Quest: Hardy Daytona

| |
The roar of numerous motorcycle engines started to rage across the cold dark night of Midgar's Sector 1 upper plate as Shinra's security forces began to broaden their search for a pair of raven-haired ninjas that had failed to infiltrate the sector's mako reactor. Void and his young Wutai companion, Astra, had taken cover at a three-story apartment building, and now found themselves cornered by their pursuers. Void had taken a moment too long to gather some supplies from the parking lot while Astra waited atop the nearby building. 'Tch… wasted too much time. Now they've got mobile units after us too.' The raven-haired man thought to himself as he crouched behind an old truck to avoid the pair of Shinra security officers that had expanded their search for the two ninjas from the nearby restaurant. He theorized that he and his partner would have to wrap things up here fast if they wanted to avoid being chased by officers on bikes.
Void's azure eyes narrowed and shot back up to the roof in time to see Astra nod to the corner of the building that was opposite of the two security officers who approached his location. He nodded back to her before she ducked and hid herself from sight, then crept toward the edge of the truck that was closest to the apartments. With a quick glance he saw the pair of officers use their lights to check in between various cars on the far side of the lot where they had entered. Without hesitation Void took the opportunity to swiftly dash toward the corner that Astra had pointed out, keeping his posture low as he stealthed around the wall in time to avoid the pair of security officers that vigilantly continued their search. In the distance the roar of two motorcycles resounded once more, close enough to give Void the impression that they were on their way to this location.

Quest: Hardy Daytona

On the back corner of the apartment building that he'd just taken cover behind, Void heard footsteps and saw another light that approached from behind it. In an instant he theorized it had to be another officer that had split up from the others to broaden their search even more. “Tch!” The ninja broke into a full sprint alongside the wall toward the opposite corner where the lone officer was nearly about to appear. As Void neared it he could see the light become closer, then noticed it began to angle around the corner as both individuals came to the edge of the building at the same time. With an acrobatic flip Void launched himself over the startled officer's rifle, and reached out to wrench it from the man's hands with the maneuver's momentum. Both of the security personnel's wrists buckled, his fingers twisted, and the rifle was suddenly yanked away.
“Gah-!” The security officer barely had a chance to call out before Astra dropped onto him from above, knocking the man unconscious as her feet slammed his face into the concrete ground. The two ninjas exchanged a quick and firm nod to each other as they took cover behind the corner that the officer had just come from. Void then quickly disarmed the rifle with experienced expertise, and dropped it behind the wall with them.
Within seconds the other two security officers had muttered something between themselves and hurried over to the source of the commotion, each with their weapons and lights at the ready as they approached the corner where their fallen comrade lay unconscious. “They got him, looks like they must be around here some-”

The communication was cut short as Astra and Void ambushed their prey with coordinated precision. Astra's four-point shuriken raced through the air and quickly covered the gap as the ninjas took the officers by surprise, her skillful aim hitting her mark directly as it connected with the first officer's shooting hand. The man winced and stammered back as the firearm flew from his hand and spun through the air. The second Shinra officer quickly whipped around the corner to see Void in his face, holding the wrist of the officer's trigger hand while he grasped the core of his four-point shuriken and slashed it across the man's forearm in the same motion.
Both security officers staggered back from the sudden ambush, their rifles both clattering to the ground as Astra caught her boomerang with a smirk hidden across her lips by the popped-up neck of her opened coat. The two Shinra peons looked at each other for a second, then back at the ninjas while they quickly drew their tonfas and extended them with a flick of their arms. The distant roar of engines continued as they grew closer, concerning the ninjas and bolstering the resolve of the two officers. Without wasting any more time Void and Astra leapt into action, each engaging a separate officer as the preemptive strike ended and the battle began.

Void immediately followed up on the target he'd disarmed, dashing to the left side of the officer while he slashed at the man's thigh. Barely able to follow the ninja's speed, the officer swung with his tonfa a moment too late, yelling out in pain as Void raked his shuriken across the man's leg. Without missing a step the lithe ninja pivoted around the officer and spun with his arms tucked in, suddenly striking outward with his weapon across the officer's back as he shifted behind the man. The security officer growled in pain and swung his tonfa out to the right as he turned to face Void, briskly slamming it across Void's bicep and forearm as he tried to raise his weapon to protect himself. Unable to completely mitigate the damage, Void grunted in pain as the tonfa collided with his arm. The two were face-to-face once again, and from his position Void could see Astra out of the corner of his eye. She seemed to be in a struggle, taking a few hits from her foe as she engaged him in melee. She managed to land a few quick melee strikes with her shuriken before Void lost focus on her and snapped back to the security officer that was in front of him.

