Chapter 3: Kalm Before the Storm

The granite walls of the Mythril Mountain cave entrace glittered in the sun. Cloud reached out, placing his bare hand against the rock wall, feeling the roughness, as he walked through the entrance. Light from the outside poured in though the entrance, helping illuminate a large entrance chamber. Cloud stopped as his eyes adjusted.
” No. ” Was the only word able to escape his lips as he stood motionless looking on the opening chamber.
Bodies of Shinra SOLDIER were strewn about the chamber, the crimson red of their blood splattered about the walls and puddling under their bodies. Cloud's mind raced back to the Nibelheim Mako reactor, the vision identical in brutality. Shaking off his momentary pause Cloud darted his head around the room, notocing that the bodies of their friends did not seem to be part of the scene. Looking up at the far side of the cave, written in blood was one word, Midgar.
” Sephiroth. ” Cloud said aloud as he locked eyes with Raiden, the fury and pain burning through the Mako gleam that was always present as if a demon had been awoken in his soul.

Raiden entered the cavern trailing a few steps behind Cloud, his right hand fastened tightly around the hilt of his weapon. Light from the outside filtered in through the cavern entrance, guiding their first steps into the darkness. When his eyes had adapted, what he saw made his stomach twist in disgust. “Oi,” the cavern was a mess, the bodies of SOLDIER all about the room as their blood decorated the various rock surfaces. None of the corpses appeared to be those of their friends, and that made him sigh in relief. Despite that there was no time to dwell on the good things, not when a massacre similar to that of the Nibelheim reactor was right in front of their eyes again.
'This was a slaughter,' he could easily tell that much from just a cursory glance; they had never stood a chance against the foe that appeared before them. Raiden turned to look at Cloud, locking eyes with the man as he whispered the name of the one responsible for all of this brutality. “Cloud,” he began to say, taking note of the anger and pain his friend was currently suffering from. “we shouldn't stay long, and we need to find out….” Raiden's words trailed off as he turned to face the massacre yet again.

“Just search them,” he announced finally, kneeling down over what remained of the nearest SOLDIER and searching him. It was a grim task, but any items that could help them were invaluable. Not to mention the possibility of finding out what they had been escorting. Perhaps it had even been their friends, and they had somehow escaped this slaughter. There were too many questions being left unanswered. “and when we're done… decide on our objective, Cloud.”

As Tsuna walked into the cave, a similar rage filled him as he did at Nibelhiem. It was anger at Sephiroth for killing the ShinRa dogs, but not for the same reason as Cloud, 'DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT!' Tsuna had to use all his restraint to not say it out loud. Again Sephiroth had taken away his chance for revenge. His eyes strayed to his cane as he was tempted to at least stab some of these bodies, but he knew it would do nothing for him and would only estrange him from his new allies. Something that would only take away from its impact.

No knowing what to do, Tsuna went through the motions. He checked the bodies to see if he could find anything of import mumbling under his breath every so often,
“He's going to pay.”

Chapter 3: Kalm Before the Storm

A staleness hung about the large chamber, Cloud knew the slaughter was fresh, they could have only missed it by an hour if not sooner. The haphazardly strewn SOLDIER corpses had been made short work of, which confirmed to Cloud that only someone of Sephiroth's skill could have achieved this over a group of 3rd Class SOLDIER.
” You're right, if we can find anything it will help, but we need to hurry clearly he's not that far ahead of us. ” Cloud responded to Raiden as he looked on Tsuna, a rage burning in his eyes as well, Cloud knew they must share some history from that mansion but now was not the time to explore it.
Moving out into the cavern Cloud came upon one of the dead, his body baring a fatal cut across his chest, deep. Blood covered his uniform but Cloud paid it no mind, digging into his pockets looking for anything of use. Pulling out a blue orb, he quickly pocketed it before moving on to the next.
” Over here, this guy is 2nd Class, he must have been leading this group. ” Cloud spoke, his voice echoing though the chamber. ” Looks like he tried to put up a fight. ” He continued, commenting on the multiple stab wounds. ” My guess is Sephiroth questioned him, if anyone knew what he wanted to know it would be this guy. ” Cloud finished as he reached into the mans pockets, which all were empty. Cloud knew that if information had been there, Sephiroth would have taken it if he wanted something with them he would want to keep them in the dark.

