Treasure: Hunting for Artifacts
Rolling plains of towering grass chest high led the adventurers towards the Hunting Range. Mountains towered in the distance, rigid young peeks that had only recently been thrust from the violent earth below. The heat was harsh and ever present, even the wings that cut through the plains did little to alive the sticky warmness of this place. In the distance stone pillars, un-chiseled but not natural to the landscape directed them towards the treeline which grew closer.

One of you guys go ahead and make the first character post. Feel free to explain our finding out about the artifacts and whatnot!

Treasure: Hunting for Artifacts ~ Flowers, Mint, and Wood Oil

Mira had grown up hearing stories about the lost civilization. Some said that they were strong fighters, that they were in the first wars against the reptiles, but they lost and were wiped out. Other said they were peaceful, that they hunted and gathered, but stayed out of any territorial wars. Some even believed that it was the reptile attack on them that started the human/reptile wars in the first place. Many believed that the Ioka and Larabu villages were formed from survivors of the lost people.

No one really knew. No one even knew if they really existed. Between the war and just surviving, no one really had time to investigate. Now, Mira could actually take the time to search for signs of these people. It was also a good way to spend her time here. Ioka Village was too dangerous for her. She was likely to be recognized. It was frustrating to not be able to visit her family again. They had come in the time before she disappeared though. The time difference was not actually too far off, but it was enough that she feared making changes for the worst. It was frustrating, and she needed to keep busy.

She prepared for the quest. Knowing the heat and humidity of the hunting range, she wore limited clothing made of animal skin. All of her exposed skin was covered in an oily paste, which made her a little shiny. She was finishing putting it on her legs when she saw the rest of the group. She approached and held out a skin bag of the paste. It had strong scent of flowers, mint, and wood oil.

“Protect skin from insect bites. Cover all skin. Make enough for all.”

My goal is to make all your character stink. :-P Lol. Nah, I just figured, based on the description of the hunting range, there would be a whole mess of nasty insects living there. The paste probably actually smells good, just very strong.

  Treasure: Hunting for Artifacts
Peter followed behind Mira towards a place he still wasn't certain exactly why, but she seemed to know what she was doing so he followed. Using a slight amount of ice magic, Peter was able to keep himself cold while keeping himself covered, not wanting to show anyone what was underneath. With a pleasant smile, Peter extended his arms and pushed his face out as those were the only parts of him uncovered, “Thank you, Mira.” Scrunching his nose at the smell, he did not want to disrespect her act of kindess, “So what's here again, Mira?”

  Treasure: Hunting for Artifacts

Jonas was dismayed by the heat. Even thought his clothing wasn't especially heavy or dark in color it was liking being wrapped in a blanket sitting inside an oven. He wiped his brow as he walked, feeling the moister soaking through his Bandanna, though he did not dare remove it an expose himself to the intensities of the Sun. Jonas followed behind Peter as they reached Mira, panting as he rested his arms against his knees, hunching over.
” I don't know how you LIVED here. ” Jonas said to Mira a Peter was being covered in the oily paste. ” I mean, it's seriously like a hundred and twenty degrees here. ” Jonas continued to speak as he reached into the skin pouch and pulled forth enough of the glop to spread across his exposed arms and face.
Ahead Jonas looked towards the monolithic stone pillars, uneven and rigid, standing tall in what was a mostly flat expanse of field. The stones had been leading them through the wilderness to the place referred to as the Hunting Range, it's forested enclosure now visible in the distance. Jonas knew that the jungle like woodland would at least shield them from the Sun, though he expected the humidity to grow even more in such a place.
” Lets get to it, while we can still walk. ” Jonas said with a heaving sigh, his body taking time to adjust.

  Hunting for Artifacts

Trailing behind the group was Demitri, fervently examining a leaf he had plucked on the trek here. He was pretty sure he had seen a fossil of one of these things back in his own time, and he found it amazing that he had found a living sample. Apparently you could make a potent poison out of this if you completely group the plant and drained whatever juice you could out of it. Come to think of it, it probably wasn't a good idea to be touching this thing. He threw the leaf aside and caught back up to the group.

They were putting some strange paste on them. The interesting woman that he'd only recently met had made it, and apparently it was good for staving off insects. Demitri had no qualms about covering himself with the stuff since some of the insects he'd seen around were the size of a small dog; it was seriously ridiculous. Not only that, but he didn't want to offend the woman as he was pretty sure she was fond of punching things. His older brothers had made him play a game called Punchies when he was a kid, and he wasn't a fan of getting punched as an adult either.

