Chapter I ~ The Call of Destiny

Jonas staggered backwards as the heavy handed attack sent tremors rumbling though the nearby ground. A rational feeling of awe for the power standing in their way finally struck home and Jonas realized that he, as well as the others, could very well die on this day. Time seemed to slow as his mind wrapped around the concepts, but as quickly as his foundation had been shaken he returned to form, his nature was to fight.
” Peter, are you alright? ” Jonas spoke over the sounds of combat, as he rushed to the aide of his ally. ” Move out of range of his attacks, us brutes can handle the melee. ” He continued as he reached his friend, extending a hand to aide in standing and some strategy as he spoke.
With his mind now clear Jonas turned from Peter, facing the colossus once more. Soren and Nadia were holding their ground up close with Demitri dealing massive damage from a safe distance, but the strategy for now seemed clear— removal of the arms at all costs. Jonas pushed forward in a gale of speed. He closed the distance between himself and the foe with extreme quickness, taking to the air at the last moment. Pulling down with all of his strength Jonas cut into the skeletal colossus causing a burst of crackling sound to resonate though the area as the bones cracked from the force of his attack.

  The Call of Destiny
The skeleton's attack sent Peter flying, his senses lost in the impact and spatial movement. After rolling across the ground, Peter gained hold of his surroundings cursing the rabbit greater than ever. His magic powers would have guarded him from that without any trouble. Taking the hand of Jonas thankfully, Peter grabbed his left side and spoke, “When I'm healed we've got to hit it hard. My healing magic will hurt it, I need you to spread it all over him. He's to big for me to hit every part.”

Peter looked around seeing everyone else was unharmed. The curse of the rabbit. He's got to find the foot of that rabbit if it exists, but there was time for that later. Now, he had to heal himself. Stretching out his right arm, a green glow began to form, “Goddess of magic that heals and nurtures, hear my call so I feel blessed.” The green aura spread over his body and healed him. Everytime Peter did magic he smiled on the inside. It was a joke in the beginning with a rival mage who thought his chants made him stronger and that he needed to do it. In fact, it was just a way to help concentrate as well as trick any who thought like the rival. Over time he took pride in his chants, making them sound legitimate to those who didn't know any better

  The Call of Destiny

The roaring sounds of angry villagers swirled through the stone corridors like ghosts with a vengeance. Alone and deserted, fear was overwhelming and defeat had began to settle in. All that lit the way was the white glow from the moon. Running, stumbling, falling. Escape seemed impossible.
Suddenly, Lena let out a scream, sitting upright in the empty forest. It had happened again. Since being chased from her home town, Lena had suffered from incredibly horrific and explicit dream, more like memories, of what had happened that awful night. Spontaneous and sporadic, she never knew when these terrors would hit all. All she did know was that they would send her into a daze like state and usually knocked her unconscious. Now alone, the rest of the group had ran ahead. Did they leave her behind, a weak lamb who would only slow them down? Or perhaps they had not noticed her fit. Either way, she had to get back to them as there was nowhere else to go.
Moving quickly through the forest, following a gratefully placed linear path, Lena continued in the direction they were heading before she had passed out. Soon, she could hear the sounds of battle. Coming out into an opening, Lena could not believe what stood before them. A huge, towering skeleton was blocking access to the bridge.
” I have to help! ” Lena rushed forward, finding comfort in the backline of the group, and reached into her bag. Her crossbow had very little effect on the imps earlier so she would have to try more drastic measures. Finding one of her flammable concoctions, she placed it in her palm and watched as it slowly began to ignote. When ready, she stepped forward and hurled it as hard as she could towards the giant skeleton's legs, hoping to cripple or disable it in some way. The flames burst at the knee, erupting in a fireball that spread across both legs and seemed to cause some damage to the attacker.

  The Call of Destiny
Soren watched intently while the rest of the party engaged the cyclopean skeleton, but didn’t make a move to assist them. For the moment he was more concerned with finding the ideal moment to strike at the gargantuan skeleton. When it lashed out at Peter the attack sent him flying, and Soren found it extremely difficult to resist the urge to rush to his aid. From the looks of things the mage would recover though, which made him breathe a sigh of relief before returning his attentions to the fight.
When the right arm was immobilized Soren finally made his move, dashing forward to close the gap between himself and Zombor. As he was approaching the skeletal amalgamation Soren flicked his left wrist to the side while snapping his fingers. Once more an invisible force suddenly began to pull at the creature, bringing the skeleton low and leaving it exposed to further attack. Soren quickly took hold of his katana with both hands, lifted the weapon overhead, and slashed downward with all his might.
After launching his assault upon the skeleton he took a few steps away before assuming a defensive stance. Soren didn’t intend to retreat to relative safety this time, instead hoping to stay close and distract the colossus from his friends.

