Kili found relief in the fact that he wasn't the only one that was upset about this Shinra personnel being here. The older man with the cane seemed quite angry at just the word 'Shinra' as he paced around the room with his cane. Ignoring the questioning from the two people, Raiden made some off the wall comments that Kili had no idea what they could mean. He spoke of a 'he' that had just escaped and something about Shinra not knowing if this 'he' was alive. Raiden then explained that he basically had no ties as he only worked for the gil. With these words, Kili lowered his dagger, he still didn't trust him but at this point there wasn't much he could do.
Just then, a loud crash could be heard echoing throughout the city. With all do haste, Kili raced towards the window of their room to look out at this disturbance. Shinra soldiers and guards began to pour into the city after knocking down the gate. From the commands of the person in charge, it was clear they were coming for them. He sent a division of troops towards the inn. The lady that had greeted them upon their arrival quickly broke down and gave away their position to the troops.
“Everyone prepare yourselves. With that group downstairs we cannot escape that way. Going through this window will also not be an option as they have plenty of troops outside as well.” Kili explained to everyone around him. Unfortunately, Kili was not very familiar with their current territory and he knew he wouldn't be able to think of an escape plan.
“Are any of you familar with this place? Is there a trap door or some kind of passage we can take out of here?” Kili asked the others. He hoped one of them had the answer, or else they would have to do a lot of fighting to get out of here, something that they would only be hindered by the two people that needed rest.

The sound of the approaching soldiers filled the town seemed to bring dismay to Tsuna's acquaintances, but it only brought joy to the former science experiement. Tsuna clapped his hands together, “Oh joy, puppies to put down.” The man walked over to the window and took look. The soldiers were fanning out but a group was heading to the inn, “The stairs sound like a great way to get out of here.” Tsuna tapped his cane on the ground and threw it in the air in front of him, catching the middle of the cane with his right hand. “Well, shall we?” The man bowed and removed his top hat to the rest of the group then made his way out of the door and to the stairs overlooking the soldier, “Well gentleman.” Tsuna spoke with grace, “Shall we test out your luck?” His left hand moved into his suit jacket and removed a six sided die. With a quick flick of the wrist, the die was sent down the stairs and into the group of the soldiers. A “4″ showed up on the die which began to glow yellow before sending a blast of lightning at the most unfortunate member of the group. With another quick flick of the wrist, the die went flying back to Tsuna's hand. He tapped the cane to the floor then grabbed the top of the cane. The top came off to reveal a sword hidden in the cane and his right hand moved to put the sheath into an oversized belt loop on the back of his pants designed to hold the sheath.

An explosion of sound tore through the night as the troops began the operation. Raiden was back on his feet by the time Avelia came into the room, right hand firmly grasping the ornate pommel of his shamshir. “Speak of the devil,” he scoffed under his breath, seemingly annoyed at this particular turn of events.
“Don't be ridiculous.” Raiden stated icily while calmly heading toward the doorway. Unsurprisingly one of the others reached the staircase before him, happily assaulting the troops without a second thought. Raiden let out a sharp whistle when the spell crackled through the air. “Not bad,” he chuckled, coming to a sudden stop next to the gambler.
“I'm with the Department of Administrative Reserach,” Raiden eagerly announced to unit, unsheathing the Shamshir at last and directing it at the men below.A spark of electricity came to life at the base of the blade, crackling momentarily before a sudden burst of lightning flew from the blade. It began to fork in mid-air, aiming to strike each soldier with a deadly burst of energy. “consider this my resignation.”

Chapter 1: The Escape
The crackling eruption of electricity reverbrated through the walls of the Nibelheim inn before the crepitation could burst outwards filling the town with a sudden chaos. In the fallout of the dually cast spells one of the five troops who had forced their way into the foyer fell to the hardwood floor with a thump. A feeling of calm unease persisted for what seemed like a lifetime as the magnitude of the situation found the shoulders of all left standing. ” Shit! They're packing materia! ” One of the four remaining troops shouted out, breaking the silence. ” Unload on these bastards, none of them are the subjects! ” He continued, issuing orders to the remaining troops to open fire. The relative calm was abruptly ended as the Shinra troops raied their rifles towards the two attackers and unleashed an onslaught of fire in their direction, the aim initially poor, tearing through nearby furniture as it neared Tsuna and Raiden. Upstairs the muffled noises found their way to Cloud who jarred from his deep sleep, his body covered in sweat and his mind ablaze. His eyes scanned the room quickly, he was unsure where he was or how he had arrived there. The young man attempted to pull himself from the bed only to find his body unresponsive, he was in no shape for a fight and found himself unarmed as it was. ” What's going on?! Where am I and who are you people?! ” Cloud asked in a fit of frenzy as the sounds of combat continued to bounce and tumble up the stairway to the room.

