  Scenario: The Wayfarers

The monstrous wind howled a deafening howl as Jonas pulled himself from the last link of the colossal chain which connected Mt. Woe to the ground. His hands were ablaze with the burn that only extreme cold can produce, the chill of this place having penetrated his clothing and begun it's steady work. Jonas looked back behind him, the winter gale pushing against his body as he looked for Peter, knowing that he should be close behind. The snow was falling horizontally, it's presence nearly reducing the visibility to zero. They would have to find a cave quickly and start a fire, if they intended to make it to the summit.
” Peter can you hear me?! ” Jonas shouted, his eyes looking past the last link of the titanic chain, searching for any sign of movement from his friend. For a brief moment Jonas felt the empty fear that came with the thoughts of Peter having fallen from the chain, but he could not let himself despair, striking those fears away quickly.

In all his thoughts before sending himself through time, never did Peter think he would be climbing a giant chain that would lead to an island floating over the planet. From his laboratory in the castle, this would be amazing, a dream even, but from the giant chain leading to an island floating over the planet, it seems like a nightmare. Peter was never one to rely on only his magic. Personal fitness was a cornerstone to his daily routine. All the magic in the world wouldn't help if Peter died due to poor health, but this was putting his strength to the it's limit.

Grabbing the top of the last link and pulling himself up, Peter grinned towards Jonas,
“Huh? Did you say something.” Laughing slightly to himself as the wind whipped around him, Peter helped himself onto the floating isle. “Let's find some place before it gets too cold or we get too tired.”

  Scenario: The Wayfarers

Jonas felt a amazing sense of relief when Peter appeared, hoisting himself onto the foot of the towering Mt. Woe. Nodding the wayfarer turned from his friend and started quickly forward, feeling the cold biting him through his overcoat. Snow was mounded high around them, and the mere act of just walking was more work than Jonas would like to admit. As the winds picked up Jonas noticed a rocky outcropping growing closer, one that seemed to cut into a towering rock face and would provide shelter from the wind. Motioning with his right arm as his left clutched his collar closed Jonas made haste for the shelter. Quickly he ducked inside, finding a nook big enough for a few people to cower within, and signs of a fire long cold left in the center.
” This seems like a camp, for those daring enough to try to reach the summit of this damn mountain. ” Jonas said as he looked over the ruins of the fire, seeing that there was some wood left. ” Let us get this blaze going again and warm up before we go any further, god knows what kind of torment lays ahead of us. ” Jonas had continued as he started to move the wood around, arranging it in a neat pile before going into his satchel for matches. Carefully he struck the tip of a match, cupping it with his hand to protect the flame from any stray wind while he lowered it into the neat pile.

The wind of Mt. Woe tore through the protection around Jonas' match and put out his flame. Putting his hand up to signify for Jonas to stop, Peter put his palm against the wood which was quickly engulfed in flames. “I really wish the magicians of this time would find an easier way up here.” Placing his hands on his head, Peter allowed his lungs to fully expand and allow him to catch his breath, wanting to get completed as quickly as possible.

Jonas leaned in close to the blaze, feeling it's warmth lick against the bare skin of his hands and face. Slowly but surely the heat was moving in, warming his entire body. Looking across the fire at Peter, Jonas took a minute to contemplate how far they had come, thinking back to the fateful day they had met.
” It's hard to believe the stories we've heard of this time Peter, the world we've seen so far is so cold and nearly uninhabitable. Do you really think we're going to find that fabled civilization floating above the clouds? ” Jonas asked as he held his hands out over the flames, speaking of course about the fabled Kingdom of Zeal which they were now in search of. ” Those poor people in the village sure did believe it's existence, but to be stuck in such a hard life—would you not create such fanciful tales yourself? ” He continued to speak, deep down questioning his own thought and putting himself in the shoes of the people of this time. of. ” I guess there is only one way to know for sure. ” Jonas finished his thoughts as he looked back out at the snow being tossed horizontal by the harsh winds, dreading the climb upwards but captivated at the same time by the unknown that lay ahead.

Absent mindedly, Petere scratched the base of his ears as he thought, “I sure hope something exists up here.” The wind kicked up and died down slightly, but didn't seem to be stopping anytime soon, “We just climbed a chain onto a floating island. No magicians existed in my time that would even think this was possible.” The awful conditions that existed around Peter could not extinguish his awe, “I'd be surprised if it didn't exist at some point, but should it be gone it could explain why most aren't able to use magic.”

The fire surrounded Peter, but he knew he could only enjoy it for now. Bundling up with his cloak, Peter tried to cover his ears which didn't seem to want to stay under his cloak. The cold really got to his ears. “Doesn't seem like this will die down anytime soon, we may as well get this search over with before it gets worse.” Peter stood up and enjoyed the little bit of heat he could, before moving back out into the blizzard.

