“A rest here may not be prudent.” Tsuna looked back inside the window to see the building still quite on fire. CM-3 moved across the roof and bowed low to Miss. Avelia, “Please allow me to take him.” Tsuna knelt down and took the body of the former Turk from the young lady. The man may have been an Ex-Turk, but Tsuna liked it style. He wasn't gonna let him be left behind. Tsuna lined up at the edge of the roof and looked back at his new comrades with a smile, “Well, shall we?” Without even looking forward, Tsuna leapt from the building, bending his knees only slightly as he landed. He immediately went into his odd jumping walk, crossing the street into the cover of other buildings.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

Cloud was dzed by the fiery embers dancing in the darkness, propelled by the gusting mountain wind. The realization that his home was burning to the Earth sunk deep in his stomach and unlocked something from his past, he remembered the Mako reactor that Shinra built outside of town, he remembered going there as a child with Tifa. With a jerk Cloud turned towards the battle that was happening in the mountains, his eyes locked on the inferno that illuminated the distance.
” No, we have to go to the reactor. ” Cloud said with some athority, as if he had come upon some hidden knowledge about what was transpiring at the distant peak. ” We'll never get though that gate, those guards are calm in all of this chaos, their job is to keep anyone.. probably even Shinra's own troops from escaping this inferno. ” He said to the others, his gaze shifting downward to the gate guards, their demeaner still collected. ” We'll take the mountain path to reactor, there is someone I have to meet there. ” Cloud continued to address the others, now waiting for their input.

The blue clad soldier clearly had a better idea of Nibelheim than she did, so decided it best to follow his instruction. Shinra soldiers were gathering at the gates, barely seen through the mass of dust and somke that was now surrounding them. Incredible damage had been dealt to the entire area so getting out alive was going to be a challenge. Avelia wanted to flee. She wanted to just escape. However, she felt connected to the people around her, who had all worked together as a team to keep each other going.
“Can you lead the way?” She looked at Cloud for direction, slipping her now retracted spear into her satchel.

Fire raged behind them from the Inn, the sounds of battle echoed throughout the entire city as various buildings burned and the citizens fought back against the Shinra forces. Kili did not know his way around Nibelheim very well and he appreciated the fact that Cloud had finally come around and gave them some advice. It was quite obvious that he was familair with this territory, perhaps he had even grown up here.

“Whatever you say, I don't know this area that well.” Kili stated, agreeing with Cloud's input. He hoped that Cloud was now able to also move himself along so that they could move a bit faster and hide much easier.

“Do you still need help traveling?” Kili asked him.

Tsuna watched from the other side of the roof his new allies talking while on the roof of a still burning building. Weren't they aware the building could collapse at any moment due to the fire. The still unconscious Raiden rested unmoving across Tsuna's right shoulder. Tsuna looked over at Raiden face which seemed just too close to his, “Don't they remember the fire?” The ex-science experiment jumped walked back across the street and laid flat across the buildings wall. It was slightly warm through his suit, “Hey.” Tsuna whispered, but it was nearly as loud as his talking voice, “I'm sure you ladies and gents are having quite the grand 'ol time up there, but shouldn't we get away from the burning building. Just a theory let me know if you feel its plausible.” Tsuna didn't quite care too much for them, but the other experiment. He wanted to know what they did to him.

Raiden woke up abruptly, startled from slumber by the cacophony reverberating through Nibelheim. He slipped from Tsuna's right shoulder in the process and fell to the ground with a light thud. “Damn it all,” Raiden grumbled bitterly, quickly sitting up and staring at his newfound companions. “thanks for not leavin' me behind.”

Even though he wasn't quite fully aware yet, Raiden knew from their body language that the situation was dire. In short order the Turk was back on both feet, observing the others for a moment while contemplating the situation. “What's the plan?” Raiden asked anxiously. He couldn't shake the feeling that the outcome of this was almost beyond their control.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

Cloud's focus had returned, his eyes jumping from person to person, scanning them all, taking in every detail about them that seemed important. Moving on from his apparent comrades Cloud's eyes jumped back to Nibelheim, the fires growing bigger and hotter. It was time to move, they would have to make it through the chaos past the mansion and into the peaks. Cloud knew that it would be dangerous, the Shinra presence alone would make the trek hard, but there were other dangers in the mountains, especially these mountains.
” I can walk, if I have a shoulder to lean on. ” Cloud replied to the man who had pulled him out of the burning in. ” We need to get moving, this place is going to come down soon. ” He countinued as the inn began to creak and grown under the pressure of the fire, the entire building would begin to collapse soon. ” Quickly, lets get off this roof and head for the mountain path! ” He said with some conviction as he started to pull himself up, his eyes locking with Kili as he did so, hoping that he would lend his shoulder during the trek.

