“I'm not going to be able to persuade you off of it,” Raiden said with a soft chuckle, throwing his arms to the air in mock defeat. “just don't push yourself. We're short on manpower as is.” With the hope that would be enough to make his point the ex-Turk focused his gaze upon the blue orb in Avelia's hand before nodding his head in acceptance. “If you don't have a use for it I'll take it.”

“Materia aside,” Raiden began to speak only to come to an abrupt pause. It didn't seem wise to speak from the tip of his tongue, so he took a brief moment to mull over his words before continuing. “we need some kind of plan for when we reach our destination… wherever that is. Tsuna had a point, if we continue to wing it like this we'll end up the same as that grunt there.”

  Chapter 1: The Escape

With the materia situation settled and short rest so his allies could come down from their combat high Cloud started towards the peak once more, knowing that they were close as the sounds of combat rained and tumbled down from above. His allies were right to be concerned about where they were going, escape by heading into the heart of the battle didn't come off as the most thought out plan, but Cloud was sure of what needed to be done.
” No, we'll be ok, he's there. ” Cloud spoke to the others, taking a moment to stop and wait for them to continue up the path with him. ” Please just trust me. ” He finished. Turning away he started forth once again, his walk slow and characterized by a limp. Ahead of him the wind blew strong, but he could see the old rope bridge that spanned the crevice between them and Mt. Nibel itself. They were almost there.

With only one direction to go, Avelia followed Cloud up the path towards an old rope bridge. The group had not really had the chance to get to know each other, so she thought about asking an open question aimed at whoever felt like responding. “It's funny how we all came to be here and now we're all working together to… just escape alive.” Her words rang true in her mind, sparking a thought that led her to wonder what was going on. The explosion at the mansion; the soldiers back at Nibelheim; Cloud, an injured soldier; Tsuna, a mysterious gentleman; and Raiden, the turk she felt difficult to trust, even though he had helped them all in this tough time. “Where did everybody come from? Why are you here now?”

“Fate.” Tsuna spoke low, giving the word more meaning, as he looked straight ahead, “The mysterious force of seemingly random choices that bring people together.” With each step, Tsuna tapped his cane on the ground in a rhythmic pattern, “Why were all four of us put into a position against our bosses only to rebel and fight against them together?” Tsuna shrugged as if putting off the matter, “The why doesn't matter, what matter is that we are here now and must continue on.” The gambler looked at Avelia with eyes that seemed to show great sadness for only a moment, “I only wish I knew who paved the road.” He shook his head as he forgetting something painful, “But as I said it does not matter. All that matter is what's at that reactor.”

“Mideel,” Raiden stated flatly, as if it didn't matter in the least to him as he followed shortly behind the others. “I'm from Mideel.” A bitter feeling of both regret and loathing came to mind at the thought of his hometown. With grim resignation the former Turk quickly forced such thoughts to the back of his mind, deciding that it would be best to focus on the present; especially given their current situation. “I'm only here due to my orders–though, I'm not sure exactly why I was stationed here. It's best not to ask questions.” Raiden felt it was best to leave it at that, instead devoting his attention to keeping a wary eye for any potential threats.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

The word fate rung loudly in Cloud's mind as he reached the roape bridge. He hadn't giving it much though until that moment, why they had been brought together, what all of this would lead to. Cloud was only acting on instinct, deep inside he knew that he had to get to the reactor, he owed him that much.
” The reactor is just over the ledge on the other side of this rope bridge, everyone be careful. ” The blonde man said as he turned back towards the others for a moment before grabbing the suspension lines that crossed the crevice and held up the walkway.
As Cloud started across the bridge an explosion once again rocked the area, the tremors setting off a deep resounding rumble followed by a burst of fire just ahead of them towering over the peak. Cloud's grib slipped for a moment, sending him sliding to his knees. Cloud lashed out, hooking a suspension line with his arm before he could slide through and off of the narrow rope bridge. Looking back to the others for help he only than noticed what was coming behind them, a massive flying robotic machine accented by saws and drills.
No, not now… ” Cloud muttered, a degree of defeat in his voice.

Avelia remained silent, listening to Tsuna and Raiden answer her question. A little more light shone upon these mysterious characters she was trusting her life with. It was obvious that neither wanted to share too much, at least not now, and were more concerned with reaching the reactor.
As they came to the rope bridge, Avelia felt her mouth go dry. “We have to cross that?” She'd seen sturdier looking bridges in her time. “After you.” Cloud took the first step and slipped almost immediately. Reacting quickly, Avelia stepped onto the first plank to offer her hand. An erruption came suddenly from nowhere, startling her so that she slipped, too. She released an involuntary scream as her footing failed, sending her over the edge of the bridge. A gasp soon followed as she was able to grip the rope-made railing with both hands, hanging helplessly over the drop below.

Tsuna rushed to Avelia's side, dragging her over the rail back onto the bridge. With a quick bow, Tsuna tossed his die towards robot, “With all due respect, milady, but we must make haste. If you'd honor me so, I humble request to help you in this time of need.” Tsuna used his arm to make a handle for his body as his die came up “2″ and a fireball shoot at the robot. With a casual flick, Tsuna was holding his die and racing across the bridge, hopefully helping Avelia along.

