It was a beautiful warm day in the forests of Guardia, the leaves green and the sounds of life all around. As Jonas and Soren walked a rhythmic ring of an Avain Chaos' bell sounded an alarm that reverberated through the forest, calling to it's aide two dog sized beetles. The creatures now gathered together stood on the path they were walking, blocking the way.

The day was young and the weather fine, the forests of Guardia as peaceful as they had ever been when the alarm sounded, calling forth a party of creatures which wished to fight. Jonas was not surprised by this, having remembered his last encounter in this same forest, though the weather continues were far different. Jonas felt stronger, more ready for this fight, in fact he had entered the forest seeking such an encounter, hoping to grow stronger, better able to fight on the adventures he would surely have to come. ” It took us long enough to find something that wanted to fight us. ” Jonas said to Soren as he pulled his newly acquired iron blade free from it's scabbard which was harnessed to his back. The blade was heavy, but balanced well, much more so than the bronze blade he had owned before. Sizing up the three attackers he noted that the beetles had a hard outer shell, most likely they would have a higher defense but the bird would be fast, though maybe not as fast as Jonas. ” One at a time, just like before. Except this time I'm not going to need you to help me back to Truce! ” Jonas said, a hint of confidence in his voice. Suddenly he sprang forth, taking to the air with his blade. Pulling down on the hilt he took a powerful slash at the Avian Chaos dealing a massive blow to the creature.

Soren was enjoying their peaceful trip through the forest, though it seemed Jonas was itching for something to challenge them to battle. It was unlikely that anything would be so foolish as to risk an encounter with them; they had improved by leaps and bounds since their last visit to the woods. Out of nowhere a rhythmic bell began to echo through the immediate area, and only a few moments later an Avian Chaos made itself known. From the brush emerged a pair of battles roughly the size of a large animal, coming to the aid of the avian. It would seem their idyllic stroll through the forest wouldn’t be as peaceful as he had hoped. “That’s just lovely,” he complained as the beasts made themselves known. “Perhaps it’s because you scared anything that didn’t have a death wish; I feared you might attack me soon too.” Soren joked with a chuckle, standing idle as his friend prepared for battle. There was no need for him to draw his weapon just yet, though he did slowly begin to approach the Avian Chaos. Meanwhile Jonas was eager to engage the beast, leaping at the beast and hacking into it while still airborne. Soren was impressed with how much he had improved in the short time since their last visit here, but he didn’t intend to be shown up so easily. Once he was close to the beast he came to a stop and bent low, tearing the weapon free from its sheath and slicing into the air with a rising cut. As his weapon tore into the beast he knew it was finished, and prepared himself for the counter attack. “I'm glad for that, Jonas. You're rather heavy.”

The Avian Chaos that had called the two Beetles into battle for aide had fallen quickly and new the Beetles would have to fight for their own lives. The Beetles split up, each focusing on one of their attackers and scampered across the forest path using their pointed legs to jab at the two.

Jonas was not surprised at the damage he had done to the Avain Chaos, he had improved a great deal since the last time he had been in the forest. He was also not surprised by Soren's ability to finish the heavily wounded creature off, two attacks and they had downed one of the creatures leaving on two Beetles. The Beetles attacked fast, once for each of them, rushing across the path on their spiked legs which would be used as weapons. Jonas saw the attack coming, bracing himself for the strike which hit with a force he could feel but his armor seemed to have held up and the attack did not pierce his body. ” What's that suppose to mean? You're here just the same as me, we came here to get better. After all if we hope to adventure like Crono we'll have to, imagine how he must fight! ” Jonas replied to his friends comments, feeling that they were on the right path to becoming the same kind of fighter as his idol. ” I'll leave you something to fight, I promise. ” He shouted with a smirk on his face. There was a calmness about Jonas now, he had been in a panic the last time they fought, but he had found his inner strength and he intended to keep hold of it. As a steady breeze began to blow as Jonas took a few steps back, putting space between himself an the Beetle that had attacked him. He exhaled, and took a powerful jump slash which cut through the Beetles outer armor leaving the beast defeated after one attack.

Soren coldly watched as the Avian Chaos fell to the ground, twitching for a moment before death overtook it. As it died he turned his attentions upon the other two beasts, observing them with a hard expression. They had been brought into the battle to assist the fallen creature, and now they were face-to-face with an enemy they couldn’t possibly hope to overcome. “Of course I wish to improve, but these beasts don’t even pose a challenge.” Soren confidently stated, standing idle while waiting for them to make their move. “How can we grow stronger if all we do is crush something that poses no threat to us?” “Not that it matters at this point.” Soren said with a bit of disappointment as one of the beasts began to charge at him. Once it was close the creature raised one of its spiked legs and thrust it forward in an attempt to stab him. Soren easily batted the creature’s leg away with the flat of his blade, and stared down threateningly at the bug. Out of the corner of his eye he saw that Jonas was busy dealing with a similar attack, and soon retaliated with a devastating aerial cut that instantly killed the monster. “I would rather not stain my blade with insect gore.” Soren muttered in annoyance, then suddenly began to smile devilishly at the small creature. Out of the blue he shifted his stance to favor his left arm, and took a single step away from the monster. Soren then quickly turned the scabbard over in his left hand, using the scabbard as a makeshift bludgeon by smashing it into the creature. A rather sickening crunch could be heard as the brute force of his attack cracked the creature’s exoskeleton. “Jonas! Come finish this thing for me.” Soren called out while sheathing his weapon. Jonas would be able to handle the rest.

Little time had passed since the start of the fight, the two adventurers were making quick work of the creatures of Guardia Forest. With the Avian Chaos and one Beetle vanquished in the matter of a minute or two it left only the final Beetle to defend itself, and hopefully come out of the conflict alive. Eyeing Jonas the Beetle scuttled forward, it's sharp pointy legs rustling through the paths outward surrounding underbrush to strike him though it's claws were still unable to harm him.

Jonas was not surprised by Soren's disregard for the importance of even these easy fights to their training, knowing that the more experience they gained in the beginning the better of they would be for the long run. He remained calm, keeping a steady eye on the final Beetle who seemed to come unnerved somewhat at the ease that the Guardia creatures were being defeated, or at least as unnerved as a giant beetle could be. Bracing himself for impact Jonas took the full force of the Beetles attack, having learned from moments before that his armor was strong enough to repel their knife like claws that topped the end of each of their front legs. ” Any experience is good experience, we don't want to get ourselves into another battle like before we're we're out numbered and unable to even the odds quick enough to save our skins. ” Jonas replied to Soren's statement, hoping that he would win him over and continue to persuade him to fight until they were ready for a higher challenge. Satisfied with the fight Jonas decided it was time to put an end to it, giving them the chance to seek out more foes. His blade still drawn he rushed the lone Beetle, darting from side to side as he neared to confuse the beast. At the last moment he lept and brought his blade down with great force, slaying the beast.