Avelia was already off the roof, looking ahead to where Tsuna had headed. She wanted to follow but was frightened about being out in the open expanse of the centre of town. Looking up, she could see Cloud was doing his best to stand. It was time to move now. To her side, Shinra troops were beginning to head in their direction. Taking a deep breath, she sprinted across the rown towards the mountain path, hearing Cloud mention that direction, and over to where Tsuna was.
“I think they're coming now,” she gasped, fear sinking in. “The guards are getting ready for their next attack too.“

There could be no more waiting around, the time to act was now if Kili wanted to escape Nibelheim and avoid capture or even death. When Cloud stated that he would no longer need to be carried, Kili sighed with relief. Lending a shoulder would be much easier to navigate than if he had to carry the young man.

“My shoulder is free.” Kili calmly told Cloud, wrapping his right arm around Cloud and allowing him to rest upon this shoulder. When they were set to go, Kili began his trek towards the mountain path. They would have to be as quick as they could to avoid the Shinra troops who seemed to be looking for someone else other than them, though they may want to question them still.

Tsuna patted Raiden on the shoulder as soon as he reached his feet, “A pleasure to see you well again.” His right hand made its way to his lower back and removed the cane that was held there. He turned to Avelia and bowed low, “Well, shall we?” His back restraightened itself as he began to move towards the mountain path, only waiting a moment for Avelia to move first if she wanted. Tsuna moved with grace, tapping the ground with his cane with every other step, and walked as if the town wasn't on fire. Though he still kept to the shadow of the building, walking around the edge of the village and speeding up slightly when walking between the buildings. The mountain path was not unknown to him. He had heard scientists mention it before while he was stuck in the mansion, but had not actually been there before. A smile crossed his lips, but this smile brought no joy to any who saw it and was gone almost instantly. Revenge will be extracted on Shinra.

“Glad to hear that,” he remarked offhandedly, now following a few paces behind the gambler. No matter how hard Raiden tried to shake it off, he couldn't free himself from grim curiosity. Shinra was mobilizing troops en masse to a quaint little town that most people hadn't even heard of. It was digging into him far more than he would care to admit, but there was no way he could put it out of mind. What they had been doing here it was nearly the end of him after all; he would never go down without a fight.

Raiden elected to speak up after a brief moment of consideration, if only to do away with the tension that hung in the air. “Probably not the best time,” he paused momentarily, considering the best way to put the thought to words. “but I just thought I should make it clear; I'm in the same boat as the rest of you.” It had to be said, he knew that much, nothing good would come from any doubt the others might have about him. That didn't make it any less awkward, given the current situation. “Not normal policy within my line of work.”

  Chapter 1: The Escape

As Cloud did his best to carry as much of his own weight as he could, he took in the inferno that was his home town. Passing by the places he had played as a child, everything seemed like deja vu, as if he was reliving a moment from his past. The swirling winds bit at the group as the passed the mansion still ablaze, like the entire town now at thier back. With only one way to go, their trek had begun.
” Thank you, I hate to be such a burden. ” Cloud replied to Kili, his teal eyes turning to meet those of his aide as he spoke.
The mountain path was dark and forboding, even with the illumination thrust upon it from the flames reaching higher into the sky behind them. Dark recesses were common, the path taking twists and turns to climb towards the pass that would take them to the reactor.
” Those troops aren't all there is to worry about out here, everyone please be alert. ” Cloud said loud enough for everyone to hear, knowing that while it was likely the would run into more Shinra grunts, it was just as likely they would find something far worse at night in these peaks. As Cloud moved with Kili suddenly the entire area was once again rocked with a massive blast. Cloud's head shot around to Nibelheim, but it had not come from there. Out of the line of sight at the moment, the rector was still in chaos.

Avelia positioned herself somewhat in the centre of the group. She felt safer there, surrounded by people who could clearly handle themselves. Not that she was so incapabale herself. For many years, Avelia had played with her older brothers in their home of Kalm, pretending to be soldiers in battle. Her father, noticing the keen interest in combat, trained all of his children to use different striking weapons. Avelia was adept with long staves, choosing a spear as her preferred weapon. This spear was tucked nicely into her satchel, ready for when she needed. Her abilities and experience with materia also proved she would be a reliable ally in the heat of battle, although preferred to stand back and support from a safe distance.
Suddenly, there was another huge explosion that erupted around them. The mountains seemed to shake from the force. “What was that?” She called, turning around. “Where does this mountain path lead to exactly?

Shadows moved violently across the ground as the flames whipped back-and-forth through the night sky. The path they were taken was going towards what Kili believed was a Mako Reactor, at least according to what Cloud said earlier about needing to go to a reactor. Luckily for them, the path while long and twisting, it contained many dark spots for them to walk in and hopefully avoid any unwelcome visitors.

An explosion rocked the group of misfits as they continued upon the path towards the reactor. Given the location of the blast, it was evident that fighting was going on around their destination, confusing Kili on way they must head that way in the first place.

“Cloud, why are we moving towards the reactor?” Kili asked bluntly. They needed to escape this entire town and get some rest so they could figure out what was going on. Right now they were walking further away from the exit of the city and instead towards a Mako Reactor. A Mako Reactor that had fighting going on, which meant Shinra Guards were most likely going to be waiting for them to arrive.