Chapter I ~ The Call of Destiny
The Zombor lurched forward still, the successive rounds of attacks—both physical and magical—unable to halt it's steady progress. The creature seemed mindless, a colossal golem simply doing the bidding of it's veiled master. With it's right arm injured the creature momentarily halted, twisting it's skeletal frame in a unnatural way. With a burst of force the grandiose foe flung it's left arm in a low arc, sweeping across one hundred and fifty degrees around it's body. It's conglomerated skeletal arm seemed to stretch under the force extending the range of the attack many meters ahead of the creature. The attack completed the creature once again began to move forward.

Jonas, Peter, and Demitri dodge the attack! Nadia takes 23dmg, Lena takes 23dmg, Soren takes 16dmg.

Chapter I ~ The Call of Destiny

Jonas stood alert, defensive, ready to move at a moments notice. He watched his comrades one after another strike at the colossal foe, each reacting to the situation differently. It dawned on him that, while each of their strategies may be relevant, they would need to work together to defeat such a fearsome enemy.
” We need to combine our strategies and strike with more purpose. ” spoke just as the creature halted. The hairs on his neck stood, his reflexes acting and without hesitation Jonas leaped back just as the creatures arm whipped around in a sweeping arc striking several of his allies. ” It has more range than I had assumed. ” Jonas mumbled bluntly to himself, realizing that he may have underestimated the abilities of this creature, however slow it seemed.
The salty sea air irritated Jonas' throat as he readied himself for another strike, taking a deep breath into his lungs before he acted. He jolted his head back and forth, mentally taking note of the status of his allies, then shot forward again crossing the body of the massive Zombor as he leaped. Jonas soared through the air, time seemed to slow as he brought his blade around in an arch, pulling forcefully. The blade smashed hard into the Zombor's left arm, the tremors jarring. Jonas held the hilt of his blade tight as he landed, rolling to a knee before quickly regaining his footing and coming to a stand near Soren. Jonas gave Soren a gentle nod, suggesting that they attack together.

Peter jumped back, barely dodging the attack of their enemy. Half the team had been hit, but a glance showed that none were too hurt. Peter extended his left hand and a green aura began to glow, “Your right, Jonas. Aura Whirl against the undead.” Peter extended his right hand and another green aura began to glow. Peter's ears stood completely upright as he brought his hands together, “God of Death hear my call. Destroy this monster that disgraces your honored realm.” Peter fused the two green auras together and sent the aura over to Jonas for him to use with a cyclone and hit every part of the Zombor.

Soren couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at how easily the colossus shrugged off their combined efforts, both physical and magical, as if they were nothing more than a minor annoyance. As the giant amalgamation pressed ever forward he prepared himself to engage it once more. Just as he was about to launch another assault the creature came to a sudden stop, pausing for a moment before it started to twist about unnaturally. Then without any further warning it lurched forward, swinging its left arm out to strike at the entire party.
Soren was quick to assume a defensive posture, solidifying his stance and raising his weapon in an attempt to block the incoming attack. A split-second later solid bone crashed against steel, before forcing his weapon aside and colliding with his stomach. As the air was forced from his lungs Soren was carried along with the skeleton’s arm for a moment before he went flying. Soren crashed into the dirt hard, and tumbled for a short distance before finally coming to a stop.
“Is that all you’ve got?” Soren questioned weakly, though he knew nobody would hear it, before he rolled over and made an effort to get back on his feet. There was no way that he would allow himself to stay down while the others were risking their lives. Soren brought his left hand up and wiped away a trail of blood coming out of the corner of his mouth. After that he started forward, rushing toward the beast. As he approached the giant he bent low and retrieved his fallen weapon mid-stride.
By then his friends were already launching another assault, and he had every intention of joining in on the attack. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Jonas nod at him, as if telling him that they should combine their attacks once again. Soren lifted his weapon onto his shoulder as he picked up the pace, and prepared to cast yet another spell to leave the creature vulnerable. Once he was just a few feet away he flicked his left wrist and snapped his fingers once more. In an instant the giant bent forward as a great magical pressure forced it down, leaving it wide open. Soren took hold of his weapon with both hands and slashed at its left arm with all his might, hoping his and Jonas’ combined attack would be enough.

