had accompanied him into the forest. Jonas stopped, his body feeling the first tremor move through the ground, followed rhythmically one after another growing in strength. It was clear that something big was moving there way and Jonas had no intention of letting such a creature get the drop on him, after all he had read the tales of this time and knew what colossal dangers lurked. Jonas quickly unlatched his blade, pulling the shimmering steel from it's scabbard. Ahead a clearing in the canopy let down a large pillar of light. Jonas moved for the clearing, anticipating the combat to come. ” Fighting amongst these trees is no good for swords or magic. ” Jonas rambled off as he picked up his pace, breaking through a dense thicket of briers as he entered the forest opening. Ahead the trees and branches crashed down around as the beast revealed itself. ” Oh boy… ” Were the only words to escape his mouth. Jonas acted quickly, realizing instantly that they would have the speed advantage. He darted across the clearly quickly leaping into the air several feet before he reached his foe. Jonas used his momentum to twist his body and blade into a feverish spin which thrust him even faster into the hard scales of the Megasaur. His blade cut true, gashing the creature across the ribs. Jonas landed with a roll doing his best to put as much distance between himself and his foe before it could return strike.

Traveling through time was such a fascinating thing. Outside of the immediate awe that came from the mere notion of galavanting throughout history, there was the remarkable opportunity to study the past. This was, in large part, why Demitri had been so eager to accompany Jonas as he adventured out into the prehistoric wilderness. That's not to say Demitri didn't enjoy adventuring, but he couldn't think of a better opportunity to study long extinct species of plants and animals. For all he knew, some of these plants could create extremely powerful medicine or poisons!
Demitri should have known better, however. After everything they'd been through, it should have been obvious that the forces at work wouldn't make such things easy. This became alarmingly apparent as their uneventful triapse through the forests suddenly took a turn for the worse, as the very ground they were walking on began to rumble under the weight of an incoming beast. This … would be fun.
Jonas had seen the beast first, and was the first to act. The thing was monstrously large, and house a set of teeth that Demitri had to see to have ever believed. They'd need to be extremely careful in this fight; not only was it's size an issue but it certainly appeared to be an apex predator.
As soon as Jonas finished his attack, Demitri wasted no time in acting himself. His guantlets conjured flames through a marvel of technology, and he unleashed the torrent upon the lumbering beast. “This thing is ridiculous! Jonas, perhaps we can combine our efforts against this thing?“

The Megasaur roared in anger as the two lowly humans attacked and wounded it. The hate swelled in it's massive yellow eyes, as it's strength was building. With deceptive speed the creature moved forward then twisting it's body it swung it's thick tail around with the force of a falling tree, smashing into Demitri.
Jonas could feel the additional heat of the flames lick his tunic and legs as he just barely got out of the path of Demitri's attack. For a moment he wondered if Demitri had known he would be able to escape the flames or just was willing to take the chance considering their foe. ” If we don't combine our efforts I think we'd both end up dead. ” Jonas belted out, a hint of humor in his voice but a tad more seriousness. He did honestly believe that one on one neither of them would be a match for such a creature, a fact that scared him. ” You're going to want to step back! ” Jonas shouted, his eyes drifted from the predator to Demitri to let him know he was extremely serious. With Demitri a safe distance Jonas thrust his blade into the ground at his side and launched his hands into the air. For a moment he appeared to levitate from the ground itself as the sky overhead grew dark and foreboding. Clouds gathered in a swirl and then like a bullet firing from a gun a burst of light came and went, traveling with the arc of lightning which had decended from the clouds and struct the Megasaur.

Luckily the force from the beast's attack upon Demitri had struck him with force strong enough to knock him well out of the way of Jonas's impressive lightning attack. This was using a loose definition of the world 'lucky', though, as the young inventor was struck with a force that was surely akin to being hit by a moving vehicle. He hadn't really been expecting such an attack, and he found the breath knocked out of him and he tumbled to the ground and rolled onto his back.
Gasping and then going right into a coughing fit, Demitri rolled backwards and back up to his feed, adrenaline not letting him linger upon the pain from the attack. He was pretty sure that had he not been in as good of physical condition as he currently was, that he'd have had a broken bone or two from the sheer force. Luckily, Jonas's lightning seemed to be of great effect upon the creature if it's reaction was any indication.
“Heh, I meant something a little more in unison. Quickly, strike at it with your blade and I'll augment your attack with my flames!” Demitri shouted to his companion, running towards Jonas and conjuring up flames one again. This time instead of firing them towards the megasaur, he imbued Jonas's sword with the power of fire as the fighter would no doubt attack their carnivorous foe with cyclone attack with his blade.

