A feral howl echoed through the mountain pass, followed by a terrified scream. Raiden turned about in an instant, searching for the direction of the noise–three Nibel Wolves, and the fresh corpse of a former Shinra grunt. “Oh,” he began calmly, approaching the others as he casually drew his shamshir. “looks like we're not the only ones who want to take a bite out of Shinra.”  While it was a crying shame to prey upon anything that might trouble the Shinra troops, they had already set their sights upon the group now; and Raiden couldn't deny the urge to vent some of his own bloodlust.

Raiden half-heartedly pointed the tip of his blade at the pack of wolves, electricity crackling along the flat of the blade. Moments later a burst of lightning surged from the blade, and the deafening sound of thunder boomed through the pass. Raiden didn't hold back, channeling more energy into the spell–causing the attack to fork midway, now aimed to strike each enemy with a deadly burst of lightning if it struck true.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

The roar of lightning and bombastic bang of the fireball exploding filled the twisting turns of the Nibel peaks. Cloud pulled himself up to a sitting position, his eyes watching closely as the others began to attack the wolves who had easily taken down one of the Shinra grunts that had wandered to far from his squad. Cloud knew how dangerous these beasts could be, growing up in Nibelheim he had seen the injuries these wolves could cause.
” Be on guard! These things are aggressive! ” Cloud shouted out to his allies as the Nibel Wolves readied for attack. The wolves dashed forward rushing towards the party, they had been angered and would now fight in a fit of rage. Launching itself forward the pack leader flung it's body into Raiden, the force of the massive beast enough to send the former Turk to the ground. The followers in the pack split behind their alpha wolf, both flinging their own bodies towards Avelia and Tsuna but moments behind the pack leader. ” Watch out! those blows can break bones easy! ” Cloud did his best to warn the others in time, hoping the could dodge the attacks and use the newly found close range to cut at them.
As the melee raged on, the mountain path was rocked again by a blast from the nearby reactor. The quake had shaken the beasts, the party would have a moment to strike, if they were quick.

OOC Talk:
Using the all ability made you the prime target San, note that you cannot use all again this battle and you took some minor physical damage. The others can dodge.

The feral beast that bolted for Avelia had done so in such a primal, instinctive manner that he had neglected to consider the steel weapon in her hands. Gripped between her fingers, she held the spear in front of her, shielding her body and using the length to steer the beast to her side. All of the force from defending her frame forced her to the ground, landing on her back beside Cloud. She quickly got up, readying her weapon, pointing the sharp spear-end towards the wolf and launching a smooth spray of poisonous ooze his way.

Tsuna watched as the grunts fell with almost no effort, a disappointed look on his face. Though there was no time to imagine how much fun he could have had with the grunt due to the wolf charging his way. Tsuna dropped to the ground, putting his left hand out behind him to catch his fall as his right hand whipped off the sheath covering his cane and stabbed upwards as the wolf flew over his body, aiming to pierce it in the stomach. Killing wolves was just not as fun as killing grunts.

Raiden didn't so much as flinch, even as the beast charged at him; a mistake he became aware of when the monstrous wolf flung itself at him. When the animal's body slam made contact he felt the air escape from his lungs, before crashing painfully into the rocky ground some feet away. It wasn't enough to do real damage but the searing pain in his chest would sting for quite some time, not to mention the minor scrapes and bruises from the fall.

“Alright puppy,” Raiden viciously snarled, threateningly pointing his shamshir at the alpha wolf. “I'm going to enjoy making a meal out of you!” With those words the Turk bolted toward his attacker in a frenzy, blade drawn back in preparation for his counter attack. When he was within range of the beast he turned his body to the right in order to extend his reach before swinging the blade up in a deadly crescent arc, hoping to cut the monster open.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

As the melee ensued around him Cloud did his best to stay focused, ingoring the signels of pain rushing through his body, he was in no condition for a fight. The lesser Wolves focued on their prey, each now turning to the strategy of snapping and biting at Avelia and Tsuna. Realizing that he allies would not come out of this battle unharmed if things were to take a turn for the worse he decided that he would have to do something.
” Raiden! jump back! ” Cloud shouted at the former Turk as he summoned a massive spark which he sent arcing towards the largest of the Nibel Wolves. Cloud knew that sending a blot of lightning that close to Raiden was a risk, but he felt confident that between his magic attack and a quick follow up from the Turk they could put the beast down.