The group acted in turn, doing their best to strike the different parts of the beast from different angles to incapacitate it as quickly as possible. Her flame toss attack had seem to cause some damage but did not really make the beast flinch at all. Suddenly, it swung out its gigantic arm, aiming to attack everybody in its range. Lena took a quick leap back, hoping to dive over the hand, but her timing was off and she was hit hard and sent hurtling through the air. Landing solid on the ground, she rolled uncontrollably until being stopped by a nearby tree. Grimacing in pain, she clutched at her bruised ribs and clambered onto her knees. She had taken quite a beating but was still able to stand. Luckily, her attacks had some decent range so she decided to stay put beside the tree. Reaching into her bag she pulled out another flammable device and stumbled up to her feet. Throwing it as hard as she could she just managed to reach the lower body again, sending an inferno of flames that spread across its legs.

  The Call of Destiny
With her sword unable to do the amount of damage she would have liked to the colossus, Nadia decided to back away from the frontlines in order to calculate her next movements. As she did so, a few more of her new allies poured down the hill behind her, ready to clash with the monstrosity. The skeletal cyclops had also begun to move, slowly lumbering from its original position to—Wait, is it coming for me? The giant stopped before her and the man with the rabbit ears, heaved its gigantic fists upward, and slammed them back down towards her and her ally.

Nadia was able to dodge in time, rolling sideways, though the sheer force of the slam was enough to make her bounce against the not-so-soft ground. The man with the rabbit ears was not so lucky. He took the brunt of one fist and flew backward. The young man in the bandana went to his aid while the others continued to chip away at the boney colossus. After a moment on ground, she got to her feet, more than a little rattled. Alas, she was just in time to see an enormous arm of congregated bone sweeping across the battlefield in her direction.

She braced herself for the impact, but it wasn’t quite enough. The swipe took her off her feet and sent her backward, much as the man with the rabbit ears had a few moments before. Why is this thing picking on me!? This time when she got up, their foe was focused on her allies, giving her a moment of respite. She looked around and saw that the girl with the crossbow had also been hit by the swipe and had landed beside a nearby tree. Though the girl was able to stand, it was obvious that she was in pain.

Help those that can’t help themselves. That’s what a knight’s supposed to do, right? Nadia picked up her sword from where it had fallen and then made her way to the girl’s side. “Are you alright?” Nadia asked when she reached her. “I think I can help.” All the knights of Guardia were required to know basic healing spells in case of emergency. How’d it go again? She closed her eyes and extended a hand towards the girl’s torso. From her fingertips came a glow of green light. Nadia made a loop with her hand and then brought it upward to the girl’s face, the green light following the path.

Chapter I ~ The Call of Destiny
The damage was starting to mount on the animated skeleton, both arms having been disabled through powerful attacks. The bones were cracked and broken, the magical hold on them seemingly slipping as the arm bones started to tumble from the shoulders of the Zombor. It seemed unaware. Lifting a massive leg the colossal creature moved with surprising speed, thrusting it's massive foot downwards onto Soren, stomping him into the ground literally.

Chapter I ~ The Call of Destiny

Jonas was proving to be fearsome in combat, his ability to work with the others increasing the party's ability to deal damage to such a giant foe. He had cut through with Soren, their attacks striking the creature in such a way to literally shake the arms free from the skeleton, falling in a rattling mass of bone. He had moved quickly after realizing the intent of Peter's aura to deal damage to the undead creature, but all the movement was taking it's toll on Jonas as well. He breathed heavily and could only watch as the massive foot lifted and stomped down on Soren, taking him to the ground with a great force.
” Amazing power. ” He muttered aloud, unaware he was doing so. His heart raced, jumping as he pushed himself into action moving to the aide of his friend. ” Here I have a tonic! ” Joans uttered as he moved, pulling a vial from his satchel with his free hand. Nearing Soren he was unaware as he tumbled through the pile of fallen bones, losing his footing. Jonas fell hard, his hand releasing both his blade and the tonic which tumbled though the air before smashing against the legs of the Zombor. The liquid splattered as Jonas reached out to catch himself. He turned to see the creature roar and stumble back for a moment, a gray steam burning the creatures bones where the tonic vial had smashed against the creatures legs.
” How about that. ” He mumbled as he reached thoughtlessly for his blade, find the hilt as he pulled himself back to his feet.

The sign of the monster crippling from the powerful attack was relieving. This monster could be defeated and now it's attacking power was down, or so he thought. The vicious attack against Soren proved otherwise. Peter conjured another aura on his right hand. The skeleton would need to be defeated quickly or he would get tired out. Either way, he had enough power and an ally needed healing, “Goddess of Health, please heal my friend back to health.” Peter sent the Aura over to Soren to help his wounds.