I found an All materia, assuming we search every body you guys can decide who wants a Bio materia and a Heal materia. You can also decide how to split 1000 gil, 3 hi-potions, and an ether.

“I'll be honest,” Raiden started to say, still scouring the body for anything of value. It was difficult for him to focus, between the pounding headache and his attempts to avoid thinking about the task at hand. Even though they were members of SOLDIER they hadn't stood a chance against a lone man, and that made him feel very uneasy; they were in over their heads, especially if the plan was actually to pursue the one responsible for this. “going after the guy responsible for this is suicide.”

Raiden moved onto the next body then, and began to scour the remains for anything of value. This time he hurried himself along and found a materia socketed in the fallen soldier's weapon. Quickly removing it from the weapon, he gave it a cursory glance before pocketing it. “Found a Materia here, anybody find anything else?”
—————————————-
OOC: I'm not picky on the split of loot (I'd say just go as even as you can), and Griff can decide which Materia he wants–just assume Raiden found whatever the spare is.

Tsuna, though enraged, at least learned through his experiments had learned to never been foolish. These men were dead, their items would do no good for them. He put a Bio materia into his die and rose and looked at Raiden. His fist slammed into the rock wall, blood dripping down slightly, but he felt nothing, “Not going after him is suicide.” Tsuna almost spat the word as his eyes began to glow similar to Cloud but a darker hue. “First Nibelheim and now where. Each time we are right behind him, there is something here. Suicide it may be, but choosing to live is in itself a choice of suicide. Is it better to go out knowing you at least tried to do something that matter? ShinRa. Sephiroth. These both must pay and here we are. Who better than us? A former SOLDIER, Turk, and…” Tsuna looked away and punched the wall again with his other fist. Memories of what happened in his many years came flooding back. He had nothing, but a faint memory of his life before. A fading image of a woman he knew was his mother. Everything thing else was needles and fighting vicious beasts to test their experiments. His rage seemed to boil over as he tried to control it. Now was not the time.

Once his composure was back, Tsuna turned back towards the group and straightened his hat,
“He most likely went deeper into the mines or we would have most likely seen his escape on our way in. If we are done here, we should hurry, we are already behind.” Tsuna turned from the group and looked deeper into the mines. He had lost his composure, the one thing he could call his own.

OOC Talk:
I'm going with Bio simply based on how Tsuna's materia use works. Rather have a chance for poison then a chance for heal. I agree on splitting gil, as best we can, the potions and roll for ether.

Chapter 3: Kalm Before the Storm

Having searched all the corpses and come up with nothing more than a few items and materia it was apparent that had any information about their friends been with the SOLDIER that it had been taken, perhaps along with them. Cloud straightened himself as he stood from a kneel over the final corpse, paying keen attention to Tsuna's outburst, he clearly knew more of Sephiroth than he was letting on. Thinking, Cloud attempted to penetrate the haze of his past, knowing that Sephiroth had played a major role in it, but he was still unable to pull that information out, as if it was locked away for safety.
” Clearly none of us are any match for him, but if he has our friends we have to pursue, we owe them that much. ” Cloud spoke up, having been silent for several minutes. ” He wants us to follow him to Midgar, he must be planning something, but we have to go anyway. ” Cloud finished as he started walking, passing between his allies as he made his way towards the caverns exit, and Midgar beyond.
The warm sunlight hit Cloud's face as he exited, the blonde man reaching his had up to shield his eyes whuch took time to adjust to the light. Taking a few steps out, he stopped. Looking onward towards their chocobos Cloud watched as feathers flew as one of the tied chocobos was struggling to breath, fighting the massive hooded serpent that wrapped the bird in a death squeeze.
” Oh shit… ” Was all Cloud was able to utter, as he watched the chocobos futile fight, realizing only now that tying the chocobos outside the cave entrance was as good as leaving a bated hook.