Avelia rushed back into the bedroom and opened her satchel, pulling out a small, silver rod that was decorated with a thick, copper ring. Finding the black button with her thumb, she pushed down hard. Suddenly, a large, iron pole flew out from each end, revealing a spear roughly 2 metres long. She slotted in her materia and held the spear in both hands, ready to defend herself. Cloud abruptly sat up, alert and awake. She turned to him, seeing he was still in a bad condition. “Hold still, I'll try and help you.” She cast Cure on him.

Electricity filled the air as Tsuna, the older looking gentleman and Raiden, the ex-Shinra worker burst out into the hallway and initiated the battle. Kili was quite surprised by their use of materia, finding it quite odd that at least four out of the five people that randomly met all could grasp the use of materia. Once the electricity had faded the Shinra guards began to open fire, claiming that known of them were the “subject”.
As the bullets sprayed wildly, Kili knew what he must do to help out his fellow warriors. Quickly, he ran out into the hallway and brought out his dagger. With one sudden movement it began to glow with a bluish tint as the air became cold around it. Using the ice materia slotted in his weapon, Kili created a wall of ice to shield the warriors from the spray of bullets.

Tsuna remained standing as the bullets flew around him or hit the ice shield in front of him. A great big, devilish smile filled his face, “My, it has been too long.” In one fluid motion, Tsuna threw his sword to his left hand, reached up with his right hand to grab his hat, and ran to the side of the shield to jump off the second floor balcony down to the first floor. His body remained flat with his hand outstretched behind him. His body rolled up into a ball as it hit the first floor to roll. Wood cracked below his feet as his legs extended to jump back to his feet.
Immediately, his hat was back on his head and his sword was back in its appropriate hand. Tsuna then began to walk towards the enemies. Well, it looked like he walked, but he hopped between steps which allowed him to cover as much ground as if he was running. Within moments, Tsuna's right arm sprung forward in an attempt to stab the closest soldier in the gut.

When the invading soldiers began to unload their initial aim was pitiful. They savagely destroyed the inn's furniture, but they missed their targets completely. Raiden felt that was a massive mistake on their part; there wouldn't be another clean shot at the warriors now that the rumble was truly underway.
Raiden was content to duck out of sight, or at least he was until Kili arrived, weaving a spell that summoned a frozen wall. “Perfect,” he offered appreciatively, rushing down the wooden staircase and behind the icewall. A macabre smile briefly danced across his face, a small hint at how much the Turk was enjoying playing with fire.
In the blink of an eye Raiden was suddenly darting through the chaos, dashing at the nearest soldier. He had seen one of the others, Tsuna, moving to attack from the opposite side. Gambling on the chance that they wouldn't notice him, he decided to take the risk and press the attack. Raiden advanced upon his target from the side, deftly thrusting his weapon forward toward the man's chest.
A green aura surrounded Cloud, sparkling and entrancing him in it's beauty as it covered his body. As the aura faded and the sparkles fell Cloud once again attempted to move his body from the bed but like before was unable to pull himself up. In the distance the sounds of combat continued to rage onward, the ferocity level seemingly rising with every passing moment. ” I'm to weak to move. ” Cloud spoke, his eyes still scanning the room for anything important that could help him in this situation. His mind was racing, he recognized no one, and he wondered what had happened. His mind lost focus for a moment as he thought back, attempting to remember how he had come to the room and bed in which he lay, but everything was foggy. ” What's going on down there, it sounds like a war!? ” Cloud asked the stranger who was at his bedside as he his mind jumped back, his eyes now fixed on the doorway. ” Captain, we need reinforcements! Over. ” One of the troops frantically spoke into a communication device attatched to his helmet as Tsuna and Raiden charged forward striking two unprepared troops down in a melee. The two remaining troops stepped back towards the door and once again opened fire now at near point blank range. The bullets tore out from the barrels of the troops machine guns with a flare, clipping both targets at several bodily locations. Cloud's head jolted towards the window as a massive explosion rocked the entire town, the rumbling and shaking sending his heart into a frenzied state. A massive fireball flared up outside in the distance, it's gleaming radiance reflecting in all the picture frames. It was clear now, that something bigger was going on.

