Chapter VI: Belly of the Whale

“It was dangerous to come to Junon in the first place,” Leveche said matter-of-factly as they closed in upon the elevator. “If you two are recognized things may get a little complicated, that’s true, but so long as they haven’t found out I helped with Cid’s escape we’ll be fine.” Leveche explained as he stepped inside the elevator, moving to the side and waiting for the others to enter. It had occurred to him that everything might not go according to plan, but worrying about it wasn’t going to make it any better.

The thought of being imprisoned raced through his mind as they approached. He remembered being furious and needing to control it, even when it was false. This time he had to stop himself from smiling. He knew he was in control because ShinR wasn't. His new weapon would most likely go unnoticed due to the sword. He wanted to get it back, but waited patiently for that. “If it is our only plan, they we shall make ti work.” Tsuna smiled at the to, but with confidence not malice. Slumping his shoulders and looking down, he played the part of a prisoner once again.

Chapter VI: Belly of the Whale

Their recent siege of Midgar, through the pillar that lead upwards to Shinra Headquarters, flashed through Cloud's mind as he stepped inside of the elevator. The doors closed swiftly, the metallic walls reflecting the bright colored lights like a rainbow of refraction. Cloud could feel the sensation of G's tugging his body as the lift began to rise. He sighed, he had rode this elevator before, years ago. He thought it was odd how selective his memory of the past was, grasping onto seemingly inconsequential details with great lucidity while great chunks of memories seemed permanently concealed.
” Regardless of how long our charade lasts, my gut tells me we're going to be fighting our way back out. ” Cloud broke the silence, his intuition telling him that there was no sneaking in and out of Junon.
Cloud watched the yellow dial that illuminated their accent. He could feel the slowing of the platform in his gut. He waited for the doors to open and reveal Junon in all of it's monolithic glory.

Chapter VI: Belly of the Whale
“I doubt we could avoid that, no matter how we manage to sneak in.” Leveche awkwardly replied with a half-smile, though he quickly realized saying such wouldn’t serve to ease the tension, and immediately came to regret opening his mouth. Silence settled in upon them once again, the only sound remaining a rhythmic hum as the elevator carried them to their destination. When the elevator at last came to a stop, the doors sliding open a few moments later, revealing a concrete tunnel carved into the recesses of the cliff side. Sunlight streaked into the tunnel through small rectangular gaps on the side, casting sun shafts that served to illuminate the darkness.
Leveche didn’t bother to check to see if the others were behind him as he started to move, but rather announced that they should follow him with a terse monotone. “Follow me.” It might seem strange to the others, but he knew if this ruse was to work he couldn’t act like himself. If this was to work he had to behave like a dutiful SOLDIER, not the renegade that he had become.

Standing in the elevator, Tsuna felt an odd peace. Now captured again, even though fake, and in close quarters about to make the fake real he felt no need to bust out. He felt in control, a control that was foreign to him. He smiled brielfy then relieved what the plan was. He couldn't look happy, but dismayed with a hint of anger. His shoulder slumped and his jaw tightened. This was an emotion he was use to so playing the part was real.

Tsuna walked slowly out of the elevator behind Leveche,
“You just made the top of my list when I get out of here.” Yelling and snarling at Leveche's comment. To those hear it would be an empty threat, to Leveche it could be seen as just the role. These soldiers probably heard far worse from prisoners and would take it as another day.

Cloud had no trouble playing the part, his body language had consistently shown fatigue and suggested little fight in him for weeks, whether that was true or not. As he stepped from the elevator the diagonal beams of sunlight and shadow crossed him in a wave of warmth and cold. His eyes couldn't adjust until the departed the shadow for good, reaching the end of the concrete tunnel. The street outside was modestly populated, though none seemed to notice. To Cloud's left the sparkling blue reflecting of the distant waves below caught Cloud's eyes. He wondered how they would get down there. To his right the monolithic stone buildings built into the side of the terraced cliff face flew their Red Shinra banners. It was business as usual.
” Lets get this over with. ” Cloud bemoaned as he followed Leveche into the wide open.

When the gentleman let out a sudden shout it nearly made him flinch on reflex, he hadn’t expected it to say the very least, but he managed to restrain himself from doing so. As they continued along their path emerged from the darkened passage onto an open street, open air with an ocean view on one side, and monolithic stone buildings built into the cliff side on the other. A modest number of people went about their daily business on the street, seemingly paying the small caravan no mind. Even if they truly were being completely ignored they couldn’t drop the charade, for there was no telling when someone unexpected might catch sight of them and recognize any one of them. “Complain all you like, but that won’t help anything.” Leveche flatly declared to the both of them as they continued down the street.

Tsuna allowed the look of hopelessness set in after the threat. He assumed the feeling of it being empty would set in. His shoulders slumped and he dragged his feet. His fangs were still showing though. A sign of still some hope to escape or frustration at himself? Tsuna didn't know that was up to the viewer. After a few more moment of walking, some comment seemed needed, “Will you just get me there already? Got an escape plan to work out.” His shoulders raised slightly and his feet no longer dragged. It was not a threat, but a simple comment. Something to hold onto and keep a prisoner going.