Lena smiled at the woman who had healed her wounds. Amazingly, the pain in her ribs disappeared and she suddenly felt much better in herself. “Thank you.” She nodded at the woman, appreciating her help, and then turned to the skeleton who was still standing but clearly getting weaker. She reached into her bag to pull out another of her flaming devices and threw it at the skeleton, trying to aim a little higher this time. The flames spread across it's torso and up towards it's neck, causing some burning damage.

  The Call of Destiny
When she was finished performing the healing spell, the young woman thanked her. Nadia nodded and got out of the way so the young woman could continue hurling her fiery contraptions at the monster. Nadia ran back to the middle of the battlefield where the others were attempting to assist the man with the katana, who had been stomped to the ground by the monstrosity’s foot. We need to take out the legs next, she thought.

Nadia watched as the young man in the bandana ran with healing tonic in hand to his friend’s aid. A little clumsy, the young man tripped over one of the many piles of bones that scattered the field and, in the process, flung the tonic towards the fiend. Upon contact, the container shattered, dousing the fiend’s leg in the healing fluid. The monster roared in pain as the affected area steamed as if the tonic had been acid. So it’s definitely weak to healing…

Nadia ran towards the monster, getting as close as she dared to the legs that had proven themselves dangerous. How about this then? Nadia recreated her spell pattern, the green energy radiating from her hand to the fiend’s other leg.

The Call of Destiny – Newcomer

Mira came to the festival to see if anyone was hiring a hunter. It was often the best time to get a job. If not that, she could be used to fetch some forgotten item at a house. By this time, enough people in Truce knew enough to trust her, especially the merchants.

She was just south of Leene Square when there was a clamor. People ran away in fear. Mira immediately ran in the direction people ran from. With this sort of fear, she thought someone might be attacking from the north. Her mind went over various scenarios. What would she find? A monster? An army? A wild animal? Then she saw it. A time portal. She stopped short. Could it really be there? Could it be a way home?

A few people were still there, having not run. They did not go near the thing, but they watched with fascination. A few of them were excitedly talking about the people who had already gone in. The last had gone in only a few seconds ago.

Mira wondered why others would go in, but it didn't matter. This might be a way home. Without further hesitation, she ran over and jumped in. She was happy as the time portal seemed to stretch out to greet her. She had gone through this before, and she found this experience to be the same. She seemed to be both flying quickly and not moving at all. People and places moved all around her, but disappeared whenever she looked. Suddenly she dropped to the ground, but she managed to land in a crouched position. The world seemed to spin around her and she looked around.

She took him so many things at once. Evidence that people were here very recently. Was it the group that had also jumped in? The plants were closer to the time she just came from than the time she was born in. In the distance, smoke was in the air. Mira growled softly in disappointment. This was clearly not her time. Well, at least she was not alone this time. The other people had already left though. She needed to find them.

As soon as she no longer felt dizzy, she followed the most obvious path, as it seemed the others have gone that way. Mira spotted the village below quickly. As she hurried towards it, she recognized the buildings. Truce. She quickly ran into the village.

“Who attacked?” Mira asked. “Where?”

“They have ran off now,” a man answered, pointing in the direction of the bridge. He looked at Mira's unusual state of dress. He quickly considered the strange but helpful group of people that had just left. “Are you part of the…” he wanted to be polite. “…group that just came through? I think I saw them following those who attacked us.”

Was that the people she was following? Mira did not know. She wasn't even sure if people really had jumped through the time portal like she had. There were enemies to fight though, so without hesitation, Mira followed in the direction the man pointed.