“Damn, look at those beauties!” Demitri practically shouted as the ruins came into view. “I'm practically drooling at what might be discovered in there. Mega ancient technology, perhaps? Lost treasures?” A wide grin formed on his face, but then subsided, ” … or horrible atrocities that will try to eat us. Yeah, probably that.

Treasure: Hunting for Artifacts ~ Ruins

Mira smiled a bit at Jonas's remark. “Jonas time cold.” At least, at first, it had been chillier than she liked. She got used to it though, and now she found that her own time seemed to be hotter than she remembered. She didn't have much time to think about any of that though. They had artifacts to find.

“No hunt here. Less animals.” She glanced to Peter, as she was somewhat, answering his question. “Many bugs.” She smiled a bit. “Many tasty bugs. Some bugs dangerous to eat. After artifact hunt, show tasty bugs if Peter hungry.”

She was making a point to avoid her name in this time. It wasn't anything special. She wasn't even the only Mira in the village. Still, she worried that someone might somehow overhear and figure out who she was, and then wonder, how could she be in two places at once? Some people in her place might just use a different name in their own time, but Mira, being a too honest for her own good, never considered that idea.

She looked ahead as the pillars came into view. She smiled, enjoying their beauty. If there was something to find, it would probably be here. Had they been build by humans though? The reptiles were known to build great stone structures. They may have built and abandoned this long ago.

“Human or lizard?” she asked as a reminder that humans might not have built this. “Maybe something else.” After what she had seen in 1010 A.D., she wasn't going to dismiss that idea either. All species had to start somewhere, and she knew that in her own time, she had only seen a tiny portion of the world.

She headed further in.

  Treasure: Hunting for Artifacts
Peter was about to turn down Mira's offer when another strange food popped into his head, but it sounded good. Hay. Shaking his head to remove the though, Peter smiled at Mira, “That would be great.” He wish he could extend his ice over the three not from this time, but that would expend his energy too much so he continue forward, seeing the ruins. The looked impressive, but someones ruins were just that. He hoped that there was something there. Looking over towards Demetri, Peter shrugged, “Ironically, I think we're too ancient for useful ancient technology. At least from humans, they are just starting develop, but who knows that's in there.” Peter began to think about what would be useful in this time, and then it hit him. He jumped in the air a little with happiness, “Most likely, most of the gold in the world hasn't been discovered. We could find a large vein somewhere and be rich.” As he finished those words, his ears dropped with his shoulder, “Not that it matters much in this time, but if history repeats itself…” Peter paused for emphasis his small joke, “We'll be out of here in no time.”

  Treasure: Hunting for Artifacts

There seemed to be great speculation about the source of the ruins which they sought. Jonas himself had wondered upon hearing of the ruins what their true origin could be, might it shine some light on the development of civilization in a while? Of course he knew it was to early to really say, having yet to lay eyes upon anything that old. The monolithic stone pillars were newer, he knew that much, placed as markers to lead people to the hunting range, but beyond was where mystery would lie.
” Hopefully nothing tries to eat us. ” Jonas joked as he neared the edge of the forest, following the stone pillars. ” That being said, even the bugs here are massive. ” He continued to speak as a giant dragonfly buzzed by, at least a foot in length with a wingspan of two feet.
A path from the years of travel cut through the forest, wide enough for two or three people to walk side by side. It was dirt beaten though the vines and trees at times fought to regain the land. The path twisted and turned around massive trees which had trunks as wide as houses, heading deeper into the unknown. Ahead the road forked, a stone pillar marked the diverging paths. Jonas stopped, wiping the sweat from his brow once more, the humidity was grasping him but he would press on.
” Which way? ” Jonas asked as he looked on the others, his gaze settling on Mira who he would assume would have the best judgement.

Treasure: Hunting for Artifacts ~ Right Path

Mira was a little amused by Peter's excitement about gold. Her people traded it, among other things. It was pretty.

“Flying big bugs hard to hunt,” she added as she looked to the dragonfly, not really talking to anyone in particular. “Very quick.” Easy enough to kill though. People with ranged weapons had better luck with the flying ones, if they caught the insect unaware.

She left the thought of insects behind as they reached the fork in the road. She glanced to Jonas as he spoke, seeing that he was looking towards her. She looked back before gesturing to the right.

“Deeper in forest. If treasures to be found-” She gestured to the path again as though that were the finish to her sentence. In words, she meant that they'd be there, if anywhere. They were looking for what her people hadn't found, so they needed to go where hunting and gathering didn't take them.