Chapter VI: Belly of the Whale

Cloud followed closely behind Leveche. His eyes shifted from the buildings on his right, their red Shinra banners a statement to the power the company held over this place, to the tossing ocean waves over the towering cliff side on his left. They passed men and women in suits, paying them no attention as the neared an identical tunnel in on the far side of the one they had exited just moments before. Cloud knew the tunnels cut through the cliff face behind the monolithic buildings, ramping up to the higher levels for vehicle travel, eventually ending at the airstrip which rested atop the plateau which Junon had been build into.
” We're likely to encounter security which we reach the next elevator. ” Clound mentioned in a low voice, remembering that it unlike the one they had departed before only went down, though at the time he was unaware to where exactly it went. ” I hope you can bluff your way through it. ” Cloud finished speaking as the shadows crept towards them, the curving tunnel just a few meters ahead.
Cloud could see the elevator in question along the inside right wall of the tunnel. Next to it, two Shinra personal stood, armed though seemingly unaware of the three approaching. Cloud lowered his head, not making eye contact with the guards, hoping that Levy could get them through the checkpoint without their cover being blown.

Chapter VI: Belly of the Whale

Leveche was keenly aware of the fact that they would encounter security at the elevator to the Underwater Reactor, even without Cloud’s quiet reminder. Cloud didn’t seem very confident in the ex-SOLDIER’s ability to bluff their way past security, but Levy didn’t pay it more than a passing thought. If he hadn’t felt confident in his ability to do so he wouldn’t have suggested this course of action. They couldn’t turn back at this point even if they had wanted to, at least not without arousing a great deal of suspicion. Once they entered the shadowy passage Leveche fixated his gaze upon their final destination, and assumed an air of superiority befitting a SOLDIER 1st Class.
“SOLDIER 1st Class, Leveche Gregale.” Leveche brazenly declared himself as they approached a pair of SOLDIER 3rd Class, who were seemingly unaware of their approach. Levy maintained a steady pace as they neared the pair, only coming to a halt when he was a few feet in front of the pair, standing there with a stern expression that made it clear he expected them to stand aside so the group could enter the elevator. When they didn’t move he tapped his foot impatiently and spoke up in a commanding tone. ”If you two can’t tell I’ve a pair of fugitives in my custody and if they escape because you two louts refused a direct order from a superior….” Leveche trailed off, leaving the idea of what the repercussions may be to their imaginations.

Walking behind Leveche, Tsuna took a spot to his side and stood staring at the guard directly opposite him. Unlike before, any actions he took would have to take down this new guard instead of Leveche. His mouth formed into a smirk, his fangs bare, “Good to see ya again. Hope it's not the last time. I'd hate to not get another chance at freedom.” Tsuna locked onto the guards eyes and never stopped staring. Hoping he would help Leveche pull off the part.

Chapter VI: Belly of the Whale

Cloud was alert, his eyes assessing the area as they neared the elevator doors and the two guards which stood nearby. He trusted Leveche to get them past some 3rd class SOLDIER but he knew that if things went sour that would be the least of their worries and he meant to be ready for it. Consequently Cloud found himself quite impressed with Leveche's command and tone as he addressed the SOLDIER guards.
” SOLDIER 1st Gregale! Sorry sir! ” The SOLDIER 3rd on the left of the door spoke up as he straightened his spine to address a superior officer, his comrade quickly following suite but remaining quiet. Feeling it would be wise to leave it at that the SOLDIER's simply stepped back as one activated the elevator doors allowing Leveche, Cloud and Tsuna to pass.
The doors closed with a familiar his of air, timed with Cloud's own exhail as he relaxed his body in the safety of the elevator. The unsettling drop as the movement started made Cloud feel weightless for a moment as they started their decent down to the sea floor.
” I imagine this is a long ride? ” Cloud broke the silence as there were no dials or indicators in the steel plated box to let them know how far they had descended, hoping that Levy knew. ” What should we expe— ” He started to ask before being cut off by the sudden stop of the elevator.
The doors opened smoothly, the his of air echoing through the large chamber they would step out into. Cloud looked around in amazement, the curved half cylinder of a corridor transparent, holding the ocean waters above at bay. They rested on the ocean floor, a curving path like a aquarium exhibit leading them towards a series of double doors in the distance, the structure of which could be seen through the clear passageway as massive.