The beast that marked Avelia growled with a disturbing kind of anger, sending a blood curdling shiver through her spine. She had noticed Raiden had taken a bad hit from what looked like the pack leader but she could not get round to healing him with the wolf in front of her. Swinging wildly, she hoped to connect with the skull of her enemy, targeting its weakest point with the sharp, spear end of her staff.

Tsuna bounced back to his feet and faced the wolf. The beast snarled at Tsuna as it circled its prey. Tsuna smirked as he stood in a fencing stance, his left hand raised behind and above his head, hand cupping towards his head. His blade pointed straight at his opponent. “While you may be a more worthy opponent than that grunt.” Tsuna spoke as the wolf went in for its attack. With swift moves, Tsuna moved away from his opponent just enough to avoid the attacks. “But you lack form. It's simply disgraceful.” As he finished speaking, Tsuna failed to move far enough away from an attack. The wolf bite onto his calf. The blade shot down the instant pain was felt. “My this body is weak. Must be a side effect of the long sleep.”

Raiden was ecstatic, despite the rage that had set his blood boiling. The wolf wasn't all too different from him, desperately struggling to survive through the trial present before it. That particular train of thought brought an almost maniacal smirk to the Turk's face. Even if the challenge was only a wild animal, the thrill of a real fight had always made him feel more at ease. Just as he was preparing to strike out at the Alpha yet again, a sudden cry from one of his comrades rung through his ears.

Raiden desperately vaulted away from the Alpha Wolf, moving solely on instinct. Out of the corner of his eye the Turk caught sight of the magical bolt of lightning. At that moment Cloud's plan of attack dawned upon him. In an impressive feat of agility the swordsman twisted about on a dime, wildly rushing at the beast. Raiden's eyes were aflame with a burning determination to grab the opportunity before it was lost. With both hands now firmly upon the hilt of his Shamshir he came into reach. Intending to strike a death blow he poured every ounce of his strength into one mighty rising slash.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

Cloud's senses flared as he watched his plan come into fruition, noting the Turks' agility in avoiding the lightning and quickly striking the stunned beast. Cloud's suddenly shook free his gaze wandering to the chaos that was ensuing all around him, his allies putting up strong efforts on each end.
” God damn it! They need me and I can't help! ” Cloud shouted at himself, as he attempted to pull himself up under his own power, his body giving before he could stand sending him plummiting back towards the dirt path with a thud. Cloud's eyes shut tight for a moment as he hit the earth below, his mind almost in a dream like state, his senses dulling for an instant. Opening his eyes as he came back Cloud watched as the alpha wolf fell next to him, their eyes connecting for a brief moment before the life escaped her. ” They're almost beaten. ” He managed to utter, probably lower than his allies could hear. Watching Cloud saw the two lesser wolves take in the sight of what he imagined was their mother fall dead, leaving themselves open to attack.

Having collided with the beast's head, Avelia was able to swing upwards her spear, slicing through its neck and throat. Blood sprayed out, splashing the ground in a streak of crimson, as the wolf fell lifeless with a thud. She quickly turned to Tsuna, who was still battling with his enemy, and cast a cure spell on his wounds. The green aura surrounded his bleeding calf and sealed up the opened flesh almost instantly. “That should keep you going for a little longer. Now kill that thing!” She sighed and collapsed to her knees, breathing heavily both from exhaustion and relief. With two fiends down, she was sure the battle was soon over.

Tsuna and the wolf circled each other, both looking for a sign of weakness to be shown. Both were wounded, the wolf a little more so. A loud thump echoed through out the mountains. Tsuna didn't need to look, it didn't concern him at this very moment. The same couldn't be said for the wolf. The cub looked over to watch it's mother fall to the ground and not get up. The moment distraction was all Tsuna was looking for. He ran forward and stabbed at the cub with vigor. The joy crossed his face. The wolf was simply a foe based on timing. Had either party arrived at the location 10 minutes later, they would have never met. “My, how the world can be cruel.”

Raiden just stood there for a moment, glaring triumphantly at the lifeless remains of the wolf. Breathing deeply the Turk let the tension of the of the encounter fade away. When the bloodlust had faded away, Raiden began walking toward Cloud; too sore from the battle to move with much haste. “I owe you one,” he offered, holding out a hand to his immobile friend. “need a hand?”