The Cure spell had not worked as effectively as Avelia had hoped. Cloud would need some kind of medicine or magic stronger than what she was capable of performing. Gunfire and shouting roared through the inn from just outside the bedroom. “I have to help.” She turned to Cloud, “Wait here, you'll be safe inside.” She ran to the door and carefully peered around the corner, looking across the landing. A wall of ice was starting to melt at the top of the stairs. Making a dash for it, Avelia pulled out her poison materia and slotted it perfectly into her spear, before pointing it down the stairs. Purple, oozing liquid began to spread across the wooden steps, leaking down to the ground below, threatening to poison anybody who dared tread there. “That should slow them down at least.“

The wall of ice that Kili had called to defend the others successfully absorbed the bullets and prevented any injuries. Given the safety of themselves, Raiden and Tsuna had moved forward and attacked the Shinra guards head-on. Within seconds, two guards fell to the ground lifeless. However, the rest dropped back towards the door spraying Raiden and Tsuna with their bullets.
Kili knew he had to get down there and help them and prevent them from sustaining anymore damage. As he began to move downstairs with them, Avelia came running out of the room and unleashed a poisonous liquid upon the anyone that was downstairs.
“Guys, move!” Kili yelled towards Raiden and Tsuna. They would need to hurry and move away from the liquid poison as it spread, slowly covering the downstairs area. A great idea popped into Kili's head as he watched the poison move further downstairs. Quickly, he aimed his dagger towards the poison and let off a ball of fire that would hopefully lite the poison on fire and create a poisonous and fiery wall of death that would slowly move towards the remaining Shinra guards.

The blade went straight through Tsuna's target. With a feat of strength, Tsuna pulled the body on his blade in the direction of the remaining enemies as a temporary shield. The bullet flew through the body barrier and into Tsuna body, ruining part of his suit. A grunt of pain escaped his lips as he looked around. A film of poison was slowly making its way across the floor. Tsuna jerk the sword from the body, letting it fall to the ground, and jumped onto a nearby table, “My, is everyone trying to ruin my suit.” The experiment began to pat off his suit, playing with the holes in disgust, he'd have to get it fixed. As he patted, his die was thrown from his hand towards the remaining soldiers, a “1″ appeared. The die began to glow red and from it a fireball materialized and went flying towards one of the remaining soldiers. Tsuna flicked his wrist and the die shot back into his hand between his index and middle finger, “You'll pay for this.” Said Tsuna as he fingered one of the holes in his suit, not even thinking about the bullet that embedded itself in him.

Raiden desperately bolted away from the troopers, making a break for the front desk. A sudden, tearing pain surged violently through his left arm; a lucky shot striking him square in the forearm. “Fuck,” Raiden abruptly cried out, pressing on to take cover despite the flesh wound. Vaulting over the counter without a second thought, Raiden was glad for the respite, even if it would only be brief.
Inhaling deeply the Turk took a moment to treat the wound, clumsily ripping one of the tattered sleeves free from the ruined coat; wrapping it tight around the wound to temporarily staunch the bleeding. “I've been hit, any chance one of you has a healing materia?” Raiden asked the others, deciding that with the barrage of attacks from his comrades it wouldn't be necessary to join in this round of attacks.
Cloud's heart was running wild as he found himself alone with combat raging on the floor below. Unable to fight Cloud felt like a sitting duck, waiting for whoever was attacking those around him to move up the stairs and finish him off. As he gazed out the open doorway into the hall that led to the stairs downward Cloud realized that a large amount of smoke was moving his way, it was clear to him that the Inn was on fire. ” What's going on down there? ” He shouted out as he began to attempt to pull his body up once more. Rolling to his side Cloud fell from the bed with a thump, landing hard on the floor below. Cloud winced in pain as he started to pull himself to the door inch by inch, doing all he could with his unresponsive body. ” Hello? ” He continued to speak, hoping that someone would return for him before the building really went up. Downstairs the situation was still tense, with fire blazing around and black smoke filling the foyer and heading up the stairway. The sound of war surrounded them all, gun fire, the crackling of the fire and the screams of pain. ” The hell with this! ” The last remaining troop shouted out as he kicked the Inn door open and bolted outside where the scene was no better. The mansion inferno had rekindled and was burning hotter than ever. The strong winds had spread the fire through out the nearby buildings, all of Nibelheim would be ablaze soon. Shinra troops ran to and fro some chaotically, while others manned their positions like the town gate. A massive cloud of dark smoke illuminated by fires could be see rising from the omimous peaks that craddled the town, from the massive blast that had shook the town moments before. ” Zack.. where are you? ” Cloud muttered softly.

Seeing the Turk call out for help left Avelia stumbled. She was more than capable of treating his injuries but her distain for the entire department meant she felt less than obliged to help. Ignoring him for now, she slammed her back against the wall as the fire below grew bigger and bigger. A loud thud came from the bedroom and then a silent voice. Dashing back inside, she found Cloud crawling along the floor. She knelt down beside him and managed to help him up to his feet, before noticing the actuality of the situation that had so hastily errupted around them. ”The whole town is on fire!” Cloud seemed unable to support himself freely and everybody else had headed downstairs, fending off the soldiers that had broken inside. The heavy blonde was too much for Avelia to carry outside on her own but it almost seemed their only option now was to escape through the bedroom window. “Just wait here,” She sat Cloud carefully down on the end bed and opened up the window. It was too far to jump and Avelia could not expect Cloud could climb down. Soldiers were fleeing from the burning inn. “Kili? Tsuna? … Raiden? I need some help with Cl– this wounded guy up here!” Avelia began to cough as the smoke entered the bedroom, calling out quickly from the window. “HURRY!“