“Fuck,” he groused at the abrupt appearance of yet more trouble. Raiden hadn't quite recovered from the various aches from the previous encounter; the mere thought of another difficult battle had him torn between frustration and excitement. “can't ever be something cute and fluffy, can it?” With that little joke the former Turk took a few steps before following just behind Tsuna. Without bothering to ask permission the swordsman hoisted Cloud's right arm over his neck, helping him move along at a more hurried pace.

They didn't have time to take it slow, especially not with an enemy on their tails.
“Sorry buddy, but they'd kill me if I just left you to the wolves–so to speak.” They weren't far behind the other two, but as it was there wasn't any chance he'd be able to attack and carry their crippled party member at the same time…

OOC: I tried to leave it open to give you something to work with as to Cloud's response, John.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

The violent movement from Avelia's tumble startled Cloud, his eyes never moving away from the flying robotic machine coming close with every passing breath. Unable to aide his ally, or himself Cloud was releaved as he watched Tsuna rush to help, with Raiden not far behind. As Cloud hug tight waiting for Raiden he watched the fireball Tsuna fired smash into the machine, seemingly doing nothing to stop it. Clasping onto Raiden as he lent his body for support Cloud did his best to move across the bridge reaching the other side just behind the others.
” That was to close. ” Cloud uttered as he faced Raiden, his eyes gazing into those of the form Turk, a feeling of respect and thanks passing between them. The next few seconds seemed to last a lifetime as Cloud watched the airborn menace close in on the bridge they had just crossed, his eyes shifting for a moment to the two Shinra grunts that followed it.
” Look, there they are! They have nowhere to go but the reactor, let's get them! ” The first grunt shouted to his ally, both of them unaffected by the fireball that has hit the air tank and barely harmed it.
Cloud watched as the grunts began to cross the rope bridge ahead of the flying machine. Looking around him it was clear that they would be better set to stand and fight, than risk even more exposure.

Her hands began to burn as she felt her grip loosening. “No…” A silent whisper escaped her lips as she realised this was her end…. And then it happened; her fingers let go and her body released all feeling. Falling, falling, falling… Wait, it didn't feel like falling. Suddenly, her sense of feel came rushing back and she felt a tight grip around her wrist. Opening her eyes, she saw Tsuna, saving her life. He pulled her up onto the bridge and she managed a meek thank you before he hooked his arm around her and they shuffled quickly along the bridge.
As the menacing machine drew closer, Avelia could see Cloud and Raiden rushing towards them. She pulled out her spear and used her Sense materia to scan the oncoming android. Pulling out a small, digital screen from her bag, she analysed the data that was coming through from the mateira.

OOC: Not sure what the enemy is.

Tsuna turned only after getting onto hard land with Avelia. There position wasn't much better, but at least they had land to their back. The flying machine was the main threat, but those grunts did look like they needed to die. He turned towards the party, “Figure out a way to take down that thing,” And pointed his cane at the flying machine. The sound of cracking bone echoed throughout the mountain as Tsuna rotated his neck one way, then the other. “Leave the grunts to me.” Tsuna smiled with a devilish grim and a nasty gleam in his eyes.

The distance between Tsuna and the grunts seemed to dissolve as the former experiment dash back onto the rope bridge and raced straight towards the grunts. At some point, he had taken off the cane sheath and stashed it on his back. When? He wasn't sure, it was all one flowing motion. Tsuna only saw grunts he could take his anger out on. They wouldn't stave his hunger for long, but a temporary fix will do. With a quick forward thrust, Tsuna attempted to stab the first grunt with his sword.

“Oh sure,” Raiden agreed to the plan, though the mocking tone of his response should've made his annoyance rather obvious. “always takin' all the fun and easy jobs for yourself. I'd like to relax a bit too.” They hadn't quite crossed the bridge just yet, but the former Turk was well aware that they might not even make it across if someone didn't provide cover against their airborne nemesis. After stopping rather abruptly he carefully removed Cloud's arm from over his shoulder.

“Get moving,” Raiden ordered calmly as he slowly drew his weapon from its sheathe with a grim demeanor. “once you're across I'd appreciate some long distance support though.” At that the man shifted his posture to provide a bit more stability on the rickety bridge. If he fell there'd be more to worry about than an enemy in the sky. “C'mon you giant bucket of bolts. Let's play a bit of a game!” Raiden shouted out into the wind, though he knew the taunt was most likely lost upon the mechanical monstrosity.

Raiden had brought the shamshir to level, directing the tip of the blade at the Shinra machine. At long range there was only one attack option available to him, and he had no qualms against making use of it. “Bolt!” Raiden barked out, and at his command the materia socketed to the weapon crackled to life. It burst forth from the blade in a violent crackle of electricity, flying to its intended target as the boom of thunder followed in its wake.