“At ease.” Leveche sternly declared following their salute, and then merely stood idle as he waited for them to open the elevator doors. Once the doors came open Leveche wordlessly stepped inside, followed shortly thereafter by his companions. After the doors were shut and their descent underway the others seemed to relax a fair bit, with Cloud even asking how long the ride might take—to which Leveche offered no answer save shaking his head from side-to-side. Only a few moments after Cloud started to ask another question, only for the question to be cut short as the elevator doors came open with a hiss of air.
Outisde of the elevator they could see an expansive, transparent half-cylinder that was surrounded by the open ocean on all sides. Leveche had found it a challenge to maintain his composure here; there would be nothing to save them should the integrity of the half-cylinder be damaged. “I don’t like things that I can’t fight off.” Levy muttered uneasily before starting out of the elevator and down the lone passage ahead of them. “ “What are you two waiting for? Let’s get a move on.”

As the two SOLDIERS quaked in from of Levenche, times of the past hit him. Times of being in captivity as the lowly guards quaked to their superior. Tsuna began to laugh as if struck by insanity. The laughter stopped as stared intensely as the same guard as before, “What good dogs we have here.” Walking behind Leveche with his back bent he smiled, “Be seeing you at the next escape….hopefully.” Tsuna wasn't sure what had come over him, but it felt like it was there the whole time. Bubbling in side from his time being researched. Once in the elevator he seemed to vanish as if lifted from him.

Cracking his neck, Tsuna looked around. The elevator went such a shrot distance that it didn't seemed to be needed, until the ocean was shown surrounding the path way. Obviously a way to stop escaped by simply flooding it,
“We should probably figure out a better way out than this.” Seeing Leveche's unease about the situation he saw the danger.

Chapter VI: Belly of the Whale

Cloud gaved through the transparent corridor, peering out into the depths of the ocean. Light refracted down from above, revealing a world of colors that he was unaware even existed. For a moment he forgot where he was, lost in the wonder that was around him. The swift movement of a school of fish pulled his attention before both Leveche and Tsuna's voices broke the silence.
” Seems there are only two ways out of this corridor, forwards and backwards. ” Cloud replied, already taking a step forward towards the pair of doors set into a shimmering steel wall at the end of the corridor. ” We can't exactly head back now. ” He finished speaking, following Leveche towards the closed doorway..
Cloud kept his composure as Leveche opened the doors slowly revealing a less impressive passage way that opened into the lobby of the upper floors of Shinra's research complex. There was little activity the small entry barren besides a sofa, ebony table and a slew of vending machines. One open passage led into a well lit hall leading inside, voices could be heard in the distance, dancing through the chambers.

Chapter VI: Belly of the Whale

Leveche did his best to shake off his discomfort and pressed forward, with the other two at his heels. Just ahead of them was a pair of doors, set into a wall of solid steel, which would lead them into the next chamber. “You’re right about that,” Leveche declared as they neared the doors. Without pausing he opened the doors and went through. For the most part the room was barren, with only a sofa, an ebony table, and several vending machines decorating the room.
There was no sign of anyone in the room save the party, but he could hear muffled voices coming from a well-lit hallway. “Might as well,” Leveche said with a deep sigh as he started toward the open passage. They were here for information, after all, and the best way to get that was directly from the source.

Cocking an eye brow a Cloud, Tsuna let the comment past. This ocean corridor was most likely set with explosive and was the reason of it being here, but he was right. They had to go forward. As the neared the end of he corridor, Tsuna fell silent, back to that of a prisoner. He wasn't sure, but this didn't seem like the best time to fight, even if his gloves called out to him. The first room in was empty, jeez it was easy to break in here, thought Tsuna to himself, just got to get through those two bozos. ShinRa apparently needed to learn how to even out their iron grip.

The corridor was long and enclosed completely, reminiscent of the corridors of Shinra HQ the walls clad in a polished steel which refracted the overhead lighting giving the passageway a luminous feel. Ahead the hallway bent in an L to the left. The shadows of movement from the corridor beyodg reflected against the steel walls, Cloud slowed his pace. He looked to the others, trusting that Leveche could handle those beyond, but knowing that their charade could not last much longer, eventually they were going to have to abandon the coy act and go on the offensive if they planned to make it all the way to the research areas.
” If they don't buy your bluff don't hesitate, we can risk them calling for backup. ” Cloud said very lowly, turning his attention to Tsuna and making eye contact as he did, knowing that he would love to wreak some havoc on Shinra personal. ” Sounds like two or three of them. ” He added on as the listed to the muffled voices in the distance trying to ascertain the exact number of people just out of sight.

Leveche lead the party down the long corridor, which gave him a vague sensation of déjà vu. Polished steel walls reflected the lighting overhead, giving the hall an almost luminous glow. Just down the path the corridor took a sharp turn to the left; shadows could be seen flicking on the steel walls, almost as if warning them they were about to run into other people. “I’d rather they didn’t,” Leveche whispered in reply as they continued onward. “but if it comes down to it just try to stop them from activating the alarm.”

Shooting Cloud a quick grin, Tsuna looked forward, “They won't be reaching any alarm.” He was tempted to not even let the bluff be tried and attack, his right hand acting like he held his cane. Shaking his hand and the thought, he went back to the act of a prisoner. He really wish this would be over so he could kill these ShinRa employees.