Kili's plan had worked out successfully. The fire that he had called upon continued to rage throughout the inn, forcing the remaining soldier to flee out the front door. However, they would not have a chance to recuporate as they had to figure out a way to get out of the inn. Going through the front door would only send them right back into Shinra guards. Avelia came running out of the room Cloud was staying inn with panic in her voice. She called out to them, something about the needing help with Cloud.
“Avelia, heal the Turk and bring them up to the room, I'll get the other guy.” Kili stated as he began to run quickly up the steps away from the fire and smoke. When he was in there, he saw Cloud laying down upon the bed. Quickly, Kili examined the room looking for a way out when he noticed that a window led outside. Without hesitation, Kili grabbed a wooden chair and threw it at the window, shards of glass shattering everywhere.
He then moved back towards Cloud and picked him in a fireman's carry, lumping the body over his shoulder. Briskly he moved towards the window and quickly exited out the window onto the roof of the inn. He laid Cloud's body down upon the roof and looked into the inn and waited for the others to come behind him.

Tsuna's own name rang through his head. How long had it been since someone called him by his name? It was always CM-3 this and CM-3 that since the expirements started. How long had it been since those had started? Tsuna really wish he knew what year it was, but no one seemed to want to tell him. The flames raged around him while the former experiment was caught in his thoughts. Only the sound of beams breaking brought him back, “My oh my. May be my time to leave once again.” Tsuna jumped down from the table and began to dance around the flames as he made his way up the stairs and back into the room where Cloud was. Tsuna bowed once again with his hat in his hand as Kili threw the chair through the window, “After you.” Stated Tsuna as he went upright again and followed right after Kili, landing on the roof right beside him, “This may not seem like the right time” Tsuna said as he looked back at Avelia, “But do you happen to have a needle and thread?”
Everything was happening so fast, Cloud's mind still foggy and the confusion of the situation setting in, he was unsure what was happening or would happen next. Watching others enter the room Cloud's vision blurred as the dark smoke began to poor in faster. Before he could comprehend the situation around him the brisk cold brought him back to complete focus. Looking down upon the firey blaze of Nibelheim he finally realized where he was. ” I'm home. How did I get here? ” Cloud asked the tough looking brute who had apparently pulled him through the window of the burning inn. Cloud watched as the Shinra troops all rushed past the mansion down a long path which he remembered from his youth led into the dark peaks of the surrounding mountains. He looked up at the raging inferno that illuminated the distant peaks, remembering youthful adventures he had taken into those same peaks. Turning his head back around quickly towards the town gate Cloud looked down upon a squad of troops who still held it tight, at least twenty of them he thought.” What do they want with us? ” Cloud continued as he gazed upon the squad of Shinra troops below.

Avelia left Kili to take Cloud outside and then turned back to the door leading out of the bedroom. Tsuna had made an unusual request for a needle and thread, to which Avelia shook her head, a little bewildered. She would have to at least pretend to get along with the Turk to avoid risking her own position. Bolting for the stairs, she coughed again as the smoke began to thicken in her lungs. Sliding her hair out of her face, Avelia quickly rushed down the stairs, holding onto the banister as she went. Her poisonous spell had dissipated and was no longer a threat. Looking around, Raiden was nowhere to be seen. ”Where are you!?” Calling out got no reponse. Fire and smoke was all she could see. Coughing again, Avelia knew she was running out of time. Why was she risking her own life to save this man? Thoughts and ideals were clouded by the desperation to escape. Suddenly, she could see a man's black sleeved arm from behind the bar. Sprinting over, she found the still body of Raiden. He was still alive, his chest moving slowly, but was out cold. She looked for the door to freedom and could see a clear path through the flame and debris. Placing both arms under the still man's amrpits, she lifted his upper torso and proceeded to drag his heavy load out of the inn. Finally, she made it out and gathered with the rest of them. “He's in a terrible condition too. Looks like we'll be carrying two of them around with us.” For the sake of it, Avelia cast a Cure spell on Raiden's body and hoped that perhaps he would at least be able to stand.

“They haven't spotted us yet.” Kili mentioned to everyone else has they all sat upon the roof of the Nibelheim Inn. This was the time to gather as much energy as they could and try to see if they could get Cloud and Raiden to walk on there own, as carrying both of them would become a hassle and possibly be the reason that they don't make it out of Nibelheim. Kili sat Cloud up against the window ledge they had just come from and then sat down beside him, eyes gazed upon the front gate, watching their movements and planning their way out.
“Take a quick rest everyone. We're about to have to find a way out of that gate.” Kili sighed.