“I don't give a fuck,” he snapped, voice dripping with venom as his face contorted into scowl. Raiden didn't enjoy being the target of his comrade's anger, especially not when he wasn't in the wrong. “if you have a death wish, that's your choice.” Raiden stood up from the soldier's remains, smiling bitterly as Cloud voiced his thoughts. They couldn't just abandon pursuit of the one responsible for this, he felt the same as the others, but if they just went in blind all they would accomplish would be dying in vain.

“We're in a position to actually do something,” he explained while heading toward's the cave's entrance, just a short distance behind Cloud. “hate the idea if you want, but from now on we're going to look before we leap, and we won't be doing it alone. Got it?” Raiden hadn't meant to say that they should just flee from their troubles, but rather to clarify that they were in far over their heads. If they were to survive this ordeal, stop this madman, and do something about Shinra it was high time for the group to find help.

Raiden held his left hand in front of his eyes, filtering away direct sunlight while his vision adjusted. Once he could see more clearly, he removed his hand and felt his stomach twist at the sight before him. There was a massive hooded serpent before them, coiled around one of the chocobo and attempting to crush the life out of it. “Fuck!” Raiden didn't even think it over as he broke into a mad dash, unsheathing his new weapon and severing the straps that bound the remaining two chocobo. “Don't just stand there, god damn it! Do something!” Raiden shouted at the others, holding his weapon at the ready now that he had managed to free the other two birds before they were caught.

Midgar. He should have guessed. In his rage, Tsuna didn't consider how long the bodies were dead for and in his bliss didn't think about how long their chocobo ride really was. His stupidity was followed by curses from the outside of the cave. Tsuna sprinted to see the giant serpent they had been warned of. Raiden had managed to free the other two chocobos, but one was under attack by the beast. These majestic birds that had given him one of the only joys of his life. Tsuna wasn't going to let them die without a fight.

Tsuna whipped his cane to the side, causing the covering to fall off to the side and brandish the blade within. Without a second's delay, Tsuna charged at the serpent with the thought of only saving the chocobo. Leaving the ground with his blade pointed right towards the body of the serpent a few feet above were the chocobo was behind held, he tried to stab it and cause enough shock that it would release the chocobo.

Chapter 3: Kalm Before the Storm

The shock of the past few minutes still had a firm grip on Cloud, his reaction to the Zolom muted by the emotions surged over him from Sephiroth's message. Cloud stood statuesque as his allies rushed past him, one freeing the two remaining chocobos, the other pursuing an assualt on the serpent. Cloud continued to watch as the hulking viper turned its massive tail on Tsuna, hitting him with a great force to send him flying back.
” Tsuna! ” Cloud shouted as he broke his mental ties, taking quickly to a full run to send him in striking distance of the creature. ” Raiden, quick see to Tsuna and ready some magic! ” Cloud yelled out before leaping towards the hooded cobra gathering it's full attention before he thrust his newly purchased mythril blade into its scaled body.
Cloud held on to his blade knowing that in a split second he would feel the full force of the creature, which with a thrust of his muscles sent he and his sword flying through the air. Cloud landed hard, his limbs splashing in the marsh as he tried to get to his feet, feeling the presence of the giant viper on him.

Raiden could only watch as his friend madly charged at the beast, only to be sent flying. He chanced a cursory glance at Tsuna, who appeared to be mildly worse for the wear but still in fighting condition. Following the failed assault, Cloud appeared to have been shaken free of whatever had been distracting him from the situation at hand. “Tch,” he clicked his teeth, annoyed that despite having stood idle until now the blonde was already barking orders. “already did, he'll be fine!” Raiden cried out in response, letting his weapon handle idle at his side.

