RESTORE › Reward: Restore › Requirement: 800 Words, 5 Posts – ( no level requirement ) › Short Description: This is a short quest throughout midgar sector 1, with the reward being the restore materia, a very helpful materia for those just starting.
Gunshots rang out across the night sky in Midgar's Sector 1 upper plate as a lithe raven haired figure leapt from a rooftop to an alleyway balcony, swiftly making his way across the obstacles that would be difficult for an average citizen. A small handful of security officers from the Shinra Electric Power Company gave chase, flanked by a pair of flying slug-ray drones that quickly passed the officers and drifted above the buildings that the man had been freerunning towards.
“Tch! Guess this is what I get for trying to figure out what's really going on at the reactor.” Void gritted his teeth behind the large fabric collar that covered more than half of his face. One of the slug-ray sentry weapons had maneuvered itself between him and another rooftop he was about to jump on. The man's dark blue eyes narrowed with a fierce determination as his left foot slammed onto the rail of a fire escape and then kicked off it again, sending him high into the air. With a quick and practiced hand he drew the four-point shuriken from his back as the machine readied its weapons and opened fire on the airborne ninja.

Time seemed to slow for the briefest of moments as adrenaline raced through Void's veins, all the while his body leapt through the air toward the slug-ray drone that hovered just before him. It had unleashed a barrage of gunshots, which riddled the wall and fire escape behind the black clothed man with bullet holes as it attempted to track his agile maneuver. He grunted in pain as a few shots grazed his arms and legs, while a couple hit his bronze bangle and the four-point shuriken he tried to guard himself with. The momentum from his run and jump quickly carried Void to his target, and just as he touched down on top of the machine he slashed across one of the support joints that held it aloft. A streak of electricity jolted out from the wound, and the mechanism that propelled it began to fire off wildly.
Without missing a beat the ninja managed to leap high from the unstable slug-ray, twisting and inverting himself in midair with a skillful kick of the legs as he reoriented himself to face the wounded drone and throw his boomerang down upon it. The four-point shuriken spun with an elegant arc to its target, striking it with incredible precision as it cleaved the sparking engine leg from the machine's twirling body. The ninja's weapon bounced from the impact and began to trail back through the air toward the spot where Void softly landed. With the extension of his hand he plucked the large shuriken from its flight, and watched with a steely gaze as the damaged slug-ray fell beneath the roofline to the alleyway below. “One down.” Just as he was about to continue his escape he noticed the second drone as it rose from an opposite corner of the building, its weapons primed to fire on its target.

“Tch!” The slug-ray Shinra drone had out flanked him, and without hesitation it too fired upon the intruder. Void dove and rolled to the side, receiving a few more grazing shots as he took cover behind the building's rooftop accessway. Inside the small structure were the stairs, but the door was in the machine's line-of-sight, and it had begun to hover around the corner while it kept its distance to reacquire its target and line up a clean shot. On the otherside, Void held his left arm, which had been bleeding since he jumped at the first drone. He realized he couldn't risk taking many more hits if he wanted to make it back to Wutai alive.
The green glow of his weapon's Ice materia glistened as Void tapped into the magical energy harnessed within it. He moved his right hand from his wounded arm to the center of his chest, and he could feel the essence surge throughout his body as it flowed from the Ice materia in his weapon and into his fist. A white frost-like crust enveloped his hand, and as soon as the drone rounded the corner and entered his line-of-sight he threw his arm out to the side and unleashed the spell Blizzard upon the machine. A blue mist trailed behind the silver crystal-like ice shard as it flashed through the air and impaled the drone, bursting against its surface as it impacted.