The distant engines grew ever-closer, suddenly recognized by Void as he recalled the powerful roar of Shinra's Hardy-Daytona from various encounters with them during his time in the war. “Let's wrap this up!” His bassy voice cascaded across the battlefield as he hopped back a few feet and crossed his arms in front of his chest to lessen the impact from the officer's tonfa that smacked against him. The raven-haired man winced and jolted forward as soon as his the back of his foot tapped the ground. In an instant he bolted pass the officer, quickly slashing the side of the man as he passed, leapt into and bounced off the corner of the apartment, and finally dove into the officer's back with a single point of his shuriken. The officer let out a final gasp of breath as his body collapsed under Void, who quickly rolled to his feet and lunged into action against the remaining officer who was several paces away.

Astra yelled out in pain as she was struck hard and thrown to the ground. She winced and looked back up to see the officer raise his tonfa for another attack against her, when suddenly a blood-soaked point from Void's shuriken plunged through the front of the man's chest. The security officer spun around as Void pulled his shuriken back out of him, and with a spurt of crimson from his mouth he ferociously swung his tonfa at him. Void had expected to drop his target with the attack, grunting unexpectedly in reaction to the tonfa that whipped across his face. His cheek and jaw immediately swelled with pain as he felt the blunt weapon smash across the right side of his head, inadvertantly causing him to stagger backwards a few steps from the blow.
Having witnessed Void try to save her then take a critical hit himself, Astra quickly grabbed the core of her four-point shuriken, jumped to her feet, and dashed forward with a low one-eighty spin that allowed her to rake two of her shuriken's blades across the back of the man's knees. The pain caused him to yell and drop onto his kneecaps, which was then swiftly followed by a similar one-eighty spin from Void as he slashed outward across the target's throat. Both ninjas were steady and faced away from the officer as he suddenly fell silent and collapsed face-first. The two remained still for a brief moment, then snapped their attention to the pair of motorcycles that roared closer from around the corner of the nearby street. “We're not out of this yet…” Void took a step closer to the parking lot and narrowed his eyes toward the pair of engines that were quickly closing in on them.

“Oh man, more of 'em?” Mildly bruised, Astra let out a heavy sigh and moved within a couple feet from Void's side. The two continued to look toward the street as they both clutched their chests, then began to glow with the green energy from their weapons' materia. Another pair of security officers, this time each on a Hardy-Daytona motorcycle, screeched around the corner and raced toward the pair of ninjas as they both threw their hands toward each other to cast Restore on the other. “This is the last bit of magic I'll be able to do for awhile…” The green and white energy coalesced around them, healing their wounds a moderate amount in the same moment that the officers on bikes pulled their firearms to the ready and took aim at their query.

“Same.” Void responded calmly as he and Astra dashed to the apartment's parking lot at the same time the mounted security officers sped into it. “We could use one of those bikes.” Astra shot Void a look of worried disbelief, then changed her focus back to the officers that quickly approached with their guns at the ready. The closer of the two motorcycle officers shifted his direction and headed right for Void, who continued to run toward the bike despite being on a collision course with it. Adrenaline jolted through his body, and as the officer fired his weapon, Void leapt into the air. Bullets rang through the night sky as his legs extended out in front of him, his arms tucked in tight, and his body flew parallel to the ground, rapidly spinning like a bullet as he cleared the bike's handlebars and slammed his feet into the rider's chest.
A loud yell resounded throughout the area as the officer was thrown from the bike and rolled along the ground. Void then extended his limbs and slid to a stop with a slow spin from the momentum of his acrobatic attack. The bike, no longer with a rider, ghosted toward the side of the parking lot where it slammed into a parked car and fell to the ground, slightly denting both vehicles. Astra gasped loudly with a hint of surprise and astonishment, then looked back to the other remaining rider in time to see him fire his weapon at her. She squeaked and darted to her right, barely dodging most of the bullets as she took cover behind another parked car. The few shots that did hit her ripped through her long black coat, grazing her left arm and shoulder which she instinctively grabbed and covered with her right hand.

Still engaged in combat with the dismounted officer, Void readied his four-point shuriken once again and slung it at the man as he tried to get back on his feet. The boomerang bolted through the sky and struck the officer hard across the helmet with a solid impact that forced his face against the ground and knocked him out before it soared back to Void with a wide arc. Just as he caught the shuriken back in his right hand a stream of bullets pelted his back and left side. “Gah!” Crimson shot out from the wounds as he stumbled forward and turned his head in time to see the other rider ram his Hardy-Daytona straight into him.
“Kyo!” Astra cried out as she watched him get hit by the motorcycle. She dashed out from behind her cover and watched in shock as his body was flung across the parking lot, hit the front upper edge of an old truck's hood, and crashed into its windshield. A roar of pain escaped from him as the youthful girl came to a stop with her eyes wide open. Fear and anger simultaneously shot across her mind as she glanced over to the rider who had nearly lost his balance and came to a full stop with his bike. She hesitantly readied her weapon, but ducked back into cover behind the car as the officer pinned her down with suppressive fire. Several lights came on inside the apartment building, and frightened civilians curious of the ruckus had begun to watch from their windows.