The wheels began to turn as the ex-Turk gave his little speech of friendship. If Tsuna could convince this ex-Turk to rebel against Shinra, his revenge would be that much sweeter. “Raiden.” Tsuna paused as he looked behind him, “Its Raiden right?” Tsuna shrugged his shoulders as he turned around, “If you were here during the attack and not apart of the attack, they probably mean for you to perish here.” Tsuna paused to let the thought sink in, “Let's not let that happen, okay?” Tsuna looked back and gave him a warm smile as he continued to walk up with the path his his cane as an aid.

“Reactor”. The word explained why experiments had been performed here and why the scientist always talked about the mountain path. Having a reactor down would cause some dismay to the Shinra Electric Company. That was Tsuna's target.

“You misunderstand me,” Raiden remarked coldly, glancing briefly upon his friend as they trekked along the mountain pass. “Revenge is all I'm after. Shinra left me to burn, I intend to repay the favor.” He was smirking in a fashion that felt almost maniacal, he knew that much, but he felt no inclination to hide it; the mere thought of sating this bloodlust was far too overbearing. “I just don't want an ally to knife me in the back, that's all.”

Only a short distance behind them Cloud called out, warning everyone to be wary of potential threats. “We'll be careful, spikey!” Raiden replied indifferently, casually waving away the warning with his left hand; he was already alert for enemies, it didn't matter whether the danger was human  or not. He came to a complete stop when the massive blast in the distance shook the mountains. “Seems the party started without us.”

  Chapter 1: The Escape

The reverberations of the battle taking place at the reactor echoed through the deep canyons and around the dark peaks of the Nibel Mountains. The Ground shook and quaked with every blast, sending loose stones tumbling down all around them, but Cloud remained focused. He would get there in time.
” It leads to a Mako Reactor, Shinra built it here when I was a child. ” Cloud responded to the question, remembering back to those days, before everything had gone sour. ” We have to go there, because he's there. ” Cloud continued to speak.
As the group walked along the dark twisting path another sound shock Cloud, grabbing his attention away from his ultimate goal of making it to the Mako reactor, it was a wolf's howl and the then a scream. Cloud's head jerked around, his body following causing his weight to shift from Kili's shoulder to his own legs. As he fell, his body landing hard like a ragdoll, he watched as a pack of three Nibel Wolves attacked what was surely a Shinra grunt. The thump of Cloud's body landing alerted the wolves to the party's presence, his own teal eyes making contact with the dark eyes of the first wolf.

Avelia was dressed for a typical day at the office, not for wandering around mountain paths and dodging blazing fires. She wore a fitted mauve, sleeveless blouse underneath a white cashmere cardigan that was cropped above the ribs. A black pencil skirt accentuated the curves of her hips, ending at the knee where the rest of the legs were bare. On her feet she wore a simple pair of black ankle boots with a neat silver buckle on the front of each. The satchel over her shoulder was a tanned brown colour that held everything from her make up bag to her materia.
“Who are you expecting to find there then, Cloud?” She replied. Suddenly, there was a loud interruption. Cloud fell to the ground. Avelia instinctively dropped to her knees as if to catch him but, quite obviously, failed to do so. The snarling of wolves began to appear before the beasts that were making these sounds came into view. Avelia's eyes widened as her heart began to race. She definitely was not dressed for battle.

The rocks crushed underneath his feet as the Shinra grunt tried to escape from the pack of wolves. Their paws hit the ground so lightly that you wouldn't know they were there if it wasn't for their loud howling. The grunt had been backed into a corner and he no decision but to stand and fight. Within seconds, his body would be teared and clawed as the wolves tore him to pieces effortlessly. The sudden fall and thump by Cloud alerted this pack to the group that stood still from the vibrations of the Mako Reactor.

Kili had badly wanted to ask who 'he' was that Cloud referred to, but there was no more time. The pack of wolves clearly looked ready to attack and snack on even more bodies. It was obvious to Kili that Cloud would only slow them down in this battle,  unless he could manage to get up and fight under his own will. Therefore, Kili allowed him to just lay there as he pulled out his own dagger fitted with fire and ice materia. His feet pushed the gravel away as he planted them in front of Cloud, as a means to protect him.

It seemed Tsuna wouldn't have to do much to convince Raiden to side with him, he already seemed on the same page. The reactor would seem to most suitable target for the two of them to hit if they wanted to do some damage to Shinra, but they'd still have to finish walking this long path to it. Tsuna hadn't walked in…wait how many years was it now? No one had told him the year.

Tsuna tried to figure out the year on his own, but his thoughts were invaded by the sound of the wolf howling. It seemed three native wolves had decided to gang up on a shinra grunt, good puppies. Tsuna dug his hand into his pocket and picked out his die. He spun it in his hand before throwing it towards the grunt. a “2″ appeared on the die when it landed and a fireball flew from the die towards the shinra grunt. Then with a quick flick of the wrist the die was back in his hand and a smile crossed his face. Oh, Shinra's gonna pay alright.