  Chapter 1: The Escape

A feeling of releif spread through out Cloud's body as he witnessed the finall two Nibel Wolves fall at the hand of his allies. Scanning the carnage of the battle field for a moment Cloud remembered how much he hated conflict, and knew that it wouldn't be the last of it he would see.
” Yeah I could use a hand, thanks. ” He responded to Raiden's question, outstretching his own hand and taking hold of Raiden's. Allowing Raiden to take most of his waight Cloud pulled himself up. ” I actually think maybe I can walk own my own from here, though I may slow us down some. ” He said to the party as he released Raiden's hand. ” Before we continue maybe we should check out that Shinra grunt, he could have something useful on him. ” Cloud continued, pointing across the battlefield to where they had originally spotted the wolves.

With all of their enemies defeated, it seemed an opportune moment to absorb what had just happened. Avelia's heart was pounding in her chest; a caged bird desperate to escape. She looked at her allies, all of them looking back at one another. Appearing healthy, Avelia decided to conserve her energy for now and withhold from using any more magic. Cloud stood upright, declaring his ableness at walking alone. Beside her, the Shinra grunt lay lifeless, a reminder that her fate could have travelled in a similar path.
“I'll check him.” She knelt down and felt her way through the man's trouser pockets, moving up to his jacket and then across his waistline where several pouches and bags were fastened.

OOC: Not sure if Avelia is going to find anything in particular so I'll leave this open.

Tsuna slammed his sword back into its sheath, turning it back to a cane. “Haste may be best. I'd rather sneak up on them than have them sneak up on us.” Tsuna turned towards the female of the group as he commented. He brushed his clothes quickly, playing with the few holes a little (Oh, how they annoy him),  and made sure his hat was tilted correctly. Tsuna gave Cloud a quick glance before looking down where the trail continues. He should be healed by now, or was Tsuna wrong about him.

“Don't be afraid,” Raiden joked while tearing free a tattered strip of cloth from his coat sleeve. “I'm here to hold your hand after all, Tsuna.” Gently pressing the piece of scrap to the edge of the shamshir, he carefully slid it along the blade's edge; clearing away any traces of blood from the steel. With a soft, almost uncharacteristic smile the Turk sliced through the air with a flourish before sliding the weapon into its sheath. “All joking aside, if there's an ambush along the way it will find us regardless.”

“If we move along at a slower pace we'll have time to recover our stamina–there's no reason to tax ourselves any more than necessary.” Raiden spoke bluntly, though not particularly inclined to any option in particular. If they had more violence in the near future, he'd enjoy it to the fullest extent possible. “Find anything on the grunt?”

  Chapter 1: The Escape

The feeling of fatigue still persisted throughout Cloud's body, a weakness that would test his limits in the moments to come. Teetering for a moment as a gale twisted and turned through the mountain chasms around them, cloud soon gained his footing, his eyes locked on Avelia as she dug through the pockers and gear of the Shinra grunt.
” What did you find, anything that can help us? ” Cloud asked, fighting of a desire to attempt to go see for himself, knowing that every ounce of strength he had would be required to make it to the peak, where the reactor was located. Cloud had remembered that the Nibel wolves, while agressive in nature were also very territorial and had been known to amass treasture. ” Oh wow! ” Cloud exclaimed as he watched Avelia pull out two small glowing colored orbs, one yellow and the other blue, materia.
The orbs would prove useful, Cloud knew this, they would have time to decide who used them as the continued to move up the peak, the reactor was close now. Cloud hoped that he was there.

The grunt had all kinds of loose equipment on his person; a lighter, some keys, a survival knife, but nothing that seemed of any great use… Until Avelia came across two small globes of incredible power. Materia. This was the kind of thing she worked with on a daily basis so knew exactly what she was holding. A smile crossed her face before turning to the group.
“Materia! This could be very useful.” Cloud's reaction made it apparant that he, too, knew what she was handling. In fact, the whole group was using materia. She glanced each one over, the yellow one first and then the blue. “Right, well I have an Elemental ability, which will attach the matched element to your attacks.” She held it out, offering it to one of the men as it would not prove useful to her. “And this one is Cover, enabling the user to defend an ally. Who wants what?” She decided to give them both away as they would be better used by somebody else.

OOC: I think Cover is actually purple but I kept it as yellow just in case.

Raiden's words rang true through Tsuna's head. He turned towards Raiden, “You speak true. I forgot some of us were injured.” Tsuna nodded towards Cloud, not in a negative way just stating a fact. His cane tapped the ground as he moved towards Avelia, “Please allow me to carry cover. Your shall support.” Tsuna looked towards Raiden, “Allow me to defend.” Tsuna tipped his hat and gave the lady a charming smile.