OOC: That turned out much longer than I'd intended.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

A chill rushed down Cloud's back as he was rushed across the rope bridge to saftey, at least for the moment. Watching the others, Cloud could only feel like baggage, but he knew that they would find a way out of this situation, they had to. In the distance the gigantic flying menace, it's body seemingly armored with riveted together steel plates, was angular and ridgid. The machine managed to lift it's weight off the ground via several helicopter like blade systems which spun fiercely and whipped dust and debris up around it as the machine moved. Several robotic appendages sprunge forth from the monster, circling it with arms featuring saws, lasers, and other torture devices. It was clear that this would be their toughest test.
” Be careful at such close range! That thing looks deadly! ” Cloud shouted out to his allies as they headed back into melee range leaving him and Avelia behind. ” You should go with them, you're a healer and they're going to need you, I'll cast spells from here to support you! ” Cloud said to the woman at his side, then turning focus from her back to the others.
Watching, Cloud was amazed at Tsuna's quickness in attacking one of the two Shinra grunts who had accompanied the flying monstrosity, his blade striking the grunt with ease. The grunt was hurt but would return with a savage strike from his own blade. Ahead of this small battle Raiden had reached the flying menace and zapped it with a bolt attack, sending a plume of smoke bellowing out of the machine, it seemed to have had a strong effect.
” It's weak to lightning! ” Cloud shouted as he reached out his arms, the eerie glow of materia illumating a circle around his bangle as he let loose a ripping bolt of his own which tore through the air with a crackle and struck the machine. Go while it's stunned! ” Cloud shoted to Avelia over the chaos of combat.

Avelia's data pad fuzzled and beeped before shutting off completely. Angrily, she began to slam the side with her palm, but to no avail. “Dammit!” Screaming, she shoved the device back into her bag and turned to Cloud, who was urging her to back the other two up. Her spear would only reach so far and her offensive magic was almost non-existant. Surely poison would not work on a robot?
Still, the soldiers were only adding more trouble, so they had to be dealt with first. Tightening her grip around her spear, Avelia took a deep breath before running onto the bridge after the other two. The space was tight but she could easily poison them from where she was.

OOC: I guess Sense didn't work.

Tsuna saw nothing except two poor souls who happened to find their way into his path. This was probably just to a job to them, but everything Shinra must be destroyed. His blood frenzy made him ignorant to his allies and the flying machine around him. He wasn't even aware of the noise or the wind. Tsuna chuckled as the grunt attack and slashed the right side of his chest, “Let me show you how thats done properly.” His sword rose and slashed towards the grunt's neck.

Raiden didn't feel it would be wise to exhaust his energy upon the enemy before them, but he knew that at this distance he didn't have a choice in the matter. Here we go again,” he muttered as power began to channel into the shamshir yet again. Electricity began sparking to life at the base of the blade as he began to focus the materia's power into an attack. Just like his previous attack, the charge rushed down the length of the blade as he pointed the weapon at the enemy machine. “Bolt!” Yet again he sent the deadly burst of lightning towards their mechanical nemesis, hoping this attack would be enough.

  Chapter 1: The Escape

Watching closely as Avelia headed off towards the bridge, Cloud finally came to grips with the situation he had awoke to, and sadly put these people in. If not for him, he knew, they would not have been targeted this way and because of this he would have to do everything in his power to keep them alive.
” Alright Cloud, let's just keep pounding this thing as long as possible with bolt, that seems to be doing the trick so far ” Cloud said to himself as he watched the others.
Across the rickety bridge the situation was more dire. Cloud's eyes scanned the battlefield, first landing on Tsuna and the first ShinRa grunt, who at this point seemed nearly defeated but strong enough to send another sword swap tsuna's way, this on connecting easily. His teal eyes continued to move, landing on that of the second grunt now, who lunged forward towards Raiden attempting to stab at his thighs. As this ocurred Avelia had reached nearby enough to unleash a wave of poison on the grunts when sent the first to the ground, KO'd and clearly affected the second.
” Doesn't look like that did any good against that machine though. ” Cloud said to himself just as Raiden unleashed a thunderbolt at the massive robotic menace once again, sending another plume of smoke and sparks upward. ” Shit it's going to strike back! ” Cloud shouted to the others as the machine began to spin itself around releasing a wave of lasers in a three hundred and sixty degree attack that would be hard to avoid at that range.

OOC Talk:
Your sense did work, I just did it in a way to describe the machine and let you know it's weak to lightning. It is also immune to poison, but not physical attacks it can be damaged this way. Also it is possible for Avelia to avoid the lasers, San and Griff not so much.

Everything was happening so fast. The efforts of all of her companions was enough to best the first soldier, and she was sure her posion had affected the second. Tsuna was wounded but at least they now knew that the machine was weak to lightning and were lucky enough to have people who were able to cast bolt.
Avelia knew now that she would be of little help. Poison would not affect such a mechanical being. She would have to stand back and heal as best she could. Her first restore spell was aimed at patching up the wound that Tsuna had suffered to his chest.

__________

OOC: Sorry, I didn't realise. I was thinking of a way to make Sense work as I'm not sure how it would work in the context of a written RP. I thought maybe she would have a device that could read enemy data, linked to her materia. Also, perhaps it is best that I post last from now on so that some damage can be dealt in time for Avelia to heal? :)