A deafening roar cut through the small clearing as the Megasaur was struck again and again by attacks more powerful then it could have expected from such small humans. Knowing no quit, no flight, it would fight on to the death. Lowering it's shoulders the creature opened it's massive mouth, the rows of sharp daggers littered with remains of festering meat. With a swivel of it's body it unleashed a torrent of fire which jetted like a flame thrower in an arc across the clearing torching both Jonas and Demitri.

Jonas had been impressed with Demitri's battle savvy, the idea of combining their own techniques into one had been quite successful in damaging, and enraging the Megasaur. It was no surprise it had returned an attack the way it had. Jonas was hit hard by the fire breath, doing his best pull his saber from the ground and raise it in front of him to at least take a small amount of the sting away. It had not been successful. Jonas was scorched and immediately set himself to rolling about the grassy clearing to extinguish the remains of the flame breath attack. ” We may have more trouble that I had hoped with this creature. ” Jonas mumbled as he picked his body from the ground, lifting himself to a knee then fully standing. ” I'll distract it while you imbibe a tonic! ” He continued, as he became aware of Demitri's injuries which seemed to be more severe than his own. Returning his blade to the ground with a thrust he once again raised his arms to the sky. His gaze was locked on the Megasuar which had seen this trick already and knew it's strength. The creature had turned towards Jonas attempting to close the distance between them before the attack could be made. The clouds above began to swirl once more as the meadow darkened. As before with a crackle of thunder the arc of lightning danced down and struck the dinosaur with immense power.

The combined efforts of Demitri and Jonas actually exceeded the inventor's expectations when the flame whirl finally hit the megasaur. Clearly teaming up like that was the way to go against creatures like this, and Demitri found himself only disappointed in the fact that he didn't know any way to conjure up some lightning. It was clear that was the weakness of the beast, and if they could do what they'd just done except with lightning, he could only imagine the type of devastating damage they could inflict.
Demitri didn't have much of any time to admire his handiwork, however, as the gigantic creature once again attacked. If there was a bright side to that, it's that the megasaur had decided to attack both of them this time instead of attacking just one. In an ironic twist, it was the megasaur attacking Demitri with flames this time. The searing fire set parts of his clothes ablaze, and he had to quickly drop and extinguish the flames. So that's what his opponents felt like most of the time, hm?
In any case, Demitri wasn't sure if he'd have been able to withstand another head on attack, so perhaps getting himself lit on fire momentarily was a blessing in disguise. Even so, his legs were now wobbly and if he didn't address his injuries soon he'd find himself mashed up in that megasaur's rows of razor sharp teeth.
Pulling out a tonic from his side pouch, Demitri downed it in a single gulp. Instantly, Demitri could feel his wounds healing.

The beast's rage had hit it's peek, and it now had eyes for doing as much damage to Jonas as it could. Lowering it's head like a battering ram the Megasaur started forward, dashing with as much speed as it could conjure towards the lowly human.

The ground trembled with each massive step the Megasaur took as it gained speed, lowering it's head as it charged directly towards Jonas. Though the creature appeared faster than he thought it would be Jonas was agile and moved quickly the the side rolling along the soft grassy turf out of the path of the creature. Jonas got to his feet quickly, as he had a change to strike the massive beast while it's back was turned. With a reach he found his blade, still standing upright, the Megasaur having run right by it in it's pursuit for Jonas. He pulled the blade free and lifted it, feeling it's weight. ” You're much to slow! ” Jonas yelled out, taunting the creature as the head of the Megasaur turned slowly meeting eyes with Jonas. The creature started to move it's massive body, attempting to whip itself around to face the on coming attack. Jonas would not allow this to happen. He moved fast, faster then the Megasaur could hope to react to, darting straight towards the massive reptilian menace. Jonas took a small leap from the ground and then a larger from the sturdy rear end of the beast which sent him lunging through the air. Twisting his body Jonas released a powerful succession of attacks as he turned and slashed in a cyclone of fury which cut several gashes into the hard scales of the creature. With one final kick Jonas thrust himself backwards just as the Megasaur's jaws lashed out towards him, narrowly escaping. Jonas landed with a slid and raised his saber in defense, he knew the creature would be out for even more blood now.

It was a good thing that Jonas had been so quick on his feet. Demitri could only begin to imagine how damaging a full powered headbutt from a creature so large could have done. Not only that, but his companion was able to both avoid the attack and deliver a well placed attack of his own. They were holding their own against this massive opponent rather well, but seeing as how he'd already used up one of his tonics, he wanted to finish this battle as soon as possible.
Considering how well his flames had worked previously, the young inventor saw no reason to go away from what was working and working well. With a quick motion of his hand, his guantlet went to work once again and flames roared to life from seemingly thing air. Demitri directed his hand, and tossed another torrent of flames at the Megasaur, hoping that this would be the attack that would finally fell the beast.