Jonas nodded at Peter in response as he watched the young man attempt to cover his enlarged auricles without much success. Feeling the warmth on his face and hands for the last few seconds he stepped back and readied himself mentally for the ordeal they were about to face, knowing that there was no turning back at this point.
” Then let us set off. ” Jonas said as he stepped towards their rock barrier, hesitating for a brief moment before he stepped back into the snow and wind.
Jonas instantly felt the cold, though at his core he grasped at those last remains of heat that seemed to dwindle inside of him. He pushed forward past the rock face and started to climb, making sure to be careful with his footing as he moved through the landscape which was full of large rocks and deep snow. Ahead the wind howled and tossed the branches of a towering pine, Jonas was fixated on the movement of the tree, the beauty in such things. He continued forward to what seemed like an insurmountable cliff, but cut into it's steep wall was an opening, a dark cave that somehow Jonas knew would take them higher up.

Keeping his cloak bundled as closely as possible, Peter tried to keep all the heat in a possible. People contemplated creating a small fire near his body, but discarded that idea. The storm seemed to hide the true dangers of this mountain and he would most likely need any magic he could muster. Grabbing two of the thicker branches off the nearby tree, Peter cleaned the branches of any foliage and lit both on fire as he past the threshold of the cave. Passing one of the branches to Jonas, Peter paused before continuing into the cave, allowing his eyes to adjust to the light, “Be on the watch. These should hold us over till we hopefully find something better.”

” I've actually come prepared for this eventuality ” Jonas said as he briefly took the makeshift torch for Peter and set it aside against the rough wall of the cave before swinging his satchel around and opening it quickly and with little time rummaging, pulling forth a small lantern and canister of oil which he had purchased many weeks before in 600ad.
” Help me light this thing, the gusts are even pushing in here. ” Jonas said as he fumbled with the oil canister, removing the cap and putting a sizable amount of it inside the lantern which he promptly passed towards peter to light, not even bothering with his own matches. ” We should probably be careful in these caves, who knows what kind of creatures we can expect to run into them. ” Jonas continued to speak as he looked into the darkness behind him, knowing that without a doubt they would run into some fearsome creatures—It's always what happened when they adventured together.

Reaching his hand towards the door of the lantern, Peter sparked a small fireball, causing the oil to catch on fire. Letting his make shift torch drop as they proceeded into the cave, Peter nodded towards Jonas, “If anything can survive this environment, then it would be best to avoid as much of them as possible.” From the look of the environment and that chain keeping the island tethered, Peter could only guess that being put on this island was not a reward. Who knew what kind of creatures the people who levitated this island put here.

The lantern light illuminated the cave walls, peircing the darkness like a spear as Jonas held it in front, taking one step at a time. The walls of the cave were natural rough stone, they had not be hewn in any way, this place was wild and uncivilized—as harsh an environment as he had ever encountered.
” Stay close to me Peter. ” Jonas said, his right hand holding the lantern while his left touched the cool stone as he moved.
As he moved Jonas noticed the change in tone of his foot steps, as if they suddenly grew louder in pitch and volume. Instinctively Jonas knew what this meant, they were about to enter a cavern of some sort, the cave was growing larger around them. Pausing for a moment Jonas took a cold lungs full of air in before he moved forward, feeling the space around him grow as the light entered the chamber. The shadows danced around them as Jonas suddenly became aware of movement in the distance of the chamber. He tensed, shifting the lantern to his left hand as he instinctively went for the hilt of his blade, pulling it free with a radiant glimmer of steel in the low light.
” Light up this chamber Peter! ” Jonas found himself saying as he waited, his mind focused on the task at hand.

Warming up from being inside the cave and away from the hard winds outside, Peter found himself able to concentrate better and kept an eye out for any movement. The cave seemed to be a natural formation over a creation from the mages who sent this island airborne. A part of Peter hoped that he would never find out what survived in this environment while his curiosity really hoped he would find out.

Peter caught sight of the movement along with Jonas.
“On it.” Two fireballs appeared above his hand and began to circle each other, moving faster and faster on each revolution. Along with moving faster, the circle widened illuminating more of the cavern consistently. Another fireball appeared above Peter's hand, ready to attack.

The fireballs set the dome of the cavern ablaze and rained light down on both Jonas and Peter as well as the two other figures which had lurked in the darkness. Jonas' eyes sized up the two creatures, both familiar in appearance and build but at the same time different, seemingly denser and stronger. Standing at the far end of the chamber, near the passage that would allow them to continue on was an Imp, his skin pale green in color, his fangs showing. Next to him a winged gargoyle, his beastly visage snarling in the newfound light casting a horrid shadow on the far wall.
” Peter, I don't think these guys are quick as weak as what we're use to seeing from thier kind. ” Jonas cast the warning to his friend, making sure he was ready for what lay ahead.
With his warning Jonas locked his gaze on the enemies, his blade glimmering in the fire light, reflecting the hell fire that was contained above them. Jonas would have to test the resolve of these enemies and allow Peter room to safely cast his spells, he was already moving forward. Jonas dashed quickly, bringing his blade out horizontally and with a quick jump he set himself spinning like a tornado of blades into the two creatures.