Slowly he brought his left hand up, a faint green glow emanating from one of the materia in his armlet. Raiden held back the power as the energy within rapidly grew in strength. As the air around him began to crackle, he unleashed the torrent of power within. Raiden deftly extended his arm out, directing the bolt of electricity at the massive serpent before him. Lightning exploded from his armlet, tearing through the air toward the Midgar Zolom.

OOC: Pretty sure Raiden's lightning had leveled up so this was supposed to be a Bolt 2.

Tsuna flew across through the air as the snake hit him. He smashed against the tree, causing the air to leave his lungs, but as he landed a die fell from his pocket. The die rolled a “6″ and the die glowed green. Suddenly, a green blob sailed towards the snakes body, hopefully causing poison. When Tsuna regained his breath, he leaned against his arm and as made his way back to his feet cursed. The new materia may not be effective against a snake. Luck wasn't on his side today. “I'm alright.” Said Tsuna with the breath he had begun to regain. He moved to his knee and leaned against the sword. He didn't see what happened to the chocobo, but hoped he was alright. He was one of the only beasts that weren't aggressive. After retreiving the die, Tsuna stood and faced the snake prepared for however he needed to attack.

Chapter 3: Kalm Before the Storm

Cloud crawled forward in the mud of the marsh, still trying to get his footing as the wave of attacks hit the Zolom slowing, then stopping it's pursuit. The attacks had gathered its attention fully, though neither seemed to impose any long term lasting effects. Cloud watched as the massive serpent slithered forward, perfectly able to move freely in the muddy water, lashing out at Tsuna with it's dagger like fangs.
” Tsuna! Watch out! ” Cloud shouted as he finally got to his feet, but it was too late as his friend would be unable to dodge such a swift attack.
Pulling his feet unstuck, Cloud took a brief second to find a small mound of dry footing above the marsh waters, steadying hiemself in preperation for his own attack. Holding his Saber out, pointing the blade in the direction of the Zolom he summoned a wave of lightning, the white hot bolts of electricity dancing across the gap between he and his foe before striking the Zolom's scaled body.

Raiden watched helplessly as the serpent lunged at his friend, only able to grit his teeth and take advantage of the opportunity to attack. Quickly moving to the side, he began strafing the creature aiming to separate himself from the group. If it decided to attack him, that would give the other two the chance to catch it from behind; if not, he had every intention of frying this beast alive for ignoring him. Once he had moved a fair distance, Raiden began to channel the power of his lightning materia once more. A moment later he unleashed a radiant blast of lightning, which arced through the air towards the Midgar Zolom.

The fangs of the serpent flew at Tsuna with such speed he could barely act. With the time he had, Tsuna threw up his left arm to take the damage as they scraped across his arm. A scream of pain left Tsuna's left for a moment as he jumped back to give him some distance. His left arm was badly damaged, but he could still fight with his right. A relief he was able to save that arm.

Tsuna left arm dangled slightly down as his right arm reached forward as his die came back to his hand. It only stayed there for a little time as he threw it on the ground in front of him landing on “1″ and the die began to glow red. A fireball launched towards the snake as Tsuna shouted to his allies,
“We can't let this continue much longer. The beast is as formidable as people suggested.”

Chapter 3: Kalm Before the Storm

There was nothing Raiden or he could do to stop this gigantic creatures attacks on Tsuna, but Raiden seemed to have a plan, knowing that if at least two of them could stay behind the creature and attack they would be able to cause more damage. Cloud held his ground as Raiden unleashed another lightning bolt, causing the creature of convulse for a moment in pain and before it could act it was followed by a wave of flames from Tsuna.
” There's no way we can get away from this thing, we're just going to have to defeat it! ” Cloud shouted across the marsh, the sun glowing overheard. ” Just hang in there! ” Cloud finished as he summoned sparkles of green glow which danced across the air covering Tsuna in a brief aura which would cure his woes for now.
As Cloud watched his cure spell in action he suddenly jerked his head as the serpent whipped it's massive tree trunk of a tail across the swamp in the direction of Raiden, who would hopefully react in time to dodge the attack.

