Hey guys! There doesn't seem to be an introduction thread, so I figured I'd go ahead and start one.

So, my name is Chad. I'm 28, and I'll be starting school in less than a week. I spent a good deal of my youth on various misadventures, and while I don't regret (most of) it, I decided it was finally time to start winding down. I've been doing online RP on and off for…oh god…sixteen years now. I'm an animal lover, an enormous movie nerd, a gamer now and then (video games if I have free time, and I have a weekly group that meets for tabletop stuff) and I'm also way into all kinds of music, although punk is my absolute favorite.

That's the super basic version of me. If any of you have questions, just ask!

Now it's your turn: tell your likes, dislikes, hobbies and deepest, darkest, most blackmail lucrative secrets to a group of strangers on the internet! Wink

Seems we have a lot in common. The question(s) I have are…

1) When you say movie nerd, what kind of films do you like most?
2) When you say punk, what kind of punk do you like most?

1.) I'm a huge fan of Takeshi Kitano as a director and actor, as an example. “Kikujiro” is my favorite movie. I tend to prefer obscure stuff. Popcorn movies are great for what they are, but if I want to see, say, Die Hard, it's not a problem. You can find a copy anywhere for $5. And it's fantastic, but it doesn't appeal to me the same way as something I have to work hard to find, or in cases like Salo, Begotten, Antichrist, etc. hard to watch. I like foreign films a lot because they tell stories in different ways than Hollywood, and I like challenging movies because they keep my brain running while I watch and tend to have unique ideas or present questions and arguments about a broad range of subjects. I try to get my girlfriend to watch them, but I've accepted the fact that she's more of a “movies about princesses and puppies” kinda' girl. Haha. I try not to be a snob though and adopt a “we can both be right” attitude about film.

That said, I've defienetely paid $80 for a single movie more than once. It's expensive, but I'm passionate about it, and if you love a hobby you're willing to throw down more money for it than someone who really only watches movies for an hour and a half entertainment experience. The Barnes and Noble “Buy 2, get 1 free” Criterion sale is often a dangerous place for my wallet. Haha.

2.) When I say punk, I mean the real stuff. Dead Kennedys, GG Allin, pre-Jerry Only on vocals Misfits, The Casualties, Butt Trumpet, etc. I dig straight up punk, but I also especially love horror punk and pointlessly offensive (barring racist/anti-semetic punk, which I hate with the passion of a million burning suns)/gross punk has also become a strange love of mine. I take the joke for what it is, I guess, but it's definetely a take it or leave it kind of thing.

How 'bout you?

Ah I'm familiar with Kitano, I've seen a handful of his films. I enjoy Japanese cinema myself, though I prefer the older stuff, specifically Kurosawa, Ozu, and Mizoguchi, as well as the classic Japanese creature features and Toei stuff. In terms of European cinema I tend to prefer German and French films over most of the others. There's a lot of great Italian films as well but they never connect with me the way the avant-garde French stuff does, and the pre-talk German films. Lang especially gets me, as well as later German stuff like Herzog.

As for punk, I like Hardcore myself. Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedy's etc. Horror punk never really did it for me, the first couple Misfits albums are alright, I specifically enjoy Walk Among Us. I also enjoy a lot of the Orange County stuff like Agent Orange, Adolecents, etc.

Boopadoop~. 24 here and tend to go by Chevko nowadays, but used to be Stray quite a bit.
I joined just before Mira did and I found this place through the 'D. I tend to be rather… wildly innappropriate at times but I try to rein in it a lot since I know not everyone thinks like me.

I started RPing when I was… 15 or 16, sometime after I discovered… things on Limewire. I dabbled a little in Yahoo custom rooms then moved to forums. It was off and on, then I eventually found AcornRack then on to Spleafnet (Firefly on both) and, after that fiasco, onto the 'D after I ran into a “dry spell” as I've been calling it. Stopped RPing for about three years and it's not been the same since. Used to churn out about 5 posts a day, now it's about as many a week… but this place seems to be rather therapuetic :3
I tend toward the Final Fantasy series as a whole, but I also do enjoy the odd time on Chrono Trigger, Disgaea, Harvest Moon (IF I CAN GET MY MITTS ON BACK TO NATURE.) and Monster Rancher.

Shows-wise… I'm rather terrible with. Especially since I'm living at a hotel for the next two months just outside of Miami (and nervously anticipating a certain thing from my boyfriend. I know it's going to happen, but I just don't know when and this is the first time I've been able to actually say this to anyone).

Other than that… Yeah. I'm incredibly inappropriate, but I'm sure that Dys and Griff wouldn't be altogether too thrilled with me being like that xD I'm also working on a site, but I won't say much beyond it's MR2-based and there will be no links whatsoever until I can get it more on the road to complete and can get an ad up.
Ugh, been up for a damn hour already and IT'S TOO EARLY FOR THIS OMFG. *huffs blearily at too-bright screen.*

Want to double check or otherwise peek at my profile? Go for it!

It's very cool that all of you happened to find the site around the same time. For several weeks it had mostly just been a core of about 6 of us (many which you haven't seen much of yet as it's been an unusually busy week for everyone at the same time.) As it happens the 6 of us here have all known each other and been RPing with each other for a long time (some of us as long as 11 years together.) We all started on MSN Groups which has been gone for 5 years now, since that time I've had two sites that hosted others, this is the smaller of the two.

Juna, I was on AcornRack too. Actually, the first forum roleplay I joined was on AvidGamers. Then we had to move to AcornRack, then to SpleafNet, and then on from there, and then it died.

I hope the issue with your boyfriend is resolved.

Dystopia, it is odd when a bunch of people show up at once. I've had that happen a few times myself in other roleplays, but not to this extent. It's neat that you guys got to stick together. I know one guy from when I first started roleplaying, but we haven't actually roleplayed in the same place for years.

We all started on MSN Groups where we had a really tight RPG community for about a decade. When it closed I did my best to keep the community alive for awhile, I had a larger host of my own for almost 2 years, then I started on this place as a smaller community. Only recently have I started to expand it. I wish there were more of us from the old days though, we had some insanely active and big RPGs back then. This site originally opened in 2005, though this is an updated version. It's first week logged just short of 1800 posts back then, so as you can see we're a WAYS of from that kind of member base. I like it smaller though, it's easier for me to handle everything one on one and have more control over the over arching narrative.

It's cool that you came from Distant Fantasies, I've been trying to engrain myself there some, as we have more RPGs planned for Dystopia Productions in the near future. I want to build up an awareness of this place.