The revolving light source caused shadows to change and morph with the timing of the two fireballs until the speed of the fireballs caused them to create a full circle of flames over the cavern, illuminating everything easily. Peter smirked towards Jonas, “To survive here they better be.” Peter was excited to get an enemy to fight. For some time, he and Jonas had been fighting the environment, something they could not beat. Finally, an enemy they could triumph against.

“Voice of Agni, let them hear your homa.”
The small fireball in Peter's hand increase in size till it about twice the size of his right hand and released the fireball out at the Gargoyle. Peter wished to reserve as much of his strength as he could, these weren't likely to be the strongest enemies they were going to come across.

Scenario: The Wayfarers
The sudden onslaught of attacks divided the two fiends, one moving to the left of the cavern the other the right. The Imp had set it's eyes on Jonas, showing it's teeth in aggression as it leaped into the air sending a powerful kick his way. The Gargoyle, slow to recover from Peter's magic attack had been thrown to the ground from it's power but had returned to it's feet through much effort and pain began to move it's arms in the air. Around the beast a aura of glowing blue grew and enveloped it, strengthening it's already strong hide.

Jonas could feel the extreme heat of Peter's fireball as he released it in the cavern, sending the Gargoyle flying back from it's power. He was very impressed with the growth of his friends magic since they had met, he was turning into a fierce mage.
” Jeez Peter, leave some for me! ” Jonas shouted out, half joking half serious.
It was in that moment Jonas had made his mistake, taking his eyes of the Imp to make jest with Peter. The imp had come flying at him, teeth exposed with a expression of hatred scrawled upon it's pale green face. The Imp's kick struck Jonas square in the chest, full force, sending him staggering backwards into the rough stone wall behind him. Jonas grasped for breath and bellowed in pain as he regained his composure.
” Bad move Jonas, bad move. ” Jonas spoke to himself, recognizing his mistake as he eyed the Imp, focusing on his foe completely feeling sure that Peter could handle his own battle.
Gripping his blade with both hands Jonas now knew these foes packed more of a wallop than he had originally thought, he did not want to take another hit like that. Shifting his weight Jonas moved forward with a burst of speed, leaping towards the Stone Imp without reservation. Jonas twisted his body like before, but with more conviction pushing himself to the extreme hoping to repay the pain.

Watching as he gargoyle strengthen his defenses, Peter sighed to himself, his fight just lasted a little longer. Pausing for a moment to make sure Jonas was okay, Peter could see Jonas didn't need any healing yet. Peter's rabbits ears stood straight up as a fireball appeared in his right hand. “Ra, bless me with your flame.” Raising his left hand, Peter moved his down with force, causing one of the fireballs circling the area to come down on the gargoyle, hoping to catch him off guard. The new fireball taking the place of the attacking fireball, illuminating the area.

The gargoyle fell under the force of Peter's massive attack, letting out a audible moan as it was incinerated from the heat of the flames. The Stone Imp, undeterred by the defeat of it's ally and the massive strength of Jonas' own attack forged on, it's fierce nature unquestionable. Moving quickly it weaved through the chamber, seeking a rock of choice. Leaning into it and using all of it's strength the creature lifted it's leg and with a massive kick sent a stone tumbling though the air at Jonas.

The heat from Peter's flames once again seared at nearby Jonas, he was not surprised when the gargoyle was turned to ashe. Jonas had turned his head, looking back towards Peter and the remains of their other foe, losing track of his own charge. Focused once more Jonas caught sight of the Imp, it's movements quick and deliberate as it launched a nearby stone at him like a missile. Jonas saw the stone coming, bracing himself he took the impact full force, knowing that it would surely leave quite a bruise but unable to dodge it in such tight quarters.
” Gah! ” He managed to utter as the rock struck him, staggering Jonas for a brief moment before he recomposed himself, sword in hand, and readied for what he planned to be his final attack.
Jonas darted forward quickly, proving to be a match in speed for his foe. Extending his blade once more as he had done before, Jonas leaped forward with a whirlwind like spin, his sword cutting through the air of the cavern, meeting the flesh of the Stone Imp with full force, sending the creature flying back to the ground in defeat.

WIth the stone imp defeated, Peter's rabbit ears flopped down as if exhausted from the battle. Peter wondered more and more about his animal ears. They seemed to have personality not related to Peter's, was the rabbit's persona existant within them? Vowing to look more into it in the future, Peter recalled one of the fireballs circling the room to his hand and placed the other on the fall end of the cavern. A green aura appeared in Peter's other hand and quickly drifted towards Jonas' wounds, healing the fighter completely, “I'll need to conserve our strength. I feel the island has much fiercer things to throw at us.” Peter looked down for a moment in disappointment, wanting to truly test his might and improved before they come face to face with the magicians who could levitate this entire island.