The Blizzard cracked and dissipated into countless shards as the drone hit by it reared back and released its volley of gunfire into the sky. “Now's my chance!” Void dashed forward, spun around the corner of the rooftop accessway, threw open the door, and slammed it shut behind him as he slipped inside. Through the thin window over his shoulder he could see the drone begin to recover from the attack, at which point he promptly locked the door and began to sprint down the staircase. “Those things are tougher than they look. I'll have to lose this one before I get back to my contact.”
As he ran through the empty offices towards the northern edge of the building he could hear the door a few rooms back get blown open. He didn't have much time, but at least there was a good amount of obstacles between him and that thing. Little more than twenty feet ahead of him was a row of windows that led to a metal-frame balcony. Without hesitation he hurled his four-point shuriken forward, shattering the window in seconds before it returned to be clutched back into his hand. In another second he braced his arms and weapon over his head, and then leapt through the window's remains. Shards of broken glass scrapped away at him as he broke through, which left several small lacerations across his body and upper cheeks. His large cloth collar remained remarkably unharmed by the incident.
In another feat of agility the ninja bounced from the balcony's railing and rolled into a gentle landing on another baclony across from the alleyway. Behind him the offices lit up softly with the dim artificial light emitted by some of the drone's various components. In the alley below and around the corner he could hear the security officers run towards his location, one seemingly distracted by the condition of the crippled drone that Void had dropped earlier as he shouted back to the others. “Call off the other one! These units aren't supposed to be in the public yet!” An interesting remark, but it only rose more questions. No matter, he wasn't in a position to lurk around and gain more intel at the moment. Without wasting another moment he snuck through the balcony's door, vanishing as the drone in the building across from him set its sights upon the door in its final moment of closing.

He'd lost track of the drone, but continued to notice the security officers as they hurried through the alleyways to find him. Void watched from the second floor as he kept low, moved along the walls, and crouched under the windows on his way through the building. 'Persistent…' He thought to himself as he noticed them fan out and begin to search inside the nearby structures. One of them made their way towards a ground level door to the building he was in, but it wouldn't make a difference. Just as the officer opened the door Void shut another behind him, having made his way onto yet another fire escape.
'Shouldn't be too much further from here, just a couple of blocks left to go…' Bloody and weary of his wounds, Void holstered his four-point shuriken on his back, then began to climb down the half-deployed ladder. Once he reached the end of the ladder he let go, and dropped one floor onto the balls of his feet with his knees bent out to the sides, one hand on the ground, and the other behind him for balance. He paused for only a moment as he closed his eyes and listened for any sign that one of the officers had heard him. It seemed he was silent enough, but he noticed the blood that left a trail as he reopened his eyes to see a drop from his cheek pass his collar and drip into a tiny puddle. The crimson mixed with the water as the ripples distorted his reflection, and by the time it began to settle he was already gone.
It was more difficult to avoid the attention of the common people as Void slipped out of the industrial district around the reactor and made his way across the rest of the sector. 'So many people, all crammed into one space… How can they stand this metal maze?' The wounded man pondered as he skulked between the buildings and continued toward the area where he was set to rendezvous with another ninja from his clan. It was difficult to recognize where he was going, but he finally managed to arrive at his destination after a few wrong turns and a couple dozen minutes of travel. It was an old restaurant at the edge of the sector, no lights on inside or out. 'Finally…'
Void made his way into the establishment through the back door, cautious of any treachery as he hovered a hand over his weapon and stepped into the kitchen. “I'm already on edge.”He spoke sharply as he crept across the room, his eyes constantly on the lookout for any sign of treachery. “Don't try to sneak up on me.”
“Fiiiine.” A thin girl in black garments with a boomerang similar to his own appeared behind him, nearly startling Void as he jumped forward and spun around to face her. “Oh wow, Kyo! What happened to you?” She said as she hurried up to him and gawked at his wounds.
“Shinra security. They had a couple of drones that could fly. Nothing about them in the briefing.” He said with a disappointed tone as he used a single finger to hold down the front of his collar in order to reveal his face to her. He then eyed the adolescent ninja up and down, and adjusted his voice to speak more softly. “Know anything about 'em?” The scantily dressed girl pulled back and averted her gaze to hide her blush behind the black bangs of her long twin-tailed hair.
“Mm-mm…” She shook her head with a slightly worried look on her face. “First I've heard of any such machine.”She then reached into a small pouch on her leather belt and drew forth an orb-like object. With a light smile she tilted her hips and held out her hands to reveal a green materia that rested in her palms. “But before we get back to restoring Wutai to glory, how about you take this and get yourself healed up?”
With a gracious nod Void reached down and took the Restore materia from the shorter girl's hands. “Thanks. I'll only need a moment to recover, then we should head out to a different location in case they follow the trail.” He nodded to the couple driplets of crimson that lay near the rear door as he grabbed the large shuriken from his back, and placed the newly acquired Restore materia into one of the weapon's empty slots.