Raiden looked on with a devilish smirk as the creature wildly convulsed in pain, followed by an incinerating wave of flame from one of the others. “That's what we're doing!” he shouted quickly, on the move once more until he was totally opposite of his friends. With a deep breath he focused upon two materia, junctioned together in his katana. As their magic blurred into one, he began to cast a spell upon the entire party by helding his weapon at the ready. Immediately the magic took effect, his mind and body moving significantly faster as they were imbued with an magical haste.

“We should be able to really let loose n–” Raiden tried to cry out to his teammates, only to feel an intense surge of crushing pain as the serpent's tail struck him. As large as the creature was, the colossal blow was so forceful it sent him flying through the air. 'What happened…?' he thought while hurtling through the air. A moment after that he crashed into the ground, and the shock of the impact was enough for him to lose grip on the katana.

'Am I dead?'
he mentally questioned himself, finding his answer in the agony that continued to linger. 'Not dead yet,' Raiden weakly opened his eyes, catching sight of his fallen weapon only a few feet away; desperately he began crawling over towards the mythril katana, wondering how exactly his friends could take such heavy blows and shrug them off like they were nothing. “Fuckin' bastards,” he manged to choke out the words, “I'm just a regular fuckin' guy, you know.”

Tsuna smirked at Raiden's comment as as felt the curative powers of Cloud's magic mend his arm to to point where it could function. The effects of haste washed over Tsuna in an some subtle way. Abrutly, everything around him began to slow down slightly, but his perception remained the same. CM-3 flexed his hand to see how useful it was then set his eyes of the snake.

Tsuna ran at the snake with speed he had never attained, grabbing the die on his way. His left hand gripped the die for a moment, its hard edges a reassuring feeling. With a flick the die left his hand, but Tsuna kept running,
“Your not just a regular guy.” The die came up “2″ and another fireball rushed towards the snake right behind Tsuna. “You're an Ex-Turk.” When his enhanced speed got him to the snake, Tsuna let loose with a slash from his sword across the backside of the snake.

Chapter 3: Kalm Before the Storm

Cloud's mind was racing, it was clear that this battle was not going to end easily, the Zolom was stronger than he had imagined and it's attacks packed one hell of a punch. Feeling the marsh water soaking into his boots and pants he looked down, seeing that he was indeed sinking in the mud. Pulling himself free his eyes raised back to the chaos ahead of him, but things seemed different, as if time itself had slowed slightly, his mind was calmer and he felt as if he could really move.
” I see, haste of course. ” Cloud said as he raised his Mythril Blade and started towards the massive serpent which had just thrown Tsuna towards the ground with a large heave of it's body. ” Tsuna, move! ” Cloud shouted down to his friend as he leaped into the air swinging his blade full force into the Zolom. Cloud twisted his body in the air as the strike hit, pushing his feet off the creatures tree trunk like body, sending himself flying backwards. As the distance grew Cloud released a rain of lightning on the creature, the air around him crackling as he did so.

Raiden reached out for his fallen weapon, a groan of pain escaping his lips as he did, intent upon quickly returning into the fray. “Urgh,” he grunted as he stood up, weapon now in-hand. “easy for you to say, Tsuna.” he murmured in retort, cracking his neck from side-to-side in order to loosen up. “Now then,” he began to move forward, starting slow before breaking into a rapid charge. Upon coming into melee range of the gigantic beast, Raiden began to run paralell to the creature's side–thrusting his weapon into the beast's side with a devilish glint in his eyes.

In an attempt to increase the damage of the attack he took a few steps, trying to increase the side of the wound before violently tearing the weapon free from the beast. 'Not done yet,' he thought coldly, smirking as he took a step away from the creature, extending his left arm out to the target of his previous attack. 'let's see if I can't do some real damage.' Electricity began to emanate from his bangle, crackling loudly for a moment before the built-up energy was unleashed, tearing through the air and arcing directly towards the area he had priorly assaulted. “C'mon, c'mon!” he pleaded, hoping his attack would at least be enough to slow the beast down.