The Call of Destiny – Newcomer

Brown hair tossed behind her shoulder for the umpteenth time and she grumbled under her breath about needing a new tie. Juna was on hour three of four on her lazy trip from Porre to Truce to do some trading and had packed some well-cleaned skins that could be used as rugs, blankets, even small pillows, in addition to some smoked and cured meats. It was rustic, but people were generally interested in what she had to offer as there was a small fad of “clean” meats going on.
Soon, hours four passed and she was outside Truce. There were the odd screams of laughter as little ones ran and chased each other across the square, parents' shouts as they tried to recall said children. Merchants from all over, some local and some across the water, voiced their wares, trying to gain attention to their goods, both food and protective pieces including armors and weapons. A glint caught her eye and she soon found herself in front of a couple weapons' vendors looking over their wares, Must… resist… purchase… Juna could not resist weighing the pros and cons of replacing her aging weapon and, several minutes later, walked away a couple pelts lighter with a new bronze crossbow on her back. The brunette debated a more traditional one, but simply could not talk herself into it.
Another few minutes later, she was looking for an empty stall near the Queen's bell to set up her display and make some coin when the panic started. It was just a trickle at first, then it quickly devolved from there. It was difficult to understand what was going on and she found herself stuck in place, confused by the growing surge for several minutes, but then found herself moving forward hesitantly. Some people saying something about the events several years ago, a tear in the air, something at the fountain. Is it… again?
Her heart lept and, grey coat rustling, Juna found herself sprinting down the steps, naught but a small bag of skins and a bit of jerky still on her person and her crossbow in gloved hand. Skidding around the fountain, she couldn't help but stare at the sight. “It is…” The crossbowoman was stunned at the rip in space hanging before her, appearing so innocent but from the stories she knew it was anything but that. The pulsing blue called to her and she knew, just knew that this was what she had to do.
A hesitant step forward and suddenly she was sucked in.
Soundless.
Timeless.
Simply… there and not at all.
Then…
“Augh!”
She was dumped, rather unceremoniously onto some rather hard ground. Yep. Awesome first step into an adventure. And… apparently not the first one into this journey either. Her surroundings betrayed obvious signs of recent tumblings and landings. Quickly, Juna checked her glasses and got up, dusting off her person and checking her belongings before taking off in the same directions as the obvious tracks.
Wait, what? The tracks led to Truce, but obviously in a different time and… definitely worse for wear as the village lay smoldering. “How many of you are there?” She quickly turned to the voice, seeing a rather confused man there. “Looking for your friends?” Friends? What..? “They all passed that way, to the bridge, to find who caused the explosion…” An expression of relieved understanding came over her face and she grinned, nodding as she thanked the man for his help before sprinting off again. Friends? The others that came this way? She would have to wait until she got there…

  The Call of Destiny
Lena moved in closer with the rest of the group and stoo beside Nadia. She suggested they go for the legs and it seemed like a good idea. She pulled out another of her flaming contraptions and held it tight in her hand. At some point, she would need to restock on the materials needed to make these flame tosses and make some more. Luckily, they were easy enough to put together and the materials were cheap and commonly found. Pulling her arm back, Lena took aim at the legs and then hurled the flame toss forward, igniting it as it left her hand. The device flew through the air but exploded midway, narrowly missing the skeletons legs entirely. Lena frowned, “That must have been a dodgy one.” She knew better than anybody that not all inventions will work properly, but she was disappointed that she had failed to make such a simple device work effectively.

The colossal creature let out a monstrous roar which sent a trembling vibration through the bridge and the nearby ground. It stumbled, taking a step back, halting it's steady pace. The effect though was short lived and having weathered the accidental attack and another from the woman knight it began to lurch forward once again. As it reached the bridge's edge it stepped off, it's hulking legs carrying it onto the sandy road that would lead to the Cathedral and onward. The creature's single eye swept the field ahead, singling on the one who had damaged it so with the accidental tonic. It lifted it's leg high and with surprising speed brought it down on the bandanna wearing man, stomping him like Soren before, into the ground with the weight of it's gigantic body.

Stomp attack on Jonas deals 47 Damage.

Chapter I ~ The Call of Destiny

Jonas screamed in pain as the weight of Zombor's leg came down upon him, literally crushing him into the sandy ground below. The leg lifted quickly but the pain did not, surging through his body in waves as he lay, motionless for several moments. Around him the sounds of combat and the rhythmic steady stomping of the creatures movements drifted away, his head in a daze. The feeling though passed, and the pain soon subsided. Jonas struggled to sit up, pulling his weathered blade from the sand to his right. He brushed himself of and while exclaiming loudly pulled himself to his feet. The young man looked around, his mind losing focus, he wondered if they would be able to defeat such a foe. He shook the thought, they would have to, and the best way to do such a task would be to hinder it's mobility.
” The legs. ” He said out loud, turning to Lena who was standing nearby, realizing all along that her steady attack on the creatures lower section had been the right strategy. ” We have to render it immobile or else it's just going to keep coming. ” He continued to speak, now looking to Peter.
It was now all clear. He wondered if the stomp attack had cleared his mind, but the thought faded. Jonas, shaking off the pain, pushed forward leaping upwards towards the towering creature which was still all too close. Moving across it's lower body he brought the sum of his force across the creatures legs, the strategy for victory now clear and in sight.