A low groan emanated from Void as he slowly gathered his senses and pulled himself out of the truck's shattered windshield. His heavily wounded body ached as he found himself strewn across the vehicle's hood, grunting in pain at every movement he made to get off the truck and back onto his feet. The other Hardy-Daytona engines weren't far away, their loud echoing ringing through his pounding head as they grew near. It was then that Void noticed Astra, a worried and distressed look etched across her face that he hadn't seen since the war. It had confirmed his suspicions about her. She had become increasingly affectionate toward him since the day they became partners less than a year ago. The emotional epiphany triggered something within him. A long sleeping fire that suddenly burned inside him for the first time in many years.

“Stand down! Drop your weapons and surrender, both of you!” The remaining Shinra security officer shouted from his bike as he pointed his rifle back and forth between the two ninjas. There was a trace of fear in his tone, which was even more evident by the way he slightly trembled his weapon. Void sneered from behind his large fabric collar, and his grip tightened around the core of his four-point shuriken as the officer focused his sights on the grief-stricken Astra. Sparks of cerulean energy shimmered in Void's eyes and jolted across his body as he tapped into the essence that swelled in his chest and rippled throughout his entire being.
“AaaAAH!” Void roared as the energy sparked again and flashed across his body. The security officer instinctively whipped back around to fire at the unrelenting ninja, only to grunt in pain and pause in reaction to a blindingly fast attack against him. The officer's gun arm fell limp as a long trail of energy crackled pass him, quickly dissipating just as fast as it had suddenly appeared. Void was several paces beyond the officer and his bike, having broken his limit to bolt across the width of the parking lot in a single instance, and having delivered a devastating attack to the vehicle's engine and the side of the officer with a single slash. A mechanical spark of electricity popped out of a gash in the engine next to the severed fuel line, and as Void held his stance faced away from the officer, the reaction sparked a brutal explosion under its rider.

Astra yelped in surprise, covering her face and chest with her arms and shuriken to block the shrapnel-like debris that bursted across the parking lot. Void held his pose, with his form leaning away from the plume of fire and his shuriken held out to the right as his hair and clothing billowed fiercely in the explosive shockwave. Startled screams could be heard from inside the apartment building, which were quickly drowned out by the sound of approaching motorcycles as more Shinra reinforcements closed in on the location. “We… we've got to go….” Void struggled to say behind clenched teeth as he tried to hold back his pain while he made his way to the other Hardy-Daytona that was still intact. Astra gulped and nodded, placing her weapon on her back as her partner did the same. It took them only a few seconds to reach the other motorcycle, which was lightly damaged and still operational.
“A-are you alright!?” Astra asked with a heavily troubled tone. The night had taken its toll on the two of them, and they both knew they'd need rest before they engaged any more enemies. Void could see the concern that was clear in her expression, both of them fully aware that they had not enough magic left in them to cast another restorative spell. A spatter of crimson trickled to the ground, caused by his extraneous effort to set the bike upright and face it toward the street. Astra reached out to help, but then stopped herself and averted her gaze as she closed her eyes.

“I– I'll live…” He said weakly as he took a moment to use one of the few potions he'd found in the parking lot before the officers had shown up. The effect helped to soothe his pain only slightly, still leaving him with several major wounds. He wasn't fully sure if he had enough curatives to survive the entire ride back to their safehouse in the Sector 7 slums, especially if any more obstacles got in there way, but it didn't matter to him anymore. All he knew was that he had to get Astra out of this place before more of Shinra's security forces closed in on them and brought harm to her. He struggled, still heavily wounded as he threw his leg over the dented Hardy-Daytona, then winced in pain as he started it in a single motion. Another spark of pain coursed through his battered body as he tried to hold himself and the bike upright. “Get on.” Void turned his head toward Astra in time to see her brush a tear from her eye, and noticed that her scantily clad body had also taken many hits during their lengthy mission to investigate the sector's reactor. She nodded and gently mounted the bike with Void, softly scooting her petite frame up behind him as she tightly wrapped her hands and forearms around his hips. He paused for the briefest of moments as she hid her face against his upper back, taking in how warmly she embraced him. Her long black twintails then whipped through the air as Void accelerated the bike, and together they rode off into the cold dark night.

The “post counts” are not required, if it's easiest for you to post it all as one thing, or easier to break up that's up to you. Doesn't really matter.
